2 Wat is a cuboid? In everyday words, we would probably call a cuboid a box. Here are tree cuboids Te amount of space inside a cuboid (box) is called its volume. Volume is measured like tis

3 Find ow many cubes of a known size will fit exactly inside te cuboid. 4 cm We could use a one centimetre cube 1 cm 1 cm 1 cm It will fit exactly 24 times into te cuboid like tis So, te volume of te cuboid is 24 cubic centi. 3 cm 2 cm We would write 24 cubic centi as 24 cm 3

4 We can work out a formula for finding te volume of a cuboid like tis 4 cm Tink of te cuboid as a loaf of sliced bread wit 4 slices. 3 cm Eac slice contains 2 x 3 = 6 cubic centi Tere are 4 slices so te number of cubic centi is 2 x 3 x 4 = 24 cm 3 2 cm Volume = 2 x 3 x 4 Volume = 6 x 4 Volume = 24 cm 3
