2 SAMSUN MAKÝNA SANAYÝ Sa msun Makina Sanayi, SMS, is one of te main suppliers of irrigation, drinking water, waste water, and infrastructure equipment, wit necessary services for design, production, commissioning and assembling since it was establised in Samsun, in ISO 9001 Certification SMS as one of te largest and bestequipped facilities in te manufacturing and casting industries. It is located in a m open, m closed area in te Samsun Industrial Zone, and as an annual casting capacity of tons. In te manual, automatic and resin moulding lines, parts aving weigt between 1 kg to 15 tons can be molded and processed by modern macines. Depending on te standards, product range, application area, and customer requirements, different coating tecniques tat are suitable for drinking water and waste water are applied. Electrostatic epoxy powder paint, double component epoxy paint and bitumen paint applied by a spraying metod on zinc coating are te most widespread applications. Product Certification All products are ydrostatically tested. SMS as te igest capacity pump testing equipment in Turkey were pumps up to 00 kw can be tested. All processes are managed according to ISO 9001: 0 quality management system tat is approved by Bureau Verita s (BV). 4

3 SMS GATE VALVES SMS Resilient Seat Gate Valves Properties Resilient seat gate valve as many advantages against old fasioned metal seated gate valve. Lack of valve pocket for gate seat maintains smoot and unobstructed waterway; eliminates depositing of impurities wic may cause ineffective sutoff and leaking from metal to metal contact in time. Resilient seat contact is easily and perfectly maintained and tis allows quick and perfect cange of gate witout dismantling te valve from pipeline wen te rubber lining is worn out. In turn, wen te metalseated gate valve leaks, it sould be returned to its factory for renewing and precise macining of metal seats, or it sould be trown away. Stainless steel stem aving leftand rolled, ACME single tread wit ISO metric trapezoidal profile per DIN 103; saft end burnised. (Rigtand rolled stem available upon request) Bronze cap for DN 40, Ductile iron for bigger sizes, Screwed to te bonnet. 4 NBR Orings maintain perfect sealing troug te stem; tree of tem in te cap and te last one under trust collar. Te stem is manufactured as one piece. Te polyamide piece were te stem is in touc wit water as sliding properties tat allows te valve to work under low torque values. Besides, te polyamide piece performs impermeability during cap/oring replacement under pressure. Bronze stemnut aving long tread and robustly designed for excellent load distribution to maintain easy and perfect closing action. Ductile iron gate (brass for DN 40 and DN sizes) is totally enclosed wit EPDM rubber lining; ensures bubbletigt seal up to nominal pressure; seats totally in te bonnet for a fully open water passage; vulcanized EPDM rubber lining aving te best quality to maintain prolonged operation life. Ductile iron bonnet bolted to body; takes te wole gate inside to maintain unobstructed waterway wen te valve is fully open. Smoot and unobstucted waterway is free of pockets, cavities and reductions; keeping pressure loss minimum. Ductile iron body robustly designed for reliable operation under excess pressures; produced in different types to connect piping, i.e. wit flanges, spigots and sockets, etc.; aving integral flat legs for easy andling, storage and carrying piping loads. 5

Inside and outside of metal seated gate valves are coated by coal tar epoxy as standard. Oter epoxy colors and fusion bonded epoxy powder coatings are on request. Bot resilient and metal seated SMS gate valves ave been cycletested tousands of times in excess of te required standard and as still maintained a bubble tigt seal and easy closing/opening action. Applied standard tests are ydraulic tests for body and seat. Operating torque test is on request. 15

14 Standard Hydraulic Test Pressures Hydraulic test to: BS 6755, EN , EN , DIN , EN , EN Working Pressure : Body Test Pressure : PN bar, PN bar, PN 25 37,5 bar Seat Test Pressure : 1,1 times operating pressure Tese instructions provide information about SMS gate valves. Tey are for use by personnel wo are responsible for installation, operation and maintenance of SMS gate valves. All safety messages in te instructions are flagged wit an exclamation symbol and te word Caution, Warning or Danger. Tese messages must be followed exactly to avoid equipment damage, personal injury or deat. Safety label(s) on te product indicate azards tat can cause equipment damage, personal injury or deat. If a safety label becomes difficult to see, or if a label as been removed, please contact SMS for replacement label(s). Handling and Unpacking Instructions SMS gate valves ave been packaged to provide protection during sipment, owever, it can be damaged in transport. Carefully inspect te valve for damage upon arrival and file a claim wit te carrier if damage is apparent. Ceck te packing list against te valve received to verify tat te quantities, sizes and materials are correct. If te valve is to be stored before being installed, it sould be protected from dirt, debris and corrosive materials and sould be kept in dry, dark and cool conditions, preferably indoors, out of direct sunligt. If outdoors storage is unavoidable, support te valves off te ground and protect te valves wit a watertigt cover. Do not remove te valve packaging, until necessary for inspection or installation. Store te valve wit te gate in te sligtly closed position to protect te sealing edge. Handling : Failure to lift te valve properly may cause damage. Lift te valve assembly wit slings, cains or cables fastened around te valve body. Lifting devices may be fastened to rods running troug bolt oles in te flanges. Do not fasten lifting devices to te gearbox or te actuator or te gate and never put any lifting devices troug te seat opening. Take care in andling te valve not to damage te parts and painting of valve. Installation Carefully unpack te valve and inspect visually for damage during transport, andling and storage as tis could adversely affect valve performance. Inspect te valve interior and rubber sealing. It sould be clean, free from foreign matter or damage. Be sure te line is depressurized and drained. Be sure of te pipeline media. Proper care sould be taken for protection against toxic and/or flammable fluids. Ceck tat te installation lengt between te pipe flanges is enoug to position te valve witout damaging. Ceck te flange connection boltsnuts and gaskets for proper size and lengt and be sure enoug quantity. Always be sure tat te gate is in te fullclosed position before installing te valve. If practical, actuate te valve troug close/open and open/close cycles to ceck te correct function. Immediately prior to installation, ceck te flanges to wic te valve is to be fastened. Te flanges sall ave a raised face or a flat face. Te sealing face sall be flat, witout burrs, grooves, weld spatters, sarp edges and free from oil. Ceck tat te inside diameter of te flange or pipe bore is not too large as tis will reduce te flange to valve sealing of te gasket face. Tigten te bolts in a crisscross fasion until te valve body (metal) touces te flange face. Do not weld a connecting flange to te pipe wit te valve installed in order to avoid overeating of te rubber sealing. 16

15 Testing Open and close te valve (if possible by and). Clean te pipe interior wit a rinsing fluid compatible wit te rubber lining and process. Connect te actuator (if applicable) to te power supply in accordance wit te user manual of te actuator. Ceck te operation and tigtness wen te system is under (working) pressure. Replacing Saft ORings Altoug SMS Resilient Seat Gate Valves are generally maintenance free valves, water leakage may be occured from saft orings occasionally. Suc a situation te orings sould be replaced. Te replacements of tose are very simple and could be performed witout dismantling te valve from te pipe line and under te pressure. Te order of tis process is as follows: Open te valve till te end and make sure it is fully open position. Remove te bronze (DN 40 DN ) or ductile cast iron (DN DN ) cap over te valve saft by loosing it Replace te gasket and orings Mount te cap to its place and ceck te full tigtness of screw WARNING: Before start to oring replacement process make sure tat te valve is in full open position. Oterwise, wen te cap is opened te saft may move upwards and arm te person performing te process. 17

Replacement for items of SMS valves will be made free of carge if proved to be defective witin suc time. No claim for special or consequential damages, transportation, or labor sall be allowed. Purcaser sall be solely responsible for determining suitability for use and in no event sall SMS be liable in tis respect. Equipment or parts manufactured by oters but furnised by SMS will be repaired or replaced, only to te extent provided in te original manufacturer's warranty to SMS. SMS does not guarantee resistance to corrosion, erosion, abrasion or oter sources of failure, nor does SMS guarantee a minimum lengt of service. Failure of te purcaser to give prompt written notice of any alleged defect under tis guarantee fortwit upon its discovery, or use and possession tereof after an attempt as been made and completed by someone oter tan SMS or an autorized representative to remedy defects terein, or failure to return products or parts for replacement as erein provided, of failure to install, operate and maintain said products or parts according to instructions provided by SMS, of failure to pay te entire contract price wen due, sall be a waiver of all rigts under tese representations. Te foregoing guarantee sall be null and void, if, after sipment from our factory, te item is modified in any way or a component of anoter manufacturer, suc as, but not limited to, an actuator is attaced to te item by valves & controls oter tan an SMS Factory Service Personnel. All orders accepted sall be deemed accepted subject to tis guarantee, wic sall be exclusive of any oter previous guarantee, and tis sall be te only effective guarantee or warranty binding on SMS, anyting to te contrary contained in te purcase order, or represented by any agent or employee of SMS, in writing or oterwise, notwitstanding, including but not limited to implied warranties.
