1 Crash Blackspots The following tables list the worst crash blackspots at both national and regional levels. A blackspot here is defined as a concentration of urban crashes within a 30m radius, or a concentration of open road crashes within a 250m radius, and three or more fatal or serious injury crashes in five years. In each list the blackspots are ordered by the total number of crashes at the site. The intention is to list the 20 worst sites for each region. In some cases there are not 20 sites that meet the criteria. In other cases, because there are a number of sites with an equal number of crashes, the list has not been ed to 20. Each table shows the road on which the blackspot is located (the Crash Road) and the closest side road (Side Road). The Location column indicates whether the blackspot is located at the intersection with this road. If the crash was not at the intersection, the distance and direction from the side road are shown. (In some cases, the blackspot location is identified by a feature on the road rather than by a side road). The following tables are based on data.
