4 4 WELCOME LETTER Dear Colleagues, On behalf of the SAE OBD Symposium - Europe organisers, I would like to thank you for joining us in Turin for this 3-day meeting. This is the latest in a series of OBD-related events, that started in Detroit some 20 years ago and has attracted a wide audience ever since. Each year, our audience is split evenly between returning guests and first-time attendees. We believe that this is due to the rapid technical and legislative changes that are affecting engineering around the world. We first added a European OBD meeting to reflect the spread of the technical requirements in Europe, and throughout the world. This year, you will meet with international vehicle manufacturers, suppliers of automotive and measurement systems, as well as representatives of the legislative bodies who regulate OBD globally. We are proud to welcome speakers from both CARB and European regulators but also provide an update on the China OBD regulations. The schedule of presentations has been carefully selected to cover the relative technical issues, namely light-duty and heavy-duty, with time set aside for breaks so that you will have a chance to discuss specific topics and share ideas in a smaller group. This meeting marks our return to Turin, one of the leading centres of European automotive engineering. Our sessions are sure to be informative and interesting, including presentations covering the latest developments in solutions, changes in legislative requirements plus a range of other technical subjects. SAE OBD Symposium - Europe is not only an academic event, but an excellent opportunity to meet many of the industry s leading practitioners in the engineering of OBD systems.
