1 UTP-10 Universal Tachograph Programmer & Tester QUICK START v.1.01 I. Device description Powering and AMT connector ( photo sensor ). 2. Signal connector. 3. LCD display. 4. Turning the device on One turns the device on by pressing the C button, and turns it off by pressing and holding the C button After turning the UTP-10 tester on, such information as the type of device and its firmware version as well as the current date and local time will be displayed on the screen. The UTP-10 will go to menu no. 1 after the autotest is complete. UTP-10 can be powered in two ways: - by 4 R6 AA 1.2V NiMH or NiCd accumulators or any four R6 1.5V AA batteries - by the power supply with the 5-30V input Voltage; 0.1A DC via the F cable 2. Working with UTP-10 tester 2.1 Keyboard, screen and menu The membrane keyboard consists of twenty buttons. The numeric 0,1,2..9 buttons allow to enter digital and alphanumeric values. The. * button allow to enter special characters such as - & /... F1-F4 buttons are used to select the function displayed on the screen: - directly over a given button or - described on the screen in the following form: F1 xxxxx xxx F2 yyyyy yyy... Icon and on the display corresponds to cursor buttons on the keyboard. If these characters are displayed on the screen, it means that the cursor buttons are active and allow to scroll the menu or change a parameter. The M # button enables a quick move to the memory service M#1 M#8 for analogue tachographs and M#1 M#16 for digital tachographs. By pressing the (ENTER) button we enter the edit mode as well as save the edited parameters. The screen of the device is a backlit LCD display, 4 lines 16 alpha-numeric characters each. The UTP-10 menu consists of 4 main menus (Menu-1 Digital tachographs, Menu-2 Programmable tachographs, Menu-3 analogue tachographs, Menu-4 UTP-10 settings). 2.2 First start-up Setting the parameters All parameters settings of the UTP-10 are being done in the Menu 4 These parameters should be set depending on the workshop (i.e.: name of the workshop, w measuring method), user liking (i.e.: pressing buttons signalization), adjusting to the region (i.e.: date-time, zone, summer-winter time) One needs to set the following parameters (see the menu tree): - wdi w choose the measurement method - wdi d set the length of the measuring track on which the measurements will be taken - wdi i select the number of converter impulses used for calculating the w coefficient for vehicles equipped with mechanical tachographs such as UTP-10 quick start v1.01 1

2 - wdi Lm select the method of calculating the average wheels circumference (does not concern the wdi-w option, when the rolling roads method has been chosen) - Tp program the user tests for analogue tachographs, according to own procedures or those used in a given country (availability of the Tp option depends on the region/country that the UTP-10 tester has been designed for) - SvN enter the name of the workshop 5 lines with 16 characters each (it will appear on printed labels and reports) - sys UTC set the current date and time - sys con set the proper contrast and backlight of the display. - sys ES F1 setting option UTP auto-off F2 setting option turning buttons sound on / off WARNING! The sys-con and sys-es options will influence the speed of discharging the accumulators and therefore the UTP-10 operating time 2.3 Average wheels circumference calculating method If one selects F3 Rolmatt or F4 Actia in the menu 4 wdi menu, then the average wheel circumference in the calibration for digital tachographs menu can be entered only by rolling the wheel method. However if one selects F1 wi (whole impulses) or F2 wii (fraction impulses-this method is more accurate than wl) or F4 HRR (option) in the menu 4 wdi w menu, then the average wheel circumference can be entered by one of the methods specified in the menu 4 wdi Lm menu. These are as follows: - F1 ØL = L end L strt rolling the wheel on gauge ribbon method - F2 ØL = 2*pi*r measuring method of entering measured wheels radius - F3 ØL = manual entering average wheels circumference manually 3. Operating on digital tachograph WARNING! Familiarize yourself with the binding regulations in your country regarding details and the order of activities performed while inspecting-calibrating digital tachographs. 3.1 Exemplary inspection and calibration of the digital tachograph using the UTP-10 tester. Select the tachograph that you want to make the calibration for using the F1-F4 buttons in the menu 1. Making tachograph tests - press F3 - tst - One needs to make all tachograph tests (keyboard, display, printer...) and confirm or decline the correctness of the implementation. - Card readers test should be done by shifting the workshop card and entering PIN. - The 1000m test is done on a rolling roads and therefore does not concern workshops that measure the w coefficient on the measuring track. - If all tests results are positive one can move to the calibration phase (phase order to be established). Calibrating tachograph - press F1 cal - for SmarTach tachograph select: F1 full calibration with pairing converter or F2 only pairing converter. - Time info is the first screen of the calibration it is the date and time that is set in the tachograph. WARNING! 1. Confirming the values of individual parameters in the cal menu does not mean saving them in the tachograph they are stored only in the UTP-10 memory. Saving all parameters is done after selecting F1-YES option in the last step of calibration. In that moment the date and time is also transferred from the UTP-10 to tachograph. 2. None o the parameters with the info in its name can be edited. In order to move to next parameters one should use the up/down cursors - Second screen allows to set three parameters: - RMS setting a country where the calibration has been done, - CP Code Page it should always be 1 which is the Latin set of characters. - VRN Vehicle registration number. - VIN is the next calibration parameter, it always consists of 17 alphanumeric characters. - Odometer The next parameter is the odometer. It can be edited and saved by pressing the Enter button and entering any value. - Speed author. The next parameter is the Max speed which is setting the speed that the tachograph will inform the driver or the vehicle computer about its exceeding. - Tire size Tires size one needs to enter the size of tires. - Tire circumf. Wheels circumference (see also point 2.3). - w constant - One can enter it manually or it will be saved automatically after performing the w measurement. In order to move to the measuring menu, one needs to press the F1 button. After the measurement is done we leave the function by pressing the C button and the screen with constant w is displayed again where the cursor is flashing under its value. All one needs to do is press the ENTER button in order to overwrite the old value by the w measured value. UTP-10 quick start v1.01 2

3 - k const. info is an information about the constant k value. For the programmable tachographs, its always w=k, - Next cal. date. According to law, the calibration should be done every 24 months. After pressing the Enter button, two years in advance date will be displayed. Pressing the Enter button again confirms that date. - MS pairing. There is no need to pair the converter if it hasn t been exchanged or the tachographs wasn t replaced. - Save calibr. F1 -YES / F4 - NO. Function std - press F2 std Select F3 DTC Service in order to read and delete all errors. If for some reason one of the errors cannot be deleted, one should check the error table what does a given error mean, remove the cause of that error and try to delete the errors from tachograph again. The DTC (Device Trouble Code) errors description can be found in ISO document which is the seventh part of the document. It can be purchased on the following website: The report from making tests can be printed or sent to the Tachomatt Red on PC. 3.2 Printouts One can print measuring labels directly from UTP-10 to tachograph using the thermo-transfer printer. One needs to use the P1U cable. It is also possible to print the calibration report on the dot-matrix printer. Ask your distributor about the details or the MATT sales department. 4. Additional information WARRANTY The manufacturer grants a 12-months warranty period for the device, starting from the date of its purchase. Do not dispose the device to the trash! Used devices should be disposed at the point of electrical and electronic equipment waste collection in your place of residence. The manufacturer hereby declares that the UTP-10 device complies with the requirements of the 89/336/EEC (EMC) regulation providing it is used according to the instruction manual.
