2 c D PO ER PRESSES OPEN BACK INCLINABLE The SIXTY SERIES of C leveland Inclinable Open Back Presses is adapt ed for a great variety of operations in the field of sheet metal work. They are ruggedly and accurately constructed throughout and embody all of the latest and best features which our wide experience has shown to be essential to economical production and low upkeep. Welded steel construction is an outstanding feature of Cleveland design. Steel plate is uniform throughout. The structure cannot be weakened by inclusions, blow holes or cold shuts lying beneath the surface. Then too, welded steel type construction makes it possible to eliminate unnecessary weight and material is placed at the exact spot where it is needed. There is also greater freedom of design, not limited by considerations of mold construction. Furthermore, the construction of the frames of Cleveland Inclinable Open Back Presses is such as to permit free access of material from front to back and right to left. This design, coupled with the fact that the body of the Press may easily be set in an _inclined position, makes them particularly suitable for various types of dies or where it is desired to make use of the gravity feature for the discharge of the finished pieces. These presses can be furnished in a wide range of standard sizes and capacities. Specifications which cover the regular equipment on standard presses can be found on page 6. To meet special requirements, it is sometimes necessary to modify the standard specifications. CONTROLS This control box features a three way switch for: ( I l Continuous operation, ( 2 l Inching -- used in die positioning, and ( 3 l Once, press will rna ke one cycle. An arrangement of electrical controls, which will give the operator instant command of every press function is standard equipment on all Cleveland machines. Key locks are used to assure complete safety. CUSHION This Cleveland 150 ton capacity press is typical in structure of all Open Back Inclinable presses in this new Sixty Series. These machines range in size from 75 to 200 tons and feature welded steel frames. Streamlined styling highlights this series of presses. Inclinable presses are arranged for pneumatic die cushions. The cushions and all necessary pneumatic piping and controls are considered extra equipment. Ill

When inclined, the work piece may be gravity fed out through the opening in the back of the press. A motorized mechanism for inclining the press is available. 2. DESIGN. These presses embody all of the latest and best ideas in power press design. In des igning these machines the proper distribution of metal has been given careful consideration and ample safety factors have been used to provide for all stresses and shocks to which these machines are subjected. 3. CONSTRUCTION. A Welded Steel frame is featured on all OBI presses. 5 CLEVELAND POWER PRESSES OPEN BACK INCLINABLE A. GIBS. 5 adjustable front and flat rear gibs insure precise slide alignment. They are carefully fitted into place and provision is made for take-up, which eliminates undue play between the gibs and slide. J B. GEAR & PINION. On the "Sixty Series" all main drive gears are made of cast steel and pinions are made of forged steel and heat treated to assure permanent hardness and longer life. Gear guards are provided for the protection of the operator. C. DRIVE. The drive unit on Cleveland OBI presses is easily accessable for adjustment and repair. Clutch, brake and flywheel are conveniently mounted on the back shaft. D. BOLSTER. A plain bolster i s standard o n Cleveland presses. Tslots, extra openings and drilling are quoted as extra. PNEUMATIC COUNTERBALANCE An air counterbalance is standard equipment on Cleveland Inclinable presses 150 tons and heavier. The counterbalance is used to offset the weight of the dies and slide. Air Tanks In most cases this achieves better press performance. It is recommended that a counterbalance be used on presses having a stroke equal to or exceeding the diameter of the crankshaft. UPPER CONNECTION BOX TYPE SLIDE The standard slide illustrated here offers two distinct advantages in slide design, box-type construction and barrel type adjustment. The box-type slide offers longer slide ways and greater distance between front and rear gibs than is found on conventional slides, thus providing protection against tilting from off center loading and reducing die wear. This slide also offers barrel-type adjustment. The adjusting screw is always supported, even when at its lowest position. This keeps the screw from bending. The complete disengagement of all idle friction surfaces eliminates draw, unnecessary wear, heat and assures longer friction life. This minimum friction factor allows the clutch temperature to remain slightly above room temperature, thus assuring no excessive heating. FRICTION BRAKE UNIT The Cleveland clutch-brake unit is approximately one-fourth the weight of a conventional disc friction clutch of equal capacity. This light weight assures considerable savings in the horsepower needed to operate the clutch. The lightness and design of the parts contribute to quicker starting and stopping.
