Ag Leader Technology Combine Installation Figure 3. Recommended location for 2.5 hole IMPORTANT make sure there are not any hydraulic lines or electrical wires running underneath the cab in the location of the hole before doing any drilling. If there are cables or wires present, it is recommended to temporarily remove them until the hole has been drilled. 7. Plug the 25-pin connector of the cab cable into the monitor and begin routing it down the cab post. Use the provided adhesive-backed cable clamps to keep it secure. 8. Route the cab cable to the floor and then back towards the right rear corner of the cab in the space that will be concealed by the floor tray that you removed in step Pass the 24-pin connector of the cab cable down through the hole you just cut in the corner of the cab floor as shown in Figure Install a grommet (1/2 I.D. x 1-3/8 P.H.D.) around the cab cable. 11. Install the cable and grommet into the floor plate before securing the floor plate to the cab floor (The grommet will be a tight fit in the floor plate. It might be helpful to apply liquid soap to the grommet to serve as a lubricant). 12. With the cable and grommet installed in the floor plate, position the floor plate around the hole in the cab floor such that the gap between the grommet and the edge of the hole in the cab floor is minimized April

Combine Installation Ag Leader Technology Figure 4. Hole cut in cab floor 13. Mark the locations of the four holes in the corner of the floor plate with a marker and then center punch them. 14. Drill the four holes using the included #19 drill bit. 15. Secure the floor plate to the cab floor using the included #10 x 3/8 self tapping screws. 16. Pull the cab cable up into the cab until the large 24-pin connector is up tight against the bottom of the grommet. It may be necessary to secure a zip tie around the cab cable just above the grommet to keep the cab cable from sliding back down. 17. Any excess cable should be looped and secured in the area that will be concealed by the floor tray. 18. Before reinstalling the floor tray, a small notch will need to be cut into the front end of the tray to allow the cab cable to pass between the cab post and the tray. 19. After the notch has been cut, reinstall the floor tray. 20. Under the cab, install the distribution cable onto the end of the cab cable by mating the round 24-socket connector of the distribution cable to the 24-pin connector of the cab cable. 9-6 April 2003

Ag Leader Technology Combine Installation Installing Power Cable Parts required for this procedure: Power cable (large yellow fuse holder and ring terminals on one end) Cable ties Step-by-Step Procedure 1. Using a voltmeter, locate a 12V power stud on the underneath side of the cab as shown in Figure 5. There are two of them and they are both located several inches forward from the hole where the cab cable passes through the cab floor. Figure 5. Power studs under cab 2. Remove the nut on the stud with full time 12 volts, then install the terminal that is on the power cable s positive wire (the one with fuse holder). CAUTION: To prevent an electric shock or burns from arcing electricity, do not let your wrench contact other metal parts when installing power wire. 3. Attach the ground terminal of the power cable onto a nearby ground stud (approximately 1 foot back from the power studs). 4. Connect the opposite end of the power cable to the matching connector of the distribution cable April

Combine Installation Ag Leader Technology NOTE: All of the connectors on the distribution cable are different, so it is impossible to connect the cables incorrectly. Simply match up mating connector types. 5. Loop and securely tie any excess power cable in a position under the cab where it will not be subject to rubbing against sharp edges or moving parts. Installing Header Height Sensor Parts required for this procedure: Header height sensor assembly with integral cable Arm assembly (threaded rod with nuts, lock washers and S-hook) Extension spring with S-hook and 5/16 in. cap screw with lock nut. Two 5/16 x 1-1/2 in. cap screws with 15 flat washers and two lock nuts Cable ties Step-by-Step Procedure 1. Install the threaded rod in the hole in the header sensor pivot shaft, such that approx. 1-in. of rod is protruding through hole in shaft. Use a nut and a lock washer on each side of the shaft to secure the rod to the shaft. The threaded rod extends to the left as you look at the pivot shaft of the sensor with the cable at the right. 2. Hold header sensor up against a support member under the platform to the right of the cab as shown in Figure 6. NOTE: Header sensor must be mounted with open end of U-shape frame down, cable towards rear of combine and pivot shaft towards inside or the left of combine. 9-8 April 2003

Ag Leader Technology Combine Installation Figure 6. Header sensor mounting location 3. Position the header sensor as shown in Figure 7. Figure 7. 12 Combine Installation Ag Leader Technology 4. Mark the locations for the top two holes of the sensor housing on the support member. 5. Center punch and drill the holes using the provided 11/32 drill bit. 6. Mount header sensor to support member with 5/16 x 1 in. cap screws provided. Install one washer under the head of each cap screw and one washer under each lock nut. 7. With the feeder house fully raised, mark the position required for an S-hook anchor to be mounted to the top of the shield that is secured to the feeder house (The lower end of the spring should be 3 to 4 in. behind the upper end of the spring with feeder house fully raised). 8. Drill a hole in the top of the shield using an 11/32 drill bit. 9. Attach an S-hook to the shield using a 5/16 x 1 in. bolt and lock nut. 10. Determine the required number of chain links needed to get a good range of motion out of the header sensor. Attach chain to the S-hook of the shield. Use pliers to crimp the S-hooks so the extension spring and chain cannot unhook. Note: If required, hold sensor pivot shaft with a wrench across the flat sides. Bend the threaded arm near the pivot shaft so that the pivot shaft is in its spring centered position with the feeder house fully raised. 11. Connect header sensor cable to distribution cable. Loop and tie any excess cable in a position to keep it away from sharp edges or moving parts April 2003

Ag Leader Technology Combine Installation Installing Ground Speed Cable Parts required for this procedure: Ground speed cable (identified by tag at the end with one connector) Cable ties Step-by-Step Procedure CAUTION: To prevent death or injury to you or others, set the parking brake and engage the feeder house cylinder lock before proceeding. 1. Locate the ground drive transmission mounted behind the front axle. The best way to access the transmission is to come in from the front under the feeder house. 2. Locate the ground speed sensor on right end of the ground drive transmission. 3. Install the end of ground speed cable that has two connectors between existing wiring harness and ground speed sensor. 4. Route ground speed cable along an existing harness up to the right rear corner of the cab where the distribution cable is located. 5. Tie cable securely at 12 to 18 in. intervals. 6. Installing Elevator Speed Cable Parts required for this procedure: Elevator speed cable (identified by tag at end with two connectors) Cable ties Hole saw (1-3/8 ) Grommet April

Combine Installation Ag Leader Technology Step-by-Step Procedure 1. Locate the elevator speed sensor on the bubble up auger drive shaft in the grain tank as shown in Figure 8. Figure 8. Elevator speed connection in grain tank 2. Install the end of the elevator speed cable that has two connectors between the existing wire harness and low shaft speed sensor. Ensure you have the elevator speed cable, not the ground speed cable. 3. Route the cable forward along an existing harness to the front of the grain tank and then left along the wall toward the center of the tank. A hole will need to be cut in the front of the grain tank wall using a provided 1-3/8 hole saw. A grommet will be installed to allow the elevator speed and flow sensor cables to pass through. See Figure 9 for the recommended location. 4. After drilling the hole in the grain tank, pass the elevator speed cable through the hole and route it down towards the distribution cable under the cab. Note: The flow sensor cable will also pass through this hole, so do not install the grommet yet. 5. Connect the elevator speed cable to the distribution cable. 6. Secure the cable under the cab with cable ties so it will not be damaged by moving parts April 2003

Combine Installation Ag Leader Technology Installing Grain Flow Sensor and Elevator Back Cover Parts required for this procedure: Grain flow sensor Elevator back cover Six 1/4 x 5/8 in. cap screws and Nylock nuts 9/32 in. drill bit Flow sensor cable (identical 9-pin connectors on both ends) Grommet (1/2 I.D. x 1-3/8 P.H.D.) Cable ties Eight 5/16 x 1 in. bolts The new back cover will allow you to obtain the required 1/2 in. or less clearance, between the tip of the paddles and the inside of the elevator housing. With the existing back cover, you can only get 1-1/2 in. clearance due to mechanical adjustment limitations of the top shaft. Step-by-Step Procedure 1. At the top of the clean grain elevator, remove the existing top cover as shown in Figure 10. NOTE: The back cover is curved and about 2-1/2 feet long. It forms the back of the elevator housing at the top. 2. Remove existing back cover by removing eight 5/16-in. bolts, (4 bolts on the left side, 4 bolts on the right side of elevator just below top of elevator). 3. Loosen or remove drive belt for the clean grain elevator so grain elevator paddles rotate freely. 4. Install the new back cover using the provided 5/16 x 1 in. cap screws and lock washers. 5. Move the paddle chain until a paddle is at the top of the elevator. Ensure paddle is straight up and down April 2003

Ag Leader Technology Combine Installation Figure 10. Existing Elevator Back Cover to Remove 6. Adjust both adjusting screws as shown in Figure 11 to raise the top shaft to the position where there is only 1/2 in. clearance between the tip of the paddle and the inside of the new back cover. Lock the adjusting screws in this position. Figure 11. Top shaft adjustment screws April

Combine Installation Ag Leader Technology NOTE: You may have to disconnect the paddle chain to allow for the top shaft adjustment. If so, see steps 1 & 2 of Installing Elevator Adjuster on page IMPORTANT: Failure to complete this adjustment will reduce the accuracy of the monitor. IMPORTANT: Ensure the top shaft is level. Unequal adjustment of the two bearing holders will result in premature bearing failure or severe sprocket wear. 7. Install decal which says Do Not Adjust, Use Lower Adjuster on the left side of clean grain elevator housing by the sliding bearing holder (clean the housing of dirt and oil so the decal will adhere properly). IMPORTANT: You should never adjust the top shaft of the grain elevator again. If you do, you will lose your weight calibration accuracy and will have to recalibrate the monitor. 8. With black load cell toward the front of the combine, place the flow sensor assembly on top of clean grain elevator. 9. Align the inside edge of the flow sensor plate with the inside edge of the elevator head as shown in Figure 12. The flow sensor will overlap slightly on the front, back and outside edges of the elevator head. Figure 12. Flow sensor in position on elevator head 9-16 April 2003

Ag Leader Technology Combine Installation 10. Ensure the flow sensor is positioned such that the slots in the front and back of the flow sensor plate can be secured to the flange at the top of the elevator head. With the cover held in this position, drill the two holes on the side of the cover using the provided 9/32 drill bit. 11. Install the provided 1/4 x 1 in. cap screw with lock nut in each of these two holes to hold the cover firmly in position. Then drill the remaining four holes in the ends of the cover and install the remaining cap screws and lock nuts. NOTE: The elevator drive belt will be tightened after installation of the Elevator Adjuster in the next procedure. 12. Connect either end of the flow sensor cable to the flow sensor. 13. Route the flow sensor cable the same as the elevator speed cable along an existing harness over to the hole you cut in the front of the grain tank. 14. Pass the flow sensor cable through the hole and down towards the distribution cable under the cab. 15. With the elevator speed and flow sensor extension cables passed through the hole, install a grommet over both cables. It may be necessary to trim the corrugation in order to get both cables to fit through the grommet. 16. Insert the grommet into the hole in the grain tank wall. 17. Use cable ties to secure the flow and elevator speed cables every 12 to 14 in. inside grain tank. 18. Loop and tie any excess cable under the cab away from moving parts April

Combine Installation Ag Leader Technology Installing Elevator Adjuster The lower elevator adjuster must be installed at lower end of the clean grain elevator. This provides an alternate method of adjusting chain slack, so the top shaft of the elevator remains in a fixed position. IMPORTANT: You MUST install this adjuster. If you don t, your grain weight calibration will change every time you move the top shaft to adjust slack in the elevator chain. IMPORTANT: If the elevator chain and top drive sprocket have several years of use on them, it is recommended that they be replaced at this time. If these parts are changed at a latter date, it WILL affect the calibration of the monitor. Parts required for this procedure: Lower Elevator Adjuster assembly 1.25-S bearing (same as existing bearings) Elevator boot plate Half-link for chain Step-by-Step Procedure 1. Turn the clean grain elevator paddle chain until the connecting links are accessible at the bottom of the elevator. 2. Split the chain by removing a connector link or by disconnecting one end of a half-link. Note: Some machines may be equipped with a ladder that attaches to one of the bearing flange bolts. If so, the next few steps will explain how to modify the support member. If no ladder is present, skip to step #7 and ignore steps 9, 10, 11 & 14 of this procedure. 3. Center punch the tube that braces the ladder behind the clean grain elevator, on its centerline, about 1 inch inside the outer flange of the lower elevator boot. 4. Use the provided 13/32 drill bit to drill through the tube only (You will also need to drill through the elevator boot in a later step). 5. Remove the 1/2-inch nut holding the flattened end of the tube to the lower-left 9-18 April 2003

Ag Leader Technology Combine Installation bolt of the bearing flange. 6. Pull the tube off of the bearing flange bolt and bend it downward slightly to improve the accessibility of the bearing and flanges. 7. Remove bearing and bearing flanges. 8. Remove plate attached to lower boot as shown in Figure 13 and install replacement plate using the same hardware. Figure 13. Lower boot 9. Reposition the ladder tube to the original location and drill another hole through the lower boot using the hole in the tube as a guide. The hole will go through both the new plate and the elevator boot. 10. Bend the ladder tube down so the hole in the boot can be filed square to accommodate a 3/8 carriage bolt. The file is provided. 11. Cut off the tube about 1 inch to the right of the centerline of the hole drilled in the tube. 12. Loosely install bearing flanges and bearing onto the Lower Elevator Adjuster, using provided three 3/8 x 1 in. carriage bolts. 13. Mount the Lower Elevator Adjuster loosely to the new plate on the lower boot housing with four 3/8 x 1-1/4 in. carriage bolts. Ensure the adjuster slides April

Combine Installation Ag Leader Technology freely over the entire length of the slots in the adjuster. Note: It is possible for the cross auger flighting to come into contact with the trough when the lower adjuster is in the lowest position. If contact occurs, remove a half link from the chain. 14. Bend the ladder tube back up to align the hole with the hole in the elevator boot, install the 3/8 x 2-1/4 carriage bolt from the inside-out, with enough flat washers between the boot and the tube to take up the space, and install a lock washer and locknut on the bolt to hold the tube to the elevator. 15. Re-connect lower chain at the bottom of elevator. If required, add one or more half links to allow chain to be joined. 16. With lower auger shaft suspended by elevator chain, tighten all bolts on the lower adjuster. 17. Re-install or re-tighten the elevator drive belt Installing Elevator Mount Moisture Sensor A complete set of installation instructions specific to the moisture sensor is included with the Elevator Mount Unit. Please refer to those instructions to correctly install the Elevator Mount Moisture Sensor. Final Inspection Installation is now complete. Do a walk around of the combine and verify the following: All cable connections have been made. Excess cable has been tied out of the way, so there is no interference. All tools have been removed from the combine. All cap screws and carriage bolts are tight April 2003

Ag Leader Technology Combine Installation Operational Checkout for PF Series Refer to the Display Items section in the Operation Section for instructions on how to display different items on the screen. Step-by-Step Procedure 1. Start engine. 2. Turn the monitor power switch ON and verify that the monitor turns on properly. A field and load should be displayed at the top. 3. Display Elevator Speed on the screen. Refer to Vehicle Setup instructions in the Setup Section and set the elevator pulses/revolution under the Vehicle Setup screen to: 6 if 1995 or later model year, 7 if 1994 or previous model year. 3a. Verify that elevator RPM stays at zero with the separator OFF. 3b. Engage the separator and verify the monitor measures elevator RPM. It should be between RPM at full engine speed. NOTE: On some combine models, the header must be engaged to get an elevator speed signal. If you do not get an elevator RPM reading, engage the header drive. 4. Display Ground Speed on the screen. Move the combine slowly to verify the monitor measures MPH at low speeds (below 1 mph). NOTE: MPH will NOT be accurate, because the monitor has not yet been calibrated to your combine. 5. Start the separator with the combine at rest and verify that the monitor reads 0.0 MPH. 6. Display Head Height on the screen. 7. Lift the head and verify the head height number increases. Lower the head and verify the head height number decreases. 8. Display Temp on the screen and verify that there is a temperature reading. The temperature may be off slightly because it has not been calibrated. Refer to the Setup Section of the Operator s Manual to adjust the monitor to your combine April

Combine Installation Ag Leader Technology Operational Checkout for YM 2000 Step-by-Step Procedure Refer to General Description in the Setup Section of the Operator s manual for a description of the key. 1. Start Engine. 2. Flip the monitor power switch ON and verify that the monitor turns on properly. (a) The top display should show F1 L1 (b) The lower-left display should show SOYBEANS. (c) The lower-right display should show 0.0 AV/B/A. 3. Push the FLOW key twice to display Elevator RPM. (a) Verify that elevator RPM stays at 0 with the separator and header OFF. (b) Engage the separator and verify that the monitor measures elevator RPM. It should be between 400 and 450 RPM at full engine speed. NOTE: On some combine models, the header must be engaged to get an elevator speed signal. If you do not get an elevator RPM reading, engage the header drive. 4. Move the combine slowly to verify that the monitor measures MPH at low speeds (below 1mph). NOTE: MPH will not agree with the combine s monitor, because the yield monitor has not been calibrated to your combine. 5. Start the separator with the combine at rest and verify that the monitor reads 0.0 MPH. 6. Place the feeder house at about mid-height. 7. Place the AREA COUNT switch in the UP position. 8. Select STOP HEIGHT on the top display. 9. If the red AREA COUNT light is ON, increase the stop height displayed on the top line (using the UP ARROW key for the top display) until the light goes out April 2003

Ag Leader Technology Combine Installation 10. If the AREA COUNT light is OFF, decrease the stop height displayed until the light comes on. 11. Verify that the AREA COUNT light goes out as the head is dropped slightly below the original position and comes on as the head is slightly above the original position. NOTE: Use small up and down head movements for this check. If you use large motions, it may appear that the head moves too far before the light changes, because there can be up to a 1 second delay before the monitor gets to the point in its program cycle where it checks header height. 12. Check for proper connection of the moisture sensor as follows (a) Turn On the Yield Monitor (b) Set MOIST = AUTO under the MOIST key. (c) Press the MOIST key five times to display temperature, which should show a number within a few degrees of the actual ambient temperature. (d) If you know the temperature in the area of the moisture sensor accurately, you can adjust the temperature readout with the lower-left UP or DOWN ARROW keys. (e) If you do not get a reasonable temperature reading (it will indicate 20 DEG F if the sensor is not connected), recheck the connections. Call Ag Leader Technology at if you have a problem and cannot find it. NOTE: You cannot get a moisture reading until there is grain flowing through the combine. Also, you will only see the AVG% display when there is no grain flow April
