2 Key wheel alignment angles Toe / total toe The angle between midplaneof tire and symmetry axis (rear wheels) / geometric axis (front wheels). With the adjustment of toe the tire gets more grip to the road, thus the vehicle gets a stable and parallel straightforward drive. Without positive or negative toe, the tires are either falling to the inside or outside. The vehicle is not constantly driving straight on, the steering starts to shimmy. Also the tires would etch on the road and wear off much faster as normal. Camber The angle of the wheel when viewed from the front of the vehicle. camber effects a stable chassis driving straight on without the steering to shake. Caster The angle of the wheel when viewed from the side of the vehicle. A positive caster anticipates the shimmy of the steering and provides at the same time (together with king pin) that the steering wheel is getting back into straight position. 2

3 General The market for wheel aligners is divided in the following segments (Prices to the workshop) Robotic non touch Street-price app Low sales numbers but increasing number of suppliers (Beissbarth, Corghi, Cemb, Nussbaum) 3D wheel aligners Street-price app Prices are decreasing due to low cost products from Asia CCD Standard Street-price app CCD Low Cost Street-price app NUSSBAUM / ATT is currently only present in the segments CCD Standard and Robotic not touch. The WA 780 is serving the lower market segment in the area CCD and has been included in the product line to compensate for the declining numbers in the segment CCD standard and gain market share 3

4 General The WA 780 is the optimal solution for the independent workshop, which performs only few wheel alignments per day but still requires professional equipment The WA 780 does offer a very good price / performance ratio to the workshop Also in comparison to low cost 3D wheel aligners from Asian production the WA 780 offers a very good alternative The WA 780 is mobile and requires the space only when it is actually used for wheel alignment. If not used it can be easily moved to a place where it will not "interfere 3D wheel aligners do always require app. 1,5 m of minimum space between the cameras and the lift and cannot be moved at all 4

6 Measuring heads The measuring heads are built rugged and compact and weigh only 3.2 kg. The body of the measuring heads is made of a high-precision aluminum casting. The 4 measuring heads include 8 CCD cameras in total as well a an electronic inclinometer and an electronic level The receiver and transmitter are integrated into a compact block The design is done in a way that many vehicles can be measured without the need to use spoiler adapters 6

7 Measuring heads storage All 4 measuring heads are stored together with the wheel clamps and the steering wheel and brake pedal holder on the cabinet In this way the operator can attach the wheel clamps with the sensors in one shot on the rim and saves time in the operation 7

8 8 Sensor wheel alignment With the 4 measuring heads the WA 780 is generating a closed rectangle around the car and measures all relevant values All relevant angels are physically measured by the CCD cameras and the internal inclinometer Contrary to a 6 sensor wheel aligner and 3D wheel aligners also the toe on the rear axle is physically measured and not calculated by the software 8

9 4 point wheel clamps The 4 point wheel clamps that are included in the scope of delivery guarantee that the rim run out compensation is done easily by pushing the car All operations during the rim run out compensation are controlled with one button from one measuring sensor only With the 3 point clamp that is still delivered on some competitors machines the rolling compensation is not possible 9

10 Radio Box / Smart Card Reader The radio box is a compact unit that is combined with the Smart Card Reader. The main Smart Card is positioned in a small compartment that is accessible from the outside, e.g. to perform the data bank update The radio box / smart card reader is connected to the PC via USB, a RS 232 interface is not required The Industrial transmission frequency of 2,4 GHz ensures reliable operation in every workshop. In case 2 wheel aligners are operated in the same workshop a different band can be set separately for each wheel aligner 10

11 Batteries The sensors are powered by rechargeable standard batteries (AA type) The battery pack can be charged either in a standard charger or via the supplied cable. Those cables are standard LAN cables that can be purchased from NUSSBAUM but also in every electronics shop 11

12 Data base The database is a collection of data that are acquired from Autodata and original vehicle data from various car manufacturers The data are categorized in various areas of the world to ensure that the operator in the shop does find the relevant data in the quickest possible way The database contains data from over 20,000 vehicles and is updated 2 times a year. To activate the new database at the beginning of the year a SIM card and a data CD is required Part Number: ASAN In addition to the main database, the operator can also create own vehicles and thus generating a user database 12

13 Operation The WA 780 is easily operated with the keyboard only, a mouse is not required and not included in the scope of delivery The keys used are F2, F3 and F11 as well as the UP / DOWN keys and the ENTER key Below the control area on the screen is shown F2 Gets to the PREVIOUS screen F3 Gets to the NEXT screen Indication of the sensor battery power level F11 Opens the FUNCTIONS screen Indication of the vehicle selected 13

14 Operation With the FUNCTION button in every screen all functions that are related to this screen are available. Below please find some examples for these functions Switch on DEMO Selection of the data bank (Main or User) Selection of the region (Asia, Europe etc.) Enable Jack and hold Check head level Help for the actual screen End of session The load condition of every battery in every sensor is always present to the user 14

18 Calibration The receiver and transmitter of the CCD camera are integrated in a compact block, and this block is already calibrated during its production Due to this compact design of the CCD cameras, a full calibration (calibration by using mirrors) of the measuring heads, as in the WA 970, is not required. Only the zero calibration has to be performed For calibration, no cables are needed to be connected, the calibration works via radio transmission To calibrate the sensors of the calibration stand of WA 970 can be used 18
