1 DREXEL UNIVERSITY RESEARCH LAB AND CORE FACILITY MASTER PLAN STATUS REPORT MEETING OCTOBER 10, 2013
2 Fume Hood Capacity Study in Bossone, CAT and LeBow Just ge(ng started. Review available documenta7on to become more familiar with the 3 buildings. Working with JVE on reviewing mechanical systems capacity. Survey the exis7ng condi7ons to determine lab usage. Iden7fy areas that have infrastructure to support lab ac7vi7es. Review poten7al lab layouts. Iden7fy phasing implica7ons on current building occupants.

5 3101 Market Street: Vibratory Study* Lower Garage Level: The lower level of the garage is the best place to have vibra7on sensi7ve equipment. Because it is founded on grade, it will meet a more stringent criterion than 2,000 micro- inches per second. It currently meets a range of micro- inches per second. Upper Garage Level: The 2 nd floor of the garage is the most suscep7ble to walking and exterior (train & truck) vibra7on, and as such will most likely need structural interven7ons if this area is to be used for sensi7ve equipment. It currently meets a range of 1,943 7,259 micro- inches per second. 2 nd Floor Infill: The 2 nd floor por7on of 3101 to the south of the corridor does not meet the 2,000 micro- inches per second but is close. Because of this, structural modifica7ons may not be needed but localized vibra7on buffering of equipment or specialty air tables may be the solu7on. It currently meets a range of 1,341 1,591 micro- inches per second. *Based on a preliminary study completed by Keast & Hood/Vibra- Tech 10/4/13

25 Engineering & Chemistry Common Ground Discussion 1. Where is the loca7on of the Faculty Offices? Are they in 3101 or not? 2. What is the rela7onship of the office to the lab and the grad- students? 3. Are there opportuni7es for sharing under the umbrella for IExE? 4. Would you ever pursue joint grant applica7ons? 5. What Core Facili7es are required? 6. Are some of the labs generic to allow for the swing from Engineering to Chemistry? 7. Do we make some labs Wet- Generic Labs? 8. Is this Lab- Hoteling or dedicated labs to individuals? 9. Ins7tute Model vs. Individual Model?
