1 HEPHY's Application for ISOTDAQ 2018 in Vienna Where: Vienna University of Technology, Faculty of Electronical Engineering and Information Technology When: Wed 14 February Wed 22 February 2018 Why: Who: According to the 2016 Mercer Survey, Vienna ranks highest for quality of living in a worldwide city ranking. Vienna is well known for its rich historic past and its diverse cultural offerings. The Faculty of Electronical Engineering and Information Technology is very close to the historic city centre and easy to reach by public transport. Four seminar rooms for the exercises are on the same floor. For the coffee break, lunch and welcome reception we have the Kontaktraum at the 6 th floor.

Accommodation: We have pre-booked double rooms/single use for the tutors and speakers and double rooms for the students at the Kolpinghaus Wien-Zentral, Gumpendorfer Straße 39, 1060 Vienna. The rooms are equipped with bathroom with shower and toilet, satellite TV, a safety deposit box and free WiFi. Nearest underground station is U4 Kettenbrückengasse. Walking distance to the venue is about 15 minutes (1.2 km).

4 Arrival: The Vienna International Airport (VIE) in Wien-Schwechat is located about 20 km south-east of Vienna and allows easy access, including direct flights from/to Geneva (by Austrian Airlines and easyjet). The City Airport Train (CAT) to terminal station Wien-Mitte/Landstraße takes 16 minutes with departures from the airport every 30 minutes (single ticket 11 Euros). Then take the underground U4 to Karlsplatz to the workshop venue or rather to Kettenbrückengasse to the hotel. (extra ticket required, 2.20 Euros). The Local Trains S-Bahn to Wien-Mitte/Landstraße or Railjet to Wien Hauptbahnhof (central station) depart about every 30 minutes. Tickets available at vending machines directly at the station (3.80 Euros) and are valid for connections in Vienna as well (urban railways, underground, tram and bus). From Wien-Mitte/Landstraße take the underground U4 to Karlsplatz to the workshop venue or rather to Kettenbrückengasse to the hotel. From Wien Hauptbahnhof take underground U1 to Taubstummengasse for the venue or change to U4 at Karlsplatz and continue to Kettenbrückengasse for the hotel. Taxi from the airport to the workshop venue or the hotel costs about 45 Euros (as of 2017). Restaurants: Restaurants in all price ranges can be found within walking distance of both the Kolpinghaus and the workshop site. Local Organizing Committee: The local organizing team will be recruited from the Institute of High Energy Physics (HEPHY) and the Doktoratskolleg. It will be chaired by Markus Friedl, the head of the electronics department of the Institute of High Energy Physics (HEPHY), with Claudia-Elisabeth Wulz (HEPHY) as scientific and local contact person at CERN. HEPHY has a long tradition of organizing conferences and workshops (up to 800 participants) the Vienna Conference on Instrumentation takes place every 3 years since 1978, next one is the VCI 2019; the Topical Workshop on Electronics for Particle Physics (TWEPP 2011); and the International Workshop on Vertex Detectors (VERTEX 2011), the International Workshop on the CKM Unitarity Triangle (CKM2014), the European Physical Society Conference on High Energy Physics (EPS-HEP 2015) are among the more recent events

5 Planned social events: Welcome reception at Vienna University of Technology Dinner at the Heurigen 10er-Marie Heuriger is a typical Austrian wine tavern. The Heuriger 10er-Marie is the oldest one in Vienna. Tentative fees: Participants: 665,- The fee includes venue and facilities, accommodation including breakfast buffet, two coffee breaks per day, lunch at the students cafeteria Mensa - menu with a soup and a main dish (vegetarian or meat/fish dishes to choose) and a soft drink, welcome reception, dinner, workshop materials.
