10 Second Stage of Manufacture A modified vehicle model can get a full approval based upon an exis+ng OEM approval. Called a Second Stage of Manufacture IPA (SSM) The OE Manufacturer s vehicle is used as a SARN. The new evidence that must be submised is relevant only to the modifica+on Mandatory for Motorhomes, ambulances, fire trucks. The state registries don t understand SSM. They oten request an engineer s cer+ficate for them.

11 Sub-Assemblies A few safety and compliance cri+cal subassemblies can get an ADR approval. Called a Sub-Assembly Reference Number SARN: Trailer founda+on brakes Trailer air brake kits Trailer suspensions Bus base chassis The trailer brake SARNs are shown on the trailer ID plate.

Machines also need an import license. The Imports Group within DIRD (Dept. Infrastructure) administers the import approvals system. The Imports Group transmits the VINs (and Chassis Numbers) of all vehicle imports to the NEVDIS Group
