These instructions explain how to install the Smartbox Mount Kit. This kit provides the components necessary to support mounting Smartbox units on your Great Plains planter. The kit does not include the Smartbox system itself, nor does it include the speed sensor (typically radar) required by the Smartbox monitor. Inventory the contents per the Kit Parts ist on page 8. Although this kit can be installed before you have the Smartboxes, Great Plains advises not undertaking this upgrade until all components are at hand. eview these instructions, and note which steps apply to your planter model. or example, the Center Section steps apply only to the YP2425. eview the instructions provided by AMVAC, taking note of where to merge those instructions with these. Mount bracket (4) as close to air pipe support as possible. Note: It may be necessary to relocate hydraulic hose support stand. o not relocate row units. Secure support bracket (4) to wing with bolts (35), lock washers (33) and hex nuts (28). Pivot End Wing Support racket (all Models) efer to igure 2 2. Attach the standoff support bracket (4) to ack of toolbar of righthand planter wing. Mount bracket (4) in slot below sequence valve. If this toolbar slot is occupied by a row unit (for example, on 5in row spacing), position the standoff support bracket at the first available position inboard of that. Measure between the two brackets already installed and find two locations approximately 3 the distance from each of them. Align support tube (5) so a distance of 6 inches exists between the planes defined by the end of air pipe support and the support tube jog plate. sing bolts (37), attach support tube (5) to standoff support brackets (4) with elevated end of support tube towards implement center. OCK /23 PT.). 37 Mount the stiffener bar (2) so that it joins the center and right tubes installed in Step and Step. Align the end of each tube with first bend in the bar. Note: The bar mounts on top of the tubes, and the bend in the bar is down, to maintain clearance from cylinders during planter operations. igure 2 Center Section Tube Stiffener 2524 Secure the bar to the tubes with the bolt (37) and nuts (3). 4. Adjust the location of the outer support arm to keep it centered under the tube. Tighten the nuts at the arm base. 5. epeat Step 3 and Step 4 for the left tube. 2/2/ M

Prepare Smartboxes for Installation epending on planter configuration, some or all rows may require installation of meter splitters before mounting the Smartbox units on the new toolbar tubes. ind your planter in the following table and note where splitters (if any) are used. Select: one (6) 4322H, (SMATOX METE ITTE WMNT), twelve (25) 824C, (HHCS /42X3/4 G5), twelve (32) 847C, (WASHE AT /4 SAE PT), and twelve (23) 863C, (CIP TYPE NT /42 SET). 9. Insert all bolts (25) through flat washers (32). 2. Insert a clip nut (23) at each of the fastener openings in the top of the splitter (6). 10 Smartbox Mount Kit Mount Smartbox rames efer to igure 5 (which illustrates normal backoftube mounting) The Smartbox frames mount to the new tubes with a pair of clamps (8), 3 8 in long bolts (27), 3 8 in short bolts (26), and flange lock nuts (3) provided in the mount kit Most of the clamps are placed on the ack side of the tube, but on the YP225 and YP625, two (pair) must be placed on the ront side of the tube. 8 or model YP2425, skip to Step igure 5 Typical rame Mount YP225 and 625 NearPivot Mounting efer to igure 6 ue to clearance from other components, the four innermost Smartboxes cannot be placed directly over the row units they serve, and must be to the outside, with meter hoses canted inward. Identify the four Smartbox assemblies with meter exit ports biased eft or ight and set them aside from the assemblies with ports pointing ack. Slip the shorter end of a clamp (8) over the bolt (26) and add a flange lock nut (3). Put only a few turns on the nut. 8 igure 7 NearPivot Mounting Position the frame about 4in from the end of the innermost end of the new tube, or directly next to the air pipe support plate. 28. Insert a 4in bolt (27) in the slotted hole ➃ just forward of center on each side of the frame, and then down through the hole in the clamp (8), and add a flange lock nut (3). Put only a few turns on the nut. 29. There are two procedural differences from mounting the innermost frames: 33. Insert a 4 in bolt (26) in the slotted mounting hole just forward of center on one side of the frame. Slip the shorter end of a clamp (8) over the bolt (26) and add a flange lock nut (3). Put only a few turns on the nut. ➄ Position the frame on the tube and against the jog plate ➃. 35. Insert a 4in bolt (27) in the forward slotted hole ➄ of the frame, and then down through the hole in the clamp (8), and add a flange lock nut (3). Put only a few turns on the nut. 36. epeat Step 33 through Step 35 for the other side of the frame. 37. Note: Whether the entire center section will have four or six Smartboxes total, the tube between the cylinders always has two. Note: Meters may need to have one or both exit ports biased eft or ight. Consult the table on page 8 before installing base container/[splitter]/meter assemblies. There is some additional flexibility in placement on the tubes, so review where each is to go. it might be useful to mark the centerline of each proposed position with masking or painting tape. or unitary mounts, position as close as possible to directly above the row unit to be served. or split mounts, position as close as possible to halfway between the row units to be served. epeat Step 49 through Step 54 until all frames are mounted: ➄ efer to igure Select: one Smartbox frame, two (8) 4339, (SMAT OX HO OWN CAMP), two (27) 82223C, (HHCS 3/86X4 G5), two (26) 8279C, (HHCS 3/86X /4 G5), and four (3) 8329C, (NT ANGE OCK 3/86 PT) 8 3 igure 23 Outboard Wing Mount Insert a 4 in bolt (26) in the slotted mounting hole just forward of center on one side of the frame. 15 Installation Instructions 5 Install Tanders efer to igure 24, which depicts two variations of Tbander The Tander (39) is the distribution nozzle for the Smartbox system. It mounts under the row unit, through a dedicated pair of holes at the hinge point between the opener and the press wheel assembly. The Tander assembly consists of four parts: (39) 87655C (TANE) (2) 6 (TANE TE) (22) 826C (CAMP WM V #5 SS (.44.7)) (34) 8585C (PIN COTTE.86 WIE IA) If your application requires a longer nozzle on the T bander, an extension boot is available as Great Plains part number 865C. epeat Step 55 through Step 58 for each row unit served by a Smartbox meter. efer to igure 24 and igure Attach Tander tube (2) to Tander (39). Slide either end of tube fully down over neck of T ander. Note grooves ➃ for cotter pin, but do not attach cotter pin at this time. 56. Place clamp (22) over neck of Tander, and position above groove ➃. Tighten clamp. 57. Insert Tander assembly through holes from beneath row unit. 16 6 Smartbox Mount Kit Great Plains Mfg., Inc. Attach elivery Hoses elivery hoses connect the exit ports of the Smartbox meters to the Tanders. Although your kit includes one hose (38) for each meter/ Tander, these hoses are a common length which is long enough for sideshifted mounts near machine center. This makes them too long for most outboard row units. It will be necessary to trim some length from most hoses. o this after attaching them to the meters, at Step 63. Attach Hoses To Meters epeat Step 57 through Step 62 for each meter. efer to igure Select: one (38) 86358C, (SGS HOSE 22 IS), and one (22) 826C, (CAMP WM V #5 SS (.44.7)) 6. Slide a clamp (22) over the end of a hose (38). nscrew the worm drive if the clamp does not fit loosely on the hose. 6. Slide one end of the hose (38) fully onto the exit port of the meter. 62. Adjust the position of the clamp to be 3 8 in from the end of the hose, and tighten worm drive. o not overtighten. Trim Hoses to ength efore beginning these steps, determine which hoses go to which row units. This is particularly important for 5in planters, where only the corn row units are served by a Smartbox. 63. Temporarily place the lower end of each hose over its Tander tube at the row unit. Start with the outermost rows. At the innermost rows, the hoses are likely to cant inward as they descend. 64. aise the planter. The row units need to be at their lowest position in order to determine the shortest hose length. or each row unit, repeat Step 65 through Step 62: 65. ift the hose off the Tander tube. 66. etermine the shortest length that allows the hose to reach the meter. 67. Place the hose clamp (24) over the Tander tube (2). 7.
