3 CROWN UPRIGHTS BASE CONSTRUCTION FEATURES CROWN The welded steel crown distributes the forces generated during the work cycle, by properly supporting the main bearings and thus preventing deflection of the crankshaft. UPRIGHTS The uprights are designed and constructed to eliminate deflection, as the operation is being performed. They are machined in pairs to assure precise matching and the square of uprights to bed is accurately maintained. Each one is located in proper position by six large keys. These box type uprights are available, as welded or cast steel. BASE All welded steel bases are designed to withstand the forces generated by the most severe work load. They provide a maximum amount of surface contact for the bolster plate and uprights. Each base is arranged for die cushions and holes are drilled in the feet for the purpose of bolting the machine to the floor. CONSTRUCTION FEATURES CLEVELAND Straight Sided Double Crank presses embody all of the latest and best ideas in power press design. All sizes are o f the four piece type of construction consisting of a Crown, Two Uprights, and Bed, rigidly held together by four massive tie rods. All dimensions are to J.I.C. Standards, unless otherwise specified. 3

4 DRIVE CRANKSHAFT GIBS TIE RODS DRIVE Double crank presses are ava ilable with single gear or double geared arrangement and with sing le or double end drive. CRANKSHAFTS are made from alloy steel forgings and machine ground to a fine finish. The crankshaft pin diameter is in proportion to the main shaft diameter. All shafts are normalized. GIBS The extra long, carefully fitted gibs allow ample bearing surface for the slide, even when at the extreme end of the stroke. Provision is made for take up, which eliminates undue play between the gibs and the bearing surface of the slide. TIE RODS These four massive tie rods are designed to assure a minimum amount of deflection. 4

5 LUBRICATION SYSTEM CUSHION COUNTERBALANCE KNOCKOUTS DOUBLE CRANK designed for the 60's ''PRESSING" NEEDS The slide on double crank presses has a barrel type adjustment. A magnetic brake and reversing controls is standard on presses 150 tons and heavier. Special attention is directed to the long bearing surfaces for the sliding head, insuring accurate guidance throughout the entire stroke, thereby providing longer die life. LUBRICATION SYSTEM Cleveland Double Crank Presses are arranged for the installation of a manually operated lubrication system. This type dispenses oil or grease to the various parts requiring lubrication. An automatic system, activated by a timing mechanism, is also available on these presses. Gears running in oil can be furnished as an optional feature. CUSHIONS All Cleveland presses are arranged for pneumatic die c~o~sh ions. The cushions, air manifold parts and certified surge tank are extra equipment. Pictured here are two single stage, self-contained units with a single top plate. This particular cushion is operated without the use of a surge tank. COUNTERBALANCE The pneumatic counterbalance is standard on all double crank presses, 150 tons and heavier. KNOCKOUTS Standard presses are arranged for cross bar knockouts, but are exclusive of knockout parts. Knockout pads are provided, both front and rear. 5

6 GEARS BEARINGS CONTROLS BOLSTER SELECTION CHART GEARS The main gear and intermediate gears are made of cast steel. All pinion gears are made of forged steel and heat treated to assure permanent hardness and longer life. Gear guards are provided for the protection of the operator. BEARINGS All bearings in Cleveland presses are carefully fitted to provide smooth operation. Geared presses are equipped with anti-friction bearings on the drive shaft and flywheel shaft. The main frame bearings are bronze bushed. CONTROLS An arrangement of electrical controls, which will give the operator instant command of every press function, is standard equipment. The press control cabinet is mounted on the press upright, unless otherwise directed. BOLSTER A plain bolster is standard on all Cleveland presses. T-slots and drilling are quoted as extra. Dimensions are in accordance with J.I.C. Standards. 6 It is important to remember in selecting a press that these machines are built in over one hundred sizes and the fact that they can be furnished with die space, bed area, stroke and distance between uprights to suit particular requirements, makes them available in an unlimited number of combinations.
