1 5. OVERCURRENT RELEASE (OCR) Options available for the type AR ACBs include a highly reliable, multi-functional overcurrent release (OCR) with a built-in 8- bit microprocessor. This OCR is supplied with power through a CT and main circuit current signals from current sensors. When the OCR detects a fault, it sends a trip signal to the tripping coil (TC) or provides a trip indication or an alarm depending on the type of the fault. The OCR uses the root mean square sensing for the long time delay (LTD), N-phase protection (NP), and pretrip alarm (PTA) functions. (When six times the CT rated primary current is exceeded, the peak value sensing is used instead.) If a harmonic current flows through the ACB continuously, the root mean square sensing allows the ACB to operate normally. The OCR is available in the three types that follows: AGR-22L L characteristic for general feeder (for works and transformer protection) AGR-22R R characteristic for general feeder (3 characteristics conforming to IEC60255) AGR-22S S characteristic for generator protection 5-1. Specifications Specifications of the OCR are shown in Table 17 and Fig. 27. In HOT mode, the OCR trips open the ACB in shorter time than in COLD mode when an overload occurs. The HOT mode will be suitable for protection of heat sensitive loads. The OCR is factory set to COLD mode. To select HOT, change the mode from COLD to HOT. If the control power is lost, load data stored in HOT mode is cleared. Fig. 27 shows the operating time in COLD and HOT modes. *4: When INST is enabled, the OCR trips open the ACB when the trip pickup current is reached or exceeded, irrespective of the ACB status. When MCR is enabled, the OCR trips open the ACB when the ACB making current setting is reached or exceeded, and after tripping operation, it locks the ACB in the open state. When using the MCR function, control power supply is required. MCR provides the INST function if the control power is lost. *5: Available as an option instead of UVT operation indication COLD mode 2 HOT mode: When an overload occurs in a 50%-load state, the operating time is approx. 80% of the time required in COLD mode. 3 HOT mode: When an overload occurs in a 75%-load state, the operating time is approx. 60% of the time required in COLD mode. 4 HOT mode: When an overload occurs in a 100%-load state, the operating time is approx. 20% of the time required in COLD mode. 2 5-2. Display Navigation and Characteristic Setting Procedures CAUTION OCR setting changes must be performed by competent persons. The following describes how to navigate through displayed items on the LCD and set the OCR characteristic. 1) Push the right end of the OCR cover to the left at the recess on the front cover to unlatch and open the OCR cover. See Fig. 28. If the OCR cover is padlocked, first remove the padlock. OCR cover Recess Front cover Fig. 28 OCR cover 2) Use the MODE (-), SELECE (+), ENT, ESC and RE buttons to navigate displayed items on the LCD and set the OCR characteristic. Fig. 29 shows the front view of the OCR. The service life of the LCD is generally assumed to end when the contrast decreases by 50%, and is rated at approx. 5.7 years at an ambient temperature of 25 C and a relative humidity of 55%. If the contrast decreases so that LCD indications are hard to view, replace the OCR unit. For the replacement of the OCR, contact us. When the short time delay and MCR current values are set to NON, the OCR automatically changes the short time delay trip pickup current to [I n ] x 10. A pickup current means the threshold by which the OCR determines whether or not an overcurrent occurs. When the current flowing through the OCR exceeds the pickup current setting provided that [I R ] x 1.05 < pickup current setting [I R ] 1.2, the OCR starts counting the time for tripping. Once the current flowing through the OCR reduces to less than the pickup current setting, time count is reset. *1: A change in rated current setting results in changes in long time delay, short time delay, instantaneous, and pretrip alarm pickup current settings accordingly. *2: The ground fault trip pickup current setting should not exceed 1200A. 15 5-5. OCR Function Check CAUTION OCR function check and setting changes must be performed by competent persons. After completion of OCR tests, be sure to return the settings to the original values. Failure to do so may cause a fire or burnout. Use the following procedure to perform OCR function check. 1) Open the ACB and draw out the breaker body to the TEST position. 2) To check the ACB along with the OCR, close the ACB. (For MCR check, close the ACB after test signal input.) 3) Follow the procedure described in Fig. 39 to check the ACB (and OCR) for normal operation. Note that the ACB will not operate in some modes. (Checking the OCR and the ACB involves ACB tripping operation. ) Use a tester to check for normal contact output. The operating time can be checked by comparing the reading on the LCD with the value derived from the applicable characteristic curve. (When the pretrip alarm function is checked, the operating time does not appear on the LCD. Use a timer to measure the operating time.) Type ANU-1 OCR checker (optional) should be used for accurate measurement of the operating time. 16 5-6. OCR Characteristic Check OCR check must be performed by competent persons. CAUTION The following describes how to check the OCR characteristic. To check other items of OCR than described in this section, use type ANU-1 OCR checker (optional) Characteristic of adjustable undervoltage trip device (UVT) The following describes how to check the characteristic of the adjustable undervoltage trip device (UVT). 1) Make sure the following tools are available. Stopwatch Switches Slidax (300 VA) Voltmeter Cables Power supplies (UVT and control power supplies) 2) Open the ACB, turn off an upstream breaker to isolate the ACB main and control circuits from any power, and draw out the ACB body to the TEST position. 3) Make sure existing control power cables 08, 18, 28, 01, 11, and 21 are not energized and disconnect the cables, and then arrange the testing circuit as shown in Fig. 40. UVT Power supply Switch Slidax Voltmeter Fig. 40 Circuit arrangement for checking the characteristic of the undervoltage trip device Checking the UVT attraction voltage 4) Gradually increase the UVT supply voltage ( 08, 18, 28 ) starting from zero until the UVT operation indication LED (Fig ) turns green. Because it takes about 2 seconds for the UVT to start attraction after the attraction voltage is applied, the ACB Control power supply supply voltage must be increased stepwise at intervals of at least 2 seconds. The UVT characteristic is acceptable if the supply voltage at which the UVT operation indication LED turns green falls within the specified range. 5) Manually close the ACB to make sure the ACB can be closed. Checking the UVT tripping voltage 6) Increase the UVT supply voltage ( 08, 18, 28 ) to the rated voltage [Uc]. 7) Gradually decrease the UVT supply voltage until the UVT operation indication LED (Fig ) turns red indicating the ACB trips open. If a time delay is set, the UVT supply voltage must be decreased stepwise at appropriate intervals. The UVT characteristic is acceptable if the supply voltage at which the UVT operation indication LED turns red is within {[Uc] x 0.65} ±5%. 8) Remove the UVT supply voltage, and press the reset button (Fig ) to turn off the LED. Checking the UVT trip timing 9) Apply the rated voltage [Uc] to the UVT power supply terminals ( 08, 18, 28 ) and manually close the ACB. 10) Rapidly decrease the UVT supply voltage to [Uc] x 0.4 or less. At this time, use a stopwatch to measure the time required for the UVT operation indication LED (Fig ) to turn red indicating the ACB trips open. The UVT characteristic is acceptable if the time required for the UVT operation indication LED to turn red falls within the specified range. 11) Remove the UVT supply voltage, and press the reset button (Fig ) to turn off the LED. 12) Remove the testing circuit and restore the ACB wiring, body position and power supply.
