4 Air Circuit Breaker Feature Space Saving Design HiAN type ACBs have two frame sizes. The height and depth dimensions are identical in all sizes up to 3200AF Draw-out type (up to 1600AF): 490 mm (H)320 mm (W)388 mm (D) Draw-out type (From 2000AF up to 3200AF): 490 mm (H)410 mm (W)388 mm (D) The panel cutout size for all ACBs is the same, so it is convenient to standardize the switchboard design. 9 Type of Mounting Draw-out Type This type of ACB consists of a breaker body and a draw-out cradle. The breaker body can be moved within or removed from the draw-out cradle that is fixed in the switchboard. There are four breaker body positions: CONNECTED, TEST, ISOLATED, and Removed. The switchboard panel door can be kept closed the CONNECTED, TEST, and ISOLATED positions ( shut-in three positions ) CONNECTED position Both the main and control circuits are connected for normal service. TEST position The main circuit is isolated and the control circuits are connected. This position permits operation tests without the need for opening the switchboard panel door. ISOLATED position Both the main and control circuits are disconnected. The switchboard panel door does not need to be opened. Fixed Type This type of ACB has no draw-out cradle and is designed to be directly mounted in the switchboard. Control Circuit Terminals Control circuit terminals are front located to allow easy wiring/access. Connection Methods Main circuit terminals Two types of main circuit terminal arrangements are available: vertical terminals, horizontal terminals. Different types of terminal arrangements can be specified for the line and load sides. Unless otherwise specified by the user, horizontal terminals are given to all types. 12 Air Circuit Breaker Spring Charging Operation Manual Charging Type For this type of ACB, the closing springs are charged by the spring charging handle. ON/OFF operation of the ACB is performed by ON/OFF buttons on the ACB. Charging the closing springs The closing springs can be charged by spring charging handle. Closing the ACB Press CLOSE button in the front cover to close ACB. Opening the ACB Press OPEN button in the front cover to open ACB. Anti-pumping Function Even if the ON switch is kept on, ACB closing operation is performed only once. To close the ACB again, turn off the ON switch to charge the closing springs, and then turn on the ON switch. If ON and OFF signals are simultaneously given of the ACB, the ON signal is ignored. Motor Charging Type For this type of ACB, the closing springs are charged by a motor. ON/OFF operation of the ACB can be performed remotely. The control circuits provide optimum control to the spring charging and ACB ON/OFF operation. A manual charging mechanism is also fitted to facilitate inspection or maintenance work. Charging the closing springs A motor is used to charge the closing springs. When the closing springs are released to close the ACB, they are automatically charged again by the motor for the next ON operation. Closing the ACB Turning on remote ON switch enables the ACB to be remotely closed. Opening the ACB For opening the ACB remotely, specify the shunt trip device or the undervoltage trip. 13 Electrical Tripping Device Shunt Trip (SHT) The shunt trip is used to electrically open the breaker from Shunt Trip Rating a remote place(s). Both shunt trip and undervoltage trip may be fitted in a single breaker. Capacitor Trip The capacitor trip is used in conjunction with a shunt trip, to ensure normal operation of the latter with in seconds after the control power (AC) is out or in a low voltage condition. A combination of capacitor trip and shunt trip work as a normal AC-rated shunt trip, and may be used to open the breaker by an external protective device. (110 V) Two types of UVT are available: An instantaneous trip, which trip the Air Circuit Breaker immediately, its circuit voltage drops below a predetermined value. A time-delay trip, which operates with a time-delay of 500ms, thus providing coordination with the short timedelay characteristic. 14 Air Circuit Breaker Accessory Main Circuit Safety Shutters The Main circuit safety shutters automatically conceal the main circuit contacts on the draw-out cradle when the ACB is drawn out. The top and bottom shutters operate simultaneously. Breaker Fixing Bolts The breaker fixing bolts hold the breaker body securely to the draw-out cradle in connected position. Use them if the ACB is subject to strong vibration. Position Padlock The position padlock lever prevents the breaker body from inadvertently being drawn out. The position padlock lever in the pulled-out position locks the breaker body in the CONNECTED, TEST, or ISOLATED position. Padlock is not supplied(shackle diameter 6 mm below). Arc Shield Attached to the draw-out cradle, this cover eliminate the safety clearance requirement above the breaker. Test Jumper The test jumper is a plug-in type, and allows ON-OFF tests on all the HiAN ACBs with the breaker body drawn out from the draw-out cradle. The standard jumper cable is 3.5 m long. Wrong Inserting Prevention Device Interchangeability exists within the HiAN type ACBs. Because of this feature, there is a possibility for an ACB of a different specification being placed into the drawout cradle. Using the wrong inserting prevention device eliminates such a possibility. This device is capable of distinguishing nine different breaker bodies. ON-OFF Cycle Counter The ON-OFF cycle counter is a mechanical 5-digit readout that shows the number of ON-OFF cycles of the ACB. Counter readings serve as a guide for maintenance or inspection. ON-OFF Button Cover An ON-OFF button cover prevents inadvertent or unauthorized operation of the ON or OFF button. 14 HiAN & HiAS Type

15 Auxiliary Switches The auxiliary switches operate during the ACB ON-OFF operation. Connections to the switches are made via ring terminals. The auxiliary switches for draw-out type ACBs operate in the all positions. The auxiliary switches are available for general service and for microload. (4a 4b, standard) Lifting Lug Lifting lugs are detachable tools that can be used to lift a draw-out cradle. Lifting lugs for body are available as an option. Do not supply different voltages to contacts of a switch DC5 V 1 ma Mechanical Interlock Mechanical interlocks for interlocking 2 or 3 ACBs in any arrangement is available. PNL Cut-out Interlocking is possible between any frame size within the HiAN-ACB range. Contact HHI for the details of any type with 3 ACBs. For example at vertical type, minimum pitch (575 mm) is possible if the proper insulating distance is obtained. For large pitch, consult with HHI (maximum 1000 mm). HiAN Air Circuit Breaker

16 Air Circuit Breaker Accessory Door Flange Cutting Door Flange A door flange can be used as a decoration panel that covers the cutout on the switchboard panel, and provides IP20 protection. APR Checker, Type IANS-HOC5 The APR checker allows easy checking of the long time-delay trip, short time-delay trip, instantaneous trip, and ground fault trip functions and the pre-trip alarm function of the APR in the field. Connection Diagram for Neutral CT HHI can provide this neutral line CT as an option. For the 4-pole ACB, a measuring CT instead of the neutral line CT is already built into the neutral phase of the ACB when the ground fault protection is fitted. 16 HiAN & HiAS Type

17 Key Lock(Lock-In-Open) An option of key lock is available in lock-in-open type that locks the ACB in the open position. When this option is installed on a ACB, operators cannot operate the ACB without matched key. Key Interlock(Lock-In-Open) key interlock is a system of interlocking between ACBs, fitted with a key lock of lock-in-open type. The key must be inserted to release the lock before closing ACB. The key can be removed when the ACB is opened and locked After utilizing the lock-in-open type key lock, limited keys as default provides an effective and reliable interlock system. Using the same keys also allows interlocking between an ACB and other devices (such as a switchboard door). A cylinder-type lock is supplied to ACB. (with angular movement 90 clockwise to trap key). 18 Air Circuit Breaker Accessory Position Switches The position switches operate to give indication of breaker positions: CONNECTED, TEST, ISOLATED. 19 HiAN & HiAS Type HiAN ACB Type ACB Protection Relay Determine the protective characteristics appropriate for your application Type APR multi-protective device, the base current (lo) serves as the base to determine the long time-delay trip, short time-delay trip, instantaneous trip and pre-trip alarm characteristics. The following steps show how to determine the optimum base current (lo) that will provide the most appropriate characteristic to suit your application. For General Feeder Circuits For Generator Protection Step1 Determine the largest normal load current (ILOAD) that will pass through the Air Circuit Breaker. Step2 Select the rated primary current (ICT) of the multi-protective device. The table below lists the values of (ICT) available for the respective breaker types. Select (ICT) according to the following criteria (ICT)(ILOAD) Step1 Determine the rated generator current (lgen) Step2 Determine the base current (lo) which is the reference current for the AL, AS, AI, AP pick-up current settings of the multiprotective device. 20 Air Circuit Breaker ACB Protection Relay Type APR Multi-protective Device This device is a high-reliability, multi-function protection relay, utilizing a 8-bit microprocessor. In addition to three over-current protective functions, (long time-delay, short time-delay and instantaneous), a pre-trip alarm and / or ground fault protective function can also be incorporated within one device. Indication for long time-delay trip and pick-up, via the LED and terminals for field checking (APR checker required), are included in the device. Furthermore, two additional operation indication functions can be included. By using these functions, simplified checking becomes possible. 21 Optional Function LCD FT CV AMS Displaying the Protective Function and the Additional Function Field Test Function External Control Voltage is required APR Monitoring System Pre-trip Alarm (AP) When the current reached the setting value, this function operates. If the current drops below the pick-up current [IP], the function resets automatically. Neutral Phase Protection (NP) This function protects the neutral conductor from the damage due to a large current. The current and time setting is the same as LTD. Making Current Release (MCR) The instantaneous trip function is the default, and the MCR function can be active by switching the INST/MCR knob. This MCR function trips the ACB, if the current exceeds the pick-up current setting only during the closing operation. After the ACB completes the closing, this function gets disabled. Field Test (FT) AL, AS and AL function can be tested by the APR itself. If detailed field test is required, the APR Checker is available for all APRs. APR Monitoring System (AMS) APR-1D-GM has the RS-485 communication port, which can be applied to the APR Monitoring System. Throught the interface unit, the ACB can be directly operated, and the power and the load condition can be supervised and monitored. 53 ACB Operation Environment The standard environment for ACBs is as follows: Ambient Temperature -5 to +40 The average temperature for 24hours must not exceed 35 Relative Humidity 45% to 85% Attitude Below 2000m (6,600 feet) Atmosphere Excessive water vapor, oil vapor, smoke, dust or corrosive gases must not exist. Sudden change in temperature, condensation, or icing must not occur. Transportation Conditions Never enter the area under the air circuit breaker when it is lifted or suspended using a lifter or chain block. The air circuit breaker may suddenly drop. Installation Conditions When installing the HiAN series air circuit breaker, refer to the installation instructions in the catalogue and instruction manual. IP Protection Standard : IP20 A door flange can be used as a decoration panel that covers the cutout on the switchboard panel, and provides IP20 protection. With rubber shield : IP31 For IP31 protection please specify the door flange with a gasket. Storage Store the breaker in a dry indoor location to prevent condensation due to a sudden change in temperature, which is quite harmful to the breaker insulation.
