3 Crane Rail Systems L.B. Foster offers a complete line of crane rail and accessories for a variety of industrial applications including overhead cranes, gantry cranes, portal cranes, AS/RS systems, stadium roofs, stacker/reclaimer cranes and rail mounted tower cranes. We currently supply crane rail in weights of 12 lb. up to 175 lb., generally in lengths of 30 ft., 33 ft., 39 ft., 40 ft., 60 ft. and 78 ft., depending on the weight of the crane rail section: 12 lb. 4 Rail Size and Section Crane Rail A specialty rail, mainly used for overhead crane runways and gantry cranes. Lighter sizes (below 40 lbs.) are used in amusement park railways and for underground mine trackage. Crane rail differs from railroad rail in two respects: The base width is always equal to the height of the rail (exception 135 lb. crane rail). L.B. Foster Company will supply joint bars with the exact fasteners and crane stops to meet your specifications. You can depend on complete-package deliveries to your plant with all material ready to install. How to Order Heavy crane rail is stocked in 39, 60 and 78 foot lengths and drilled to the standards listed in the above table. Standard joint bars are 34" long and drilled to match. In ordering to standard, simply specify the rail section and number of 39, 60 and 78 foot lengths required, allowing for one short length in each run to provide staggered joints. Specify number of pairs of matching joint bars, special heat-treated machine bolts and spring washers. Where crane runway installations require special rail and joint bar lengths, or special drilling, L.B. Foster shops are well equipped to fabricate to meet your exact requirements. In ordering, specify drilling (including required dimensions A through H in the table above) and lengths of rail and joint bars. 19

Foster Rail Clips are available in 8 designs to conform to the bases of each of the crane rail and tee rail sections, and to fasten them securely to the runway girder. 21 Crane Accessories Crane Stops, Hook Bolts and Rail Clamps Crane stops are welded and shaped steel plates, prefabricated in sizes to fit all crane rail and tee rail sections, and conform to standard crane wheel diameters. They are easy to handle and install: just fit over the rail, insert filler blocks and bolt through rail web. L.B. Foster stocks all prefabricated components for fast, accurate assembly to your specifications, and for very prompt deliveries. To order, simply specify rail section, elevation of holes above rail base and diameter of crane wheels. Design 400 Crane Stop For use with rail sections up to 85 lbs. ASCE, this stop is an excellent choice for applications involving light to medium weight cranes. The 400 design can be ordered as shown or produced to a specific wheel contour. Design 401 Crane Stop The design 401 stop is self-tightening, adjustable, and does not require drilling of the rail. The configuration shown can be used on sections from 60 lbs. ASCE up to 135 lbs. crane rail. When required, this design can be modified for use with 171 lbs. and 175 lbs. crane rail. Design 403 Crane Stop This stop features a two-piece design and can be produced to work with all rail sections. The configuration shown is for 175 lbs. crane rail. The 403 stop is your best choice for all heavy-duty applications. C L Pair C L Pair Hook Bolt Drilling Where rail is to be installed with hook bolts, L.B. Foster will drill to your specifications. Bolts are installed in pairs as shown in the diagram and spaced according to capacity of crane. You can get every item needed for crane runway installations in complete package shipments when you order from L.B. Foster Company. Spacing Note: For medium capacity and special crane runway or industrial installations, refer to the New and Relay Rail section for tee rail sections from 12 lb. through 132 lb., to A.S.C.E. and AREMA specifications. Hook Bolts L.B. Foster Hook Bolts are used to fasten crane rail securely to its supporting member. They are bolted through rail web, installed in pairs with alternating hooks reversed, and spaced according to capacity of crane. L.B. Foster can furnish hook bolts in any size, shape or length to meet each individual requirement. L.B. Foster shops are specially equipped for fast, top quality production of hook bolts in any quantity. Facilities provide hot and cold bending to any shape, SAE and special threading and heat treating. Bar stock is carefully specified and adequately carried in all diameters from 1/2" through 1 1/2" to assure prompt deliveries. When you order, specify section of crane rail, size and weight of member supporting rail (and size of cover plate or filler plate, if these are used). Also specify diameter of hook bolts, elevation of holes above base of rail and bolt spacing. Crane Rail Clamps Clamps are designed for use with standard, heavy crane rail sections. They are furnished in sets, consisting of a Clamp Plate and Filler Plate, installed opposite each other, and spaced according to capacity of crane. In ordering, specify rail section and number of sets required. 21

Steel Reinforced Crane Rail Pad The pad is manufactured from wear resistant synthetic elastomer which is unaffected by oil, grease, ozone and exposure to ultraviolet light. The pad incorporates bonded steel strip which is encapsulated in the synthetic elastomer. Molyneux steel reinforced pad is for heavy duty crane applications.
