Combine Installation Step-by-Step Procedure 1. Mount the monitor unit in the u-bracket and assembly it to the post bracket using the hardware provided. NOTE: If installing a YM2000, PF3000 or PF3000 Pro monitor, mount the u- bracket in the same position on the post bracket. 2. Hold the monitor and post bracket under the ventilation duct to determine the exact position where you will want to mount the monitor. Be sure to position the monitor so that the keys will be easy to reach during combine operation. 3. With the post bracket in this position, mark the position of two of the 1/4 in. holes in the post bracket. 4. Center punch and drill up through the bottom of the vent duct at the marks. 5. Mount the post bracket to the vent duct using the 1/4-20 x 1 in. bolts provided. 6. Re-assemble the u-bracket and install the monitor unit. Routing Distribution and Power Cable through Cab floor Parts required for this procedure: Power cable (the one with the yellow inline fuse holder) Distribution cable (the one with 7 electrical connectors on 8 inch long wires) Cab cable (large diameter gray cable with rectangular 25 pin connector matching the connector on the bottom of the monitor) Pencil and center punch 1-3/8 in. hole saw (provided) and electric drill Square file from lower elevator adjuster installation kit 1-3/8 in. split plastic grommet Stick-on snap-open/closed cable clips Cable ties Alcohol pack (provided) and paper towels (not provided) October

Combine Installation Ag Leader Technology Step-by-Step Procedure 1. Look under the right-front corner of the cab to see if there are any obstructions or wiring which must be avoided when making a hole in the cab floor for the distribution cable. 2. Pull back the floor mat at the right-front of the cab to expose the metal cab floor. 3. Center punch the metal floor near the right-front corner of the cab where a 1-3/8 in. hole will be cut for the distribution cable. Be sure to place the punch mark more than 3/4 in. from the inner edges of the angle irons that sit on top of the floor plate along the front and side of the cab, so that the 1-1/2 in. outside diameter of the plastic bushing will sit flat on the floor plate. 4. Use the hole saw provided to cut a 1-3/8 in. hole through the cab floor. File off any sharp burrs from the edge of the hole. 5. Hold the distribution cable (the one with 8 in. long wires and several connectors) with the large connector up and feed the smaller connectors on the other end down through the hole in the cab floor one at a time. Start by feeding the largest connector through, then the next largest, and so-on, down to the smallest connectors. Be careful not to cut any of the wires on the edge of the hole as you do this. 6. Install the split plastic bushing over the wires that pass through the floor and snap the bushing into the hole in the cab floor, to prevent the edge of the hole from cutting the wires. 7. Cut the floor mat to provide an opening for the wires and place the floor mat back down. 8. Open the door on the front of the control console and feed the end of the power cable which has the 3-pin connector down through one of the holes in the cab floor under the console. 9. Locate the large electrical relay which is mounted on the inside of the console door. Mount the ground terminal of the power cable on one of the 1/4 in. studs which attaches the relay to the frame of the combine. 10. Attach the power terminal (the one on the wire with the yellow fuse holder) to the 5/16 stud on the relay which is toward the outside of the combine. 9-4 October

Combine Installation NOTE: This terminal should be full-time 12 volt power, so that the Yield Monitor has power with the combine's key-switch either on or off. 11. Push any excess length of power cable that is inside the cab down through the cab floor and close the console door. 12. Attach the cab cable to the monitor unit. NOTE: The connector is D-shaped and will only fit one way. Also, be careful not to cross-thread the thumbscrews that hold the cable to the monitor. They should turn easily. If you have difficulty getting them started, pull the connector out a little bit and use the thumbscrews to pull the connector back up to the monitor. IMPORTANT: Never used force to mate electrical connectors. If the connectors do not push together easily, they are not aligned properly. Use of force on connectors will result in connector damage. 13. Determine how you want to route the cab cable from the floor to the monitor and loop, and tie with a cable tie, any excess length of cab cable. 14. Snap several cable mounting clips onto the cab cable and determine where you will want to attach these to the right-front cab window. 15. Thoroughly clean the areas of the window where you want to attach the cable clips. NOTE: The window must be extremely clean and completely dry for the cable clips to adhere properly. 16. Remove the backing from the cable clips one at a time and press them firmly to the surface of the window. 17. Connect the cab cable to the distribution cable by mating the 24-pin plug to the 24-pin receptacle. 18. Figure 2 shows the cab cable connected to the distribution cable, with excess length of cab cable looped and clipped to the right-front cab window. October

Combine Installation Ag Leader Technology Cab Cable Figure 2. Cab cable connected to Distribution cable at cab floor Installing Ground Speed Cable Parts required for this procedure: Ground speed cable (identified by tag at the end with two connectors) Cable ties Step-by-Step Procedure CAUTION: To prevent death or severe injury to you or others set the vehicle parking break before beginning this procedure. 1. Remove the trash screen from under the ground drive transmission between the front wheels of the combine. 2. Locate the ground speed sensor on the right end of the 4-speed ground drive transmission. 3. Install the end of the ground speed cable which has two connectors between the existing wiring harness and the connector on ground speed sensor. 4. Tying the cable securely at inch intervals, route the ground speed cable along the existing wiring harness. Follow these cables through the large opening in the right side of the separator, then up and forward to reach the distribution cable. 9-6 October

Combine Installation Installing Elevator Lower Adjuster The lower elevator adjuster must be installed at lower end of the clean grain elevator. This provides an alternate method of adjusting chain slack, so the top shaft of the elevator remains in a fixed position. IMPORTANT: You MUST install this adjuster. If you don t, your grain weight calibration will change every time you move the top shaft to adjust slack in the elevator chain. IMPORTANT: If the elevator chain and top drive sprocket have several years of use on them, it is recommended that they be replaced at this time. If these parts are changed at a latter date, it WILL affect the calibration of the monitor. Parts required for this procedure: Elevator adjuster assembly 1 in. bearing (same as existing bearing) Metal drill template 13/32 in. transfer punch, 13/32 in. drill and 5/16 in. square file (all provided) 3/8 in. or larger electric drill Half-link for elevator chain (provided) Elevator speed sensor wheel retainer kit Step-by-Step Procedure 1. Remove the drive chain for the clean grain elevator (on the right side of the combine) so it can be turned by hand. 2. Turn the clean grain elevator chain until the connecting links are accessible at the bottom of the elevator. 3. Split the chain by removing a connector link or by disconnecting one end of a half link. 4. Remove the bearing and bearing flanges on the lower boot of the elevator. 5. Install the metal drill template, as shown in Figure 3, using the three bolts used to retain the bearing flanges. October

Combine Installation Ag Leader Technology Figure 3. Drill Template installed on Clean Grain Elevator. 6. Use the 13/32 transfer punch to make a center punch mark in the center of each of the four square holes near the outside corners of the template. IMPORTANT: To prevent damage to the chain paddles, ensure the paddles are out of the path of the drill bit before drilling the holes. 7. Using the 13/32 in. drill bit, drill through the elevator housing (leave the template installed) at each of the four corner holes of the drill template. 8. Use the square file to file the corners of the holes to match the drill template. 9. Remove the drill template. 10. Use the three 5/16 x 1 in. carriage bolts provided with the adjuster to loosely install the bearing flanges and bearing onto the slide adjuster. 11. Using the four 3/8 x 1-1/4 in. carriage bolts provided, mount the slide plate to the clean grain elevator housing in the orientation shown in Figure 4. Tighten the nuts by hand, leaving them loose enough so that you can still move the slide plate by hand. 9-8 October

Combine Installation Figure 4. Lower Adjuster on Clean Grain Elevator 12. Raise the slide plate until the auger just touches the top of the auger housing. Then lower the adjuster 1/16 in. and tighten the nuts just enough to hold the adjuster firmly in place. 13. Rotate the auger to verify that if no longer touches the auger housing. If it still touches, lower the adjuster until it does not touch. Then fully tighten the nuts on the four 3/8 in. bolts. 14. Re-connect the elevator chain at the bottom of the elevator. 15. remove the elevator speed sensor from its original mounting plate and modify the mounting plate by cutting off the upper-front and lower-front corners at a 45 degree angle 1/8 in. from the corners of the slots for the 1/4 in. carriage bolts that mount the speed sensor to the mounting. 16. Re-mount the speed sensor on the mounting plate, positioning the ears of the sensor housing where they were originally positioned. 17. Mount the speed sensor on the two forward flange bolts as shown in Figure 4. NOTE: The following two steps can be omitted if the shaft protrudes through the bearing far enough to provide positive locking of the bearing collar. 18. Make a center punch mark in the center of the end of the elevator shaft and use the #F drill bit to drill a hole 1 in. deep in the end of the shaft. Then use the 5/16-18 tap provided to tap the hole 5/8 in. deep. 19. Install the speed sensor wheel which is mounted on the eccentric bearing locking collar onto the shaft and rotate it with a punch to lock it. Then install the 5/16-18 x 1 in. capscrew with flat and lock washers to guarantee positive retention of the speed sensor wheel. October

Combine Installation Ag Leader Technology Installing Elevator Speed Cable Parts required for this procedure: Elevator speed cable (identified by tag at the end with two connectors) Cable ties Step-by-Step Procedure 1. Install the end of the elevator speed cable which has two connectors between the existing wire harness and the elevator speed sensor. 2. Tying the cable securely every in., route the cable back and up along the existing sensor wiring, and then forward along the hydraulic tubes on the left side of the combine. 3. Route the cable under the cab from the left side to the right side along the hydraulic lines that run under the center of the cab, and then forward to reach the distribution cable. Installing Elevator Top Deflector Parts required for this procedure: Elevator deflector assembly (deflector, clamp plates, bolts, washers and nuts) Ruler and wrenches Step-by-Step Procedure 1. Remove the top and side covers from the housing that encloses the top end of the clean grain elevator. 2. Remove the small cover that slides onto the top of the clean grain elevator housing. 3. Remove the drive chain for the grain tank cross-auger. 4. Adjust the top shaft of the elevator up to obtain proper tightness of the elevator chain. NOTE: The chain is properly tightened when you cannot pull it away from the bottom sprocket, but it will side freely from side to side on the bottom sprocket. NOTE: Be sure that the top shaft is level. Verify this by measuring the distance between the bearing holders and the angle-irons holding the adjusting screws October

Combine Installation NOTE: To ensure the position of the top shaft cannot change by loosening of the nuts on the adjusting screws, install 3/8-16 nuts as locknuts on top of the original self-locking nuts. 5. Rotate the top sprocket until a paddle is pointing straight up and measure the clearance between the top of the paddle and the top of the elevator housing as shown in Figure 5. Figure 5. Measuring Paddle Clearance at Top of Clean Grain Elevator 6. If the measured clearance is between 3/4 in. and 1-5/8 in. proceed to install the elevator deflector as described below. If the clearance is outside of this range, add or remove a half link from the elevator chain and readjust the top shaft. 7. If the clearance is within this range, install the deflector and clamp plates as shown in Figure 6, with just enough washers between the lower clamp plate and the deflector to obtain 5/16 3/8 in. clearance between the top of the paddles and the bottom of the deflector plate. NOTE: The lower clamp plate is 3/8 in. thick, while the top one is 1/4 in. thick. NOTE: the red washers, which have a larger hole, should always be installed against the deflector to provide clearance for the square of the carriage bolts (unless no washers are required between the lower clamp plate and the deflector). NOTE: The deflector assembly can be installed by loosely assembling it and sliding it over the flanges of the elevator housing from the front. October

Combine Installation Ag Leader Technology NOTE: While checking for proper installation of the adjuster, install only the standard nuts on the carriage bolts, and tightened them only hand tight, so that the assembly can be moved on the elevator housing. NOTE: Be sure to push the deflector assembly back to touch the back side of the elevator. After doing this, reach into the elevator and feel the curved end of the deflector to make sure that the transition from the elevator housing to the deflector is smooth. NOTE: Verify proper paddle clearance by using a 5/16 in. and a 3/8 in. bolt as clearance gages to measure the top paddle clearance. You can also feel the clearance with the tips of your fingers as you rotate a paddle from the back to the top of the sprocket. If the top clearance is set properly, you should feel that it remains constant, or increases only slightly, as a paddle rotates from the back to the top side of the sprocket. 8. When proper paddle clearance is obtained, fully tighten the nuts and install nylock nuts on top of the standard nuts to lock them, as shown in Figure 6. Figure 6. Elevator Deflector and Clamp Plates in Top of elevator 9. Install the decal which says Do Not Adjust, Use Lower Adjuster on the lip of the grain tank wall, beside the slot for accessing the inside adjuster screw (be sure to clean the surface so that the decal will adhere properly) October

Combine Installation Installing Elevator Speedup Sprocket Parts required for this procedure: 18 tooth #50 roller chain sprocket (provided) Grease gun Step-by-Step Procedure 1. Remove the 1/2 in. capscrew which retains the slip clutch preload spring on the right end of the lower clean grain auger shaft. 2. Pull the existing 11 tooth (double size teeth, equivalent to 22 tooth standard sprocket) sprocket off of the auger shaft, and clean grease and dirt from the shaft. 3. Install the 18 tooth sprocket in place of the original sprocket, ensuring the three pegs on the slip clutch fit in the holes on the flat side of the sprocket. 4. Re-install the preload spring, retaining washer and capscrew. 5. Re-install the elevator drive chain, removing a half link if required. 6. Grease the new sprocket using the zerk mounted in the sprocket. Installing Grain Flow Sensor Parts required for this step: Grain Flow Sensor Six 1/4-20 x 5/8 in. cap screws, Nylock nuts and wind nuts 1/4 in., 17/64 in. or 9/32 in. drill bit and electric drill Flow Sensor cable (identical 9-pin connector on both ends) Cable ties and adhesive tie-down clips Step-by-Step Procedure 1. Place the flow sensor assembly on top of the clean grain elevator with the load cell/impact plate assembly toward the front of the combine. 2. Align the sensor cover front-to-rear with the housing around the top of the elevator. 3. Position the sensor cover to provide about 1/16 in. clearance between the wall of the grain tank and the inside edge of the cover. October

Combine Installation Ag Leader Technology 4. With the cover held in this position, drill through one of the holes at the front and one of the holes in the hinge at the rear of the cover. 5. Install a cap screw with wing nut in the front hole (wing nut on top of the sensor cover) and a capscrew with a nylock nut in the rear hole (nut under the flange of combine sheet metal) to hold the cover firmly in position. 6. Drill through the remaining four holes in te cover and install the remaining capscrews. 7. Connect one end of the flow sensor cable to the connector on the flow sensor. 8. Using the adhesive tie-mounts and cable ties, route the flow sensor cable along the lip of the grain tank wall with the end of the flow sensor cable near the hinge at the back of the sensor cover (so that the cable will not be pulled when the cover is rotated up). 9. Route the flow sensor cable down over the front edge of the grain tank along the cab wall. Leave it hanging loose at this time, since it will be tied down when the moisture sensor cable is routed along the same path. Figure 7. Grain Flow Sensor installed October

Combine Installation Installing Moisture Sensor (in Almaco holding tank) Step-by-Step Procedure Parts required for this procedure: Moisture Sensor 1. Inspect the welded joints between the tapered bottom of the tank and the square tube that forms the outlet of the tank. If the edges of the tapered bottom pieces extend over the tube opening at the right-front and left-rear corners, use the square file from the lower adjuster kit to remove any protruding edges of the tank botttom at these two corners. 2. Drop the small end of the moisture sensor mounting plate into the square tube, with the blade of the moisture sensor pointing toward the outlet opening of the elevator housing, as shown in Figure 8. Figure 8. Moisture Sensor installed in Almaco holding tank October

Combine Installation Ag Leader Technology 3. Route the moisture cable up over the right-front corner of the weight tank and tie it to the flow sensor cable near the top edge of the main grain tank. 4. Use the #19 drill bit and self-tapping screw provided to mount the moisture sensor ground wire to the holding tank as shown in Figure 9. Figure 9. Moisture Sensor wiring installation 5. Route the moisture sensor cable down along the flow sensor cable, tying them together every in. 6. Route both cables forward and under the cab along the elevator speed cable that was routed earlier October

Combine Installation Final cable connections and tie down Step-by-Step Procedure Parts required for this step: Cable ties 1. Fully lower the feeder house to provide access to the area where the distribution cable comes through the floor of the cab. 2. Connect all of the cables to the distribution cable as shown in Figure 10. NOTE: all of the connectors on the distribution cable are different, so that you can not connect the individual cables incorrectly. Simply match up mating connector types. 3. Loop and tie any excess length in any of the cables and tie the cables securely up under the cab away from any moving parts. Figure 10. Distribution Cable connections prior to final tie-down October

Combine Installation Ag Leader Technology Final Inspection Installation is now complete. Do a walk around of the combine and complete the following: All cable connections have been made. Excess cable has been tied out of the way, so there is no interference. All tools have been removed from the combine. All cap screws and carriage bolts are tight. Operational Checkout for PF Series Step-by-Step Procedure Refer to the Display Items section in the Operation Section for instructions on how to display different items on the screen. 1. Start engine. 2. Turn the monitor power switch ON and verify that the monitor turns on properly. A field and load should be displayed at the top. 3. Display Elevator Speed on the screen. Refer to Vehicle Setup instructions in the Setup Section and set the elevator pulses/revolution under the Vehicle Setup screen to: 6 if 1995 or later model year, 7 if 1994 or previous model year. 3a. Verify that elevator RPM stays at zero with the separator OFF. 3b. Engage the separator and verify the monitor measures elevator RPM. It should be between RPM at full engine speed. NOTE: On some combine models, the header must be engaged to get an elevator speed signal. If you do not get an elevator RPM reading, engage the header drive. 4. Display Ground Speed on the screen. Move the combine slowly to verify the monitor measures MPH at low speeds (below 1 mph) October

Combine Installation NOTE: MPH will NOT be accurate, because the monitor has not yet been calibrated to your combine. 1. Start the separator with the combine at rest and verify that the monitor reads 0.0 MPH. 2. Display Head Height on the screen. 3. Lift the head and verify the head height number increases. Lower the head and verify the head height number decreases. 4. Display Temp on screen and verify that there is a temperature reading. The temperature may be off slightly because it has not been calibrated. Refer to the Setup Section of the Operator s Manual to adjust the monitor to your combine. Operational Checkout for YM 2000 Step-by-Step Procedure Refer to General Description in the Setup Section of the Operator s manual for a description of the key. 1. Start Engine. 2. Flip the monitor power switch ON and verify that the monitor turns on properly. (a) The top display should show F1 L1 (b) The lower-left display should show SOYBEANS. (c) The lower-right display should show 0.0 AV/B/A. 3. Push the FLOW key twice to display Elevator RPM. (a) Verify that elevator RPM stays at 0 with the separator and header OFF. (b) Engage the separator and verify that the monitor measures elevator RPM. It should be between 400 and 450 RPM at full engine speed. October

Combine Installation Ag Leader Technology NOTE: On some combine models, the header must be engaged to get an elevator speed signal. If you do not get an elevator RPM reading, engage the header drive. 4. Move the combine slowly to verify that the monitor measures MPH at low speeds (below 1mph). NOTE: MPH will not agree with the combine s monitor, because the yield monitor has not been calibrated to your combine. 5. Start the separator with the combine at rest and verify that the monitor reads 0.0 MPH. 6. Place the feeder house at about mid-height. 7. Place the AREA COUNT switch in the UP position. 8. Select STOP HEIGHT on the top display. 5. If the red AREA COUNT light is ON, increase the stop height displayed on the top line (using the UP ARROW key for the top display) until the light goes out. 6. If the AREA COUNT light is OFF, decrease the stop height displayed until the light comes on. 7. Verify that the AREA COUNT light goes out as the head is dropped slightly below the original position and comes on as the head is slightly above the original position. NOTE: Use small up and down head movements for this check. If you use large motions, it may appear that the head moves too far before the light changes, because there can be up to a 1 second delay before the monitor gets to the point in its program cycle where it checks header height October

CombineInstallation 0 8. Check for proper connection of the moisture sensor as follows (a) Turn On the Yield Monitor (b) Set MOIST = AUTO under the MOIST key. (c) Press the MOIST key five times to display temperature, which should show a number within a few degrees of the actual ambient temperature. (d) If you know the temperature in the area of the moisture sensor accurately, you can adjust the temperature readout with the lower-left UP or DOWN ARROW keys. (e) If you do not get a reasonable temperature reading (it will indicate 20 DEG F if the sensor is not connected), recheck the connections. Call Ag Leader Technology at if you have a problem and cannot find it. NOTE: You cannot get a moisture reading until there is grain flowing through the combine. Also, you will only see the AVG% display when there is no grain flow. *** October
