From the Editor As we enter the fall season, there are a lot of events happening around the country before the weather turns too cool to be comfortable outside. I ve included some some of the closer events in this newsletter. We v e a l s o h a d s o m e g r e a t representation at other shows recently and hopefully you ll enjoy those pictures that I received as much as I did. If you got the latest Communique, you ll see that James Law won an award for his Rampside. He followed that up with a trophy at the Battle of Byron against some very nice classic cars and some fairly new ones as well. 3 UPCOMING EVENTS AND SHOWS October 4-5, 2013 Vairs at the Fair in Perry, GA hosted by the Heart of Georgia Corvair Club. Friday Night Southern Hospitality Party, Friday Swap Meet in the hotel parking lot, Saturday Parade and Display at the Georgia National Fair, Saturday Night Catfish and Shrimp Dinner, Raffle, 50/50. No judging, just good fun with Corvair people. Host hotel is the Ramada 2024 Watson Blvd., Warner Robins, Ga. Rates are $55 upstairs, $60 downstairs. Old cars on display would be a nice touch with the World War 2 planes that will be on display including a B-17, B-24 bombers and a P-51 Mustang fighter. There will be other interesting events. Admission is free, fees will be charged for tours of the inside of the planes, rides etc. Perry Airport is located on at Exit 138 off of I 75. We can start getting it on all calendars and making plans. We will be interested in hearing from any one with ideas to make it special, we may not use them but we would consider ideas. THE SWAP SHOP FOR SALE: 1964 Spyder convertible. Turbo has been taken out and auto transmission put in. Still have Turbo and all parts. Four new tires. Manual top. No dents. Glass good. Interior excellent. Have repaired some rust spots. Will sell for what I paid for it, $3000. Also have a ramp for sale, $800. New ignition system, new carbs, new A/C compressor (installed, but not completely hooked to system). Good black interior seats, original tube radio works, almost new tires, good paint (Candy Apple) with just a few spots of surface rust under paint. In addition I have what I believe to be a complete engine for a 1960 Corvair, new pistons, cylinders, bearings, just is not put together, along with a transmission. I also have a complete engine for a 1963 (ran when pulled out). It has a new torque converter, new starter. Distributor is off of engine as well as carbs. 4 AUGUST MEETING MINUTES - DAVID CLAMP August 10, 2013: Attendees were Billy & Eleanor Bruce, Keith & Sharon Burkingstock, James Law, Tye and Janet Howard, and David & Heidi Clamp. Since the meeting was happening at the Battle of Byron Car Show, we did not have a formal meeting to discuss club business. We noted that we ll meet at Ole Times Country Buffet for September, and that the November meeting will be at Tybee Island. There were 52 cars in the show this year. James Law won an award for the nicest interior in the show with his 1963 Rampside. Congratulations James! We ll see you in September. Some of us plan to go down on Friday, others will drive down on Saturday. We have been to Tybee before and enjoyed it very much. This is our regular meeting weekend and should be a fun time. We will plan to all have dinner together Saturday night and spend time just hanging out. If you do not wish to stay at this motel there are others available, go to for other options. Anyone is welcome to join us for this outing, drive your Corvair or water pumper, just come and have fun. CHOO CHOO REPORT - LILLIAN LAW Heart of Georgia Corvair Club was well represented at the Choo Choo show. Billy and Eleanor Bruce, Al and Paula Hilderbrand, Dean Gemberling and son J. B. Feathers (soon to be a marine), Bill and Jeannette Rudolph, Raymond Paul, James and Lillian Law all displayed their Corvairs. Chuck and Shirley Smith, Wanda Cook, Billy, Wendy and Kevin Price also attended. Battle of Byron Best of Show winner NOVEMBER AT TYBEE ISLAND - LILLIAN LAW Earlier this year the Heart of Georgia Corvair Club voted to hold their November meeting on Tybee Island. This is meant to be just a fun outing. I have found a small private owned mote in walking distance to the beach. The Dunes Motel, 1409 Butler St., rates are $49.95 for a room with 2 Queen beds, call This is their rate for this time of year. If you think you would like to go call right away. Cancellation policy is 3 days before arrival This is an older motel and I am sure it is not fancy but we spend very little time in the rooms. The dates are Nov. 8 and 9. Heart of Georgia had 3 winning Rampsides (all driven) entered in the People s Choice event. Trophies were awarded, 1 st Billy Bruce, Red Rampside, 2 nd James Law, Teal Rampside and 3 rd Dean Gemberling, Orange Rampside. James Law received the longest distance driven and also the oldest attendee awards. The trophies had pictures of the winners with their Corvairs. There were 43 very nice Corvairs displayed in the beautiful gardens of the Choo Choo Hotel. This is one of the nicest locations to show cars that we have attended. Of the 43 entrants eight were F.C. s. Choo Choo held their last show in We congratulate them on a very enjoyable event; location was great, attendance good and fellowship wonderful. PAGE 4
