3 Unijoint is the specialist when it comes to dismantling joints, flange adaptors and couplings. The design principle Although there are numerous versions of flange adaptors and couplings available, the basic design principle is the same for all versions: Couplings are the flexible solution for joining two pipes. Couplings consist of two follower end rings, a middle ring, two gaskets and a set of bolts and nuts. Each rubber gasket is contained in a compression chamber which is formed by the follower end rings, middle ring and pipe surface. By thightening the coupling s bolts, the follower end rings are drawn together, thus reducing the volume of the compression chambers and compressing the gaskets, resulting in a pressure tight seal. Flange adaptors consist of one follower end ring, a middle ring and flange, one gasket and a set of bolts and nuts. Flange adaptors are ideal for joining a pipe to a flanged product like for instance a gate valve, butterfly valve, return flow inhibitors or fittings in general. Similar to a coupling, the compression chamber is formed by the follower end ring, middle ring and pipe surface. UNIJOINT flange adaptors can be equipped with flanges to any standard. In order to ensure that couplings and flange adaptors give a lifetime of trouble free service, the gasket is compressed well above the pressure needed to form a pressure tight seal. This compensates for rubber creep, which may occur due to flunctuations in temperature, pressure, and general loss of strength in rubber products over a period of time. 4 UNIJOINT Eurocoup flange adaptors: the straightforward solution The UNIJOINT Eurocoup flange adaptors are the most basic type of dismantling joint. On one side, it has a flange connection in accordance with the required flange standard, on the other an insertion socket for the pipe. A variety of standard pipe types can be connected. Since the UNIJOINT flange adaptor does not offer end load restraint, it requires a fixed point in the pipeline. If the pipe end can be pulled out of the flange adaptor, anchoring is required. The UNIJOINT flange adaptor has an expansion and contraction of ± 2,5 mm for the gasket, and offers an adjustability of ± 25 mm during installation as well an angular deflection of 3. The UNIJOINT flange adaptor absorbs vibrations in the pipeline, overcomes axial offset and guarantees a permanently leaktight connection. UNIJOINT Eurocoup dedicated flange adaptors are available for a variety of pipe types. The anti- torque bolts also make the flange adaptor suitable for a fast one-man installation. 5 UNIJOINT Eurocoup couplings: the dedicated solution UNIJOINT Eurocoup couplings are the flexible solution for joining pipes. These couplings are ideal for absorbing noises and vibrations in pipelines and overcoming axial offset, guaranteeing a permanently leaktight connection. Each rubber gasket is contained in a compression chamber which is formed by the follower end rings, middle ring and pipe surface. By thightening the coupling s bolts, the follower end rings are drawn together, thus reducing the volume of the compression chambers and compressing the gaskets, resulting in a pressure tight seal. The UNIJOINT Eurocoup coupling allows an expansion and contraction of ± 2,5 mm and an angular deflection of 3 for each gasket (± 5 mm & 6 in total for each coupling) The UNIJOINT Eurocoup dedicated couplings can be delivered in standard and non-standard designs e.g. stepped couplings and special couplings for high working pressures up to 100 bar. For diameters above DN 300, UNIJOINT is able to manufacture products for any outer pipe diameter according to any existing pipe standard on customers request. 6 UNIJOINT stepped flange adaptors: for challenging pipe connections UNIJOINT stepped flange adaptors are the ideal solution for situations where the nominal diameter of a pipe is larger (or smaller) than the nominal diameter of the flange. Stepped flange adaptors are available for any standard and non-standard outer pipe diameter [sizes greater than DN 300] and are specially engineered to ensure a perfect and leaktight connection. Similar to the UNIJOINT Eurocoup flange adaptors, these stepped flange adaptors allow an angular deflection of 3 and an expansion and contraction of ± 2,5 mm for the gasket. Furthermore these stepped flange adaptors can be equipped with flanges according to any existing flange norm. In cases where stepped flange adaptors are needed, it is best to consult with our engineering department. This will ensure a perfect design, specifically engineered for your specific problem. 7 UNIJOINT stepped couplings: for joining different pipe diameters UNIJOINT stepped couplings are the ideal solution for situations where pipe ends with different outer diameters have to be joined. These couplings are specially engineered based on the lay-out of the pipeline. Similar to the dedicated Eurocoup couplings, the UNIJOINT stepped couplings are ideal for absorbing noises and vibrations in pipelines and overcoming axial offset which guarantees a permanently leaktight connection. Stepped couplings are available for diameters greater than DN 300. Depending on the gap between both pipes to be connected, the UNIJOINT stepped coupling will be constructed with a flange in the middle. In case of a situation where different pipe diameters have to be connected we advise to consult with our engineering department. It is of great importance to know what the outer diameter of each pipe end is and if the pipe ends are correctly calibrated. 8 Perfect technology thanks to top-quality materials All variants correspond to the world leading AWWA C219 standard, and are manufactured in Europe using top material qualities in a precise process. Specially developed expanders are used for steel production, where the rings are expanded outwards evenly under heavy pressure. This guarantees an absolutely round product with minimum tolerances to satisfy hydrostatic pressure testing according to AWWA C219. The high quality bolts, nuts and washers - key for a sturdy, leaktight design - are made of hot dip galvanized steel, with stainless steel versions available as an option. Only high-quality EPDM or NBR rubber compound qualities for water, drinking water and sewerage are used for the gasket. These guarantee a clean, leaktight seal for years, and at the same time allow angular deflection and pipe movement.
