Currently, the meeting place is the Mount Healthy Community Center near the pool. Newsletter The Negative Camber is the bi-monthly newsletter of the Corvair Club of Cincinnati and is received free by all members. 3 The Prez Sez... The Prez Sez July/August 2013 Summer is moving right on. At this point we have already enjoyed our Mid Ohio Tri Meeting. Thanks to all the loyal and hard working CCC members for helping host this year s event. It turned out to be a nice day. The car count was down somewhat, we think as a result of other events around the same time. The folks in attendance appeared to have a good time. Our own Wes landed best of show in his 68 convertible. Way to go Wes!! There were several CCC members at the national meet in Kalamazoo. This was my first experience and many stated it was one of the higher count meets in a while. I had a great time. There was something for everyone to do. The Gilmore museum was fantastic. The red 1969 never sold Monza Fisher Body was a real shock-and-awe event. Super Cool!!!!! Oh and Wes one again at the show on Saturday. He is becoming the man to beat. Good job again Wes! The Hamilton Car Parade is now behind us also. It was a rainy day and overall turnout was lower than normal (200 cars vs. the normal 300+). The good news is was a cooler day and as the day progressed the weather improved to the point sunshine at the courthouse. Seven hearty Corvairs made it out. I talked to the parade officials and they thought that was very good for such a wet day. Our own Don Filkins landed Second Place and by some miracle Carla s car landed first (I think the rain was the key). Yes Corvairs are in print again. This month s Hemmings has an article on the Lakewood station wagon. It always a treat to see our favorite car get some positive press, the secret is getting out. Maximize the rest of the summer. 4 Just-A-Minute MINUTES OF JULY MEETING Meeting called to order by 8:00 p.m. There were 21 in attendance. The club welcomed new member Charles Comins and his grandson Jacob Bergman. Charles owns a '61 Lakewood. Glad to have you join us! Mike reported a balance of $ in the club treasury after expenses for the Mid-Ohio Meet. OLD BUSINESS The CORSA Convention and the Hamilton parade will be history by the time you read this. Hopefully the weather will cooperate for both events. Corvairs on the River will take place on August 10. The scale-model Corvair that we donated should now be on display at Entertrainment Junction. NEW BUSINESS The Mt. Healthy car show will be held on Sept. 14. Let's try to have lots of Corvairs at this event. We are tentatively planning a trip to the drive-in movie near Hamilton with the Queen City Classics car club, probably sometime in August. Details to follow. The Christmas dinner is once again planned for Vincenzo's sometime in early December. Patty Demeter will contact them about available dates. We enjoyed cake and pizza at the meeting as a belated 90th birthday celebration for Karl Lemmerman. Happy Birthday, Karl! Meeting 8:40 p.m. MINUTES OF THE AUGUST MEETING Meeting called to order by 3:30. There were 17 in attendance. OLD BUSINESS The club Christmas party will be held at Vincenzo's sometime in early December. Patty Demeter will check for available dates. The club is planning a trip to the Holiday drive-in sometime in September. More details to follow. The Mt. Healthy car show will be held on September 14. Let's try to have a big Corvair turnout for this event. The Pumpkin Run will be held on October 4, 5 and 6. NEW BUSINESS A proposal was made that a news update be ed to all club members in the months that the Negative Camber is not printed. Those in attendance approved the motion. Proposed winter club events included trips to the Packard Museum in Dayton, Wright-Patterson AFB and Entertrainment Junction. 8 Mid-Ohio Meet 2013 On June 23 the Corvair Club of Cincinnati hosted this year's Mid-Ohio meet at Caesar Creek State Park. The weather was warm and humid with showers predicted, but fortunately the rain held off until after the show had ended. As always, the array of food was both ample and impressive, with lots of side dishes and desserts in evidence. Club president Joe Von Der Haar ably manned the grille, serving up a tasty array of grilled meats. Our club members were very successful in procuring a large variety of registration gifts. Thanks to the club treasury and Clark's Corvair we were able to offer many very nice items for the prize raffle. The grand prize was a $100 Clarks gift certificate, with several smaller gift certificates also raffled off before the day was over. We had 15 Corvairs in attendance. This was a smaller number than we generally see at the Mid-Ohio. There were 2 factors which may have been responsible: the heat, humidity and threat of showers on the day of the show, and the fact that the Corvair Olympics were held in Indianapolis on the same weekend. The results of the People's Choice awards were as follows: Late Closed: Don Berding,, '66 Corsa coupe Early Closed: Craig Smith, ' sedan Best FC: Kevin Clark, '63 Corvan Early Open: Ralph Gubser, '64 Spyder convertible Late Open and Best of Show: Wes Greiwe, '68 Monza convertible Congratulations to this year's winners.
