Our program features speedometer specialist Craig Wood, of McVey s Cadillac in Overland Park. Craig knows speedometers inside-out how to rebuild, maintain and recalibrate speedometers for just about any vehicle you can think of including your Packard. He will make a live presentation for us, so bring your questions and enjoy the program! Two New Member Families! We have a new member family, Toby & Jeanette Masten of Springfield, MO. They own his grandfather s 1922 Packard Six sedan. This is an unrestored example of a great Packard. And please welcome our newest members, Pete & Dianne Stelling, of Cole Camp, Missouri, and their son Lance, of Kansas City, Missouri. They own a 1930 dual-cowl phaeton, a Touring Sedan, and a 1954 Caribbean. Welcome All!! Inside This Issue: Summertime was full of Packard activities. A host of festivals and meets were a great opportunity to show off your car, and maybe win a little acclaim for all that work you put into it! We visit a festival in Cole Camp, Missouri, and take look at the winners at his year s National Meet. Its Autumn, and it s time for football and Chili! THE MISSION OF THE KANSAS BARN ALLIANCE IS TO PRESERVE KANSAS S BARNS. THE GROUP WORKS CLOSELY WITH THE KANSAS STATE HISTORICAL SOCIETY. NEXT JUNE KANSAS WILL BE HOSTING THE NATIONAL BARN ALLIANCE MEETING IN DONIPHAN COUNTY KANSAS. DONIPHAN COUNTY IS JUST WEST OF ST. JOSEPH. AS A BOARD MEMBER, I WILL BE HELPING WITH REGISTRATION AT THIS YEARS EVENT. IT S EXCITING WORKING WITH THE BOARD TO HELP PLAN AND PROMOTE NEXT YEARS BARN NATIONAL. JUST AS ANTIQUE CARS ARE A PART OF OUR HERITAGE, SO ARE BARNS AND FARMS. IT S ALARMING THE RATE AT WHICH FAMILY FARMS ARE DISAPPEARING FROM THE LANDSCAPE. THE FRIGHTENING CONCERN WITH THE DISAPPEARANCE OF FAMILY FARMS AND BARNS IS THAT THERE IS USUALLY NO PICTORIAL RECORD OF THEIR EXISTENCE. ON A PERSONAL NOTE, MY OLDEST SON AND DAUGHTER IN LAW, JOHN AND MISSY, ARE EXPECTING AGAIN! LILLY AND HER NEW SIBLING WILL BE 11 MONTHS APART. SATURDAY OCT. 17 TH WILL BE THE ANNUAL CHILI FEED. BOB S SONS HAVE GRACIOUSLY OFFERED TO HOST IT THIS YEAR IN HIS MEMORY. WE WILL ALL LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING BOB S FAMILY AND SPENDING A WONDERFUL AFTERNOON WITH OUR PACKARD FRIENDS! Always one of the highlights, perhaps THE highlight, of each year of our Packard activities, the Chili Supper at the Aller Packard Garage has come to mean much more than old cars or food. It is a celebration of Friendship. This year we will celebrate one friend in particular, Bob Aller. For all those who knew and loved Bob, it is hoped you will bring more than a dessert or a salad. Be sure to bring a fond memory, or a story of Bob, and share it if you would. He always did love a good story. Approach the Aller residence on 144 th Street from either Highway A or Nation Road. Sylvester s 1930 Packard - recently purchased by Leon Stelling. Pat McGuinnes received 2 nd place for his all original Two 1958 Chevy Impalas and a 1966 Olds Tornado owned by Leon Stelling.
