2 Overview FY2018 VMS hours fished for LA and LAGC IFQ components, April through July 2018, by region and SAMS area. VMS effort outside of SAMS area boundaries was < 2% of grand total and was focused primarily directly north of P- Town and in the NGOM. These tables do not include VMS hours from outside of SAMS areas. 2

3 Data used Source: B. Galuardi (GARFO) Data is combined scallop fishery VMS pings from April, May, and June of FY Sum of polls x time (30 min/poll) = total hours Maps aggregated at 3 nm squares. Minimum 20 hours in each square. 2-5 kt speed filter applied. All data within state waters were masked. VMS hours were summed by SAMS area using Zonal statistics tool (ArcMap 10.5). 3

13 Key points Georges Bank: ~ 55% of total open-area effort directed in SE parts (i.e. CL2-S- EXT and SF SAMS) No effort within NF SAMS area Very little effort in SCH, slightly less than effort north of P-Town (outside SAMS) ~92% of NLS-S effort < 70 m depth, but some fishing occurred in slightly deeper water Mid-Atlantic: Roughly 40% of total effort in Mid-Atlantic No effort in DMV SAMS Roughly 35% of total open-area effort in NYB and LI SAMS Some fishing directly outside of BI SAMS (along SE boundary) MAAA effort most concentrated in southeast HCS, in ET-Flex along northeast boundary 13
