Hydraulic Bike Jack/Platform - ingeniously-designed tool for flipping bikes onto their sides, usually when you're alone in the shop. Drill Press - a tall upright machine useful for suddenly snatching flat metal bar stock out of your hands so that it smacks you in the chest and flings your beer across the room, splattering it against the Pamela Anderson poster over the bench grinder. Vice-Grips - used to round off bolt heads. If nothing else is available, they can also be used to transfer intense welding heat to the palm of your hand. Mechanic's Knife - used to open and slice through the contents of cardboard cartons delivered to your front door; works particularly well on boxes containing leathers or bike covers. Tweezers - a tool for removing wood splinters. Phone - tool for calling your neighbor Bubba to see if he has another hydraulic floor jack. Snap-On Gasket Scraper - theoretically useful as a sandwich tool for spreading mayonnaise; used mainly for getting dog-doo off your boot. Assistant Chapter Director: I am sure that Spring must be out there somewhere, But it sure is slow to arrive. 4 of us went to the District meeting and found that many chapters are gearing up for the Pa. Rally and more than ready to get out to ride. If you have any suggestion for rides please let us know and check the calendar for up coming events. Rita Gillespie ACD

3 Hello Everyone! Last month, we started talking about GWRRA s Rider Education Program (REP). If you missed it, look up the March newsletter to read about the purpose of the program. To refresh your memory, Level I is all about commitment, and Level II is Education. As they say on many TV commercials, But wait there s more! There are two more levels to REP. Do you have what it takes to up your game in motorcycle safety? The following information is taken from the GWRRA website. Level III: Safety by Preparedness Level III of the REP is also referred to as Certified Tour Rider/Co-Rider. It represents the commitment of the Rider and/or Co-Rider to be prepared in the event of an accident to give aid and possibly save lives. This is done by being knowledgeable in First Aid or CPR and carrying a first aid kit on their motorcycle at all times. It would be wonderful if we could achieve the coveted goal of zero accidents, however, we know realistically, accidents will happen. Because of this, it is important to be fully prepared to lend aid to unfortunate accident victims. It is important to always be prepared to save a life. Level III of the Rider Education Program was developed to deal with such circumstances by recognizing and encouraging proper First Aid or CPR training. CPR (Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation), has been used to save many lives. Being trained to render CPR or First Aid is a tremendous asset to those the REP participant will come in contact with daily. Requirement: Current in Level ll and have taken either First Aid or CPR training. No cost to sign up. Patches available at $4.00 per participant. Receive: "Certified Tour Rider" or "Certified Co- Rider" patch. Level IV: Safety By Enhanced Commitment and Preparedness Level IV is the most prestigious of the REP levels and is referred to as Master Tour Rider/Co-Rider. It represents the highest commitment of the Rider and/or Co- Rider to safe riding and preparedness. This commitment is shown by a demonstrated history of safe miles and current certification in both First Aid and CPR. These Master Tour Riders/Co-Riders are the finest example to everyone of the highest commitment to safe motorcycle operation and preparedness. Level IV of the REP, the Master Tour Rider, was designed for those special caring individuals who desire to "be all they can be" with regards to motorcycle safety. The requirements are more stringent than Level III and require a greater commitment. These individuals are caring, trained and prepared with the experience to back them up. It is realized Level IV is not for everyone, but for those who desire to be of greater service to their fellow man, it is the correct prescription. Why desire to be a Level IV Master Tour Rider? It's a worthy goal. Being prepared to save a life is a high calling indeed! These individuals are shining examples to the rest of the GWRRA membership. Others aspire to practice the same commitment as displayed by those who have attained Level IV. For that reason, because these individuals are ambassadors to the members at all levels, GWRRA provides a special gathering to celebrate the Master Tour Rider commitment each year at the District Rally, Region D Rally and Wing Ding. Requirement: Current in Level lll for one year and have taken both First Aid and CPR training. Have 25,000 Safe Miles and must be committed to the suggested riding with "Proper Riding Gear" at all times. Cost: $35.00 for each participant (Black and Gold patch is available for another $8.00) Receive: "Special Triangular" patch with dark blue border and your individual Master number embroidered on it. Note: all Level Program Patches are also available in "Black and Gold" at a charge of $1 extra per level for levels I, II, and III. So there you have the program structure: Level I Safety by Commitment Level II Safety by Education Level III Safety by Preparedness Level IV Safety by Enhanced Commitment and Preparedness The GWRRA is proud to present the Rider Education Program. We encourage you to think seriously about motorcycle safety and be a participant in the GWRRA Rider Education Program. You should also remember the old cliché, "an ounce of prevention IS worth a pound of cure." Always wear protective riding apparel! If you are ready to sign up for the program, or if you have questions, please contact me at prosemi2017@gmail.com. I will be more than happy to help you. Remember to be seen, and have FUN getting there! Doug Motter PA District Educator

4 Attention Chapter Directors: "GoldWingers Got Talent" "GoldWingers Got Talent" is the Theme for the talent show at the 2018 PA District Rally this May in Uniontown, PA. It will be part of the Friday night festivities on May 18th. We are excited to be the "Hosts" for this year's show and we are looking forward to helping showcase your special talents. As we learned years ago "Everybody's got a talent"! The act can be one person or multiple people or your whole chapter. The more the merrier!!! As in the past few years this is a non-competitive event which gives everyone the ability to sing, dance, tell jokes, do a skit, play an instrument, or some other special talent. Stupid People Tricks maybe? Rules are simple. Family Oriented, Non-Political, Non-Religious. That is it! A sound system is available if you need music and/or a microphone. There is a small stage that is 8 feet deep by 16 feet long about 24 inches off the floor with one step to get on and off. This is a great opportunity to get your chapter involved in something that is just for fun. Use the rest of this winter to get together and make your chapter a part of the rally. Every chapter that has someone taking part in the show will be entered to win a Dairy Queen gift card to be drawn at the end of the show. The gift card will be awarded to the Chapter. So put on your "thinking caps" and plan what you have to offer to entertain your fellow Gold- Wingers. Let's all work together to make this year's show a true extravaganza. We will be reaching out (bugging you) to hear about your plans to participate. Please us with any questions and also if you are planning on being part of the show. We can be reached at dmhartle@comcast.net or by calling us at Looking forward to a fun filled evening with all of you. Dana and Danise Hartle 2017 PA District Couple of the Year

Gasoline is $20 per gallon. Selfdriving cars are becoming dominant. Silicon Valley tech firms and the U.S. Government have collaborated to push society toward a fully-autonomous transportation system and motorcycles are an easy first target in the campaign to ban human-operated vehicles. This is the plot basis for the first season of The Last Motorcycle On Earth, a new and dramatic fictional three-part series (so far) that takes a look into the future and the new world of technology that threatens to destroy a motorcyclist s passion and way of life. There is a culture war on the horizon between Americans who want to drive their own vehicles and those who want to be driven by a robot, says director Eric Ristau. On an engineering level, motorcycles pose enormous challenges to autonomous vehicle technology. We wanted to envision a future where motorcycles have been banned and suddenly every rider is an outlaw. Our current youth culture is largely focused on virtual experiences rather than the tangible, physical stuff past generations were drawn to in this case, motorcycles, cars and expression of personal freedom through travel. More young people than ever are deciding against getting a driver s license and interest in ownership of vehicles by that group is at an all-time low. It is said that the last person to receive a driver s license has already been born, said Ristau.

6 Chapter Q MEC Corner: Knoxville, Tennessee rolling out the red carpet! Knoxville, home of GWRRA's 40th Annual Wing Ding, is situated at the foothills of Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Three Interstates run through Knoxville making it easily accessible! The majority of the events will take place downtown at the beautiful Knoxville Convention Center. Many exciting changes are happening including a completely revamped event schedule with less structure and more fun! Both the association and the city are making some great plans for us! To register or view the We are excited to announce our continued partnership with American Honda as one lucky winner will walk away from Wing Ding as the new owner of the all-new, redesigned Gold Wing! Be sure to register for Wing Ding 40 and get your chance to win. Only so many tickets will be printed and someone will be holding the winner. Will it be you? Richard and Naomi House and Rita Gillespie met with the Warren County Commissioners on Wednesday, April 11, 2018 and they received a Proclomation from the Commissioners proclaiming May as National Morotcycle Association Safety Awareness Month. The commissioners were: Cindy Morrison, Ben Kafferlin and Jeff Eggleston. Why do we get up before dawn and saddle up on a motorcycle when it s 29 degrees? Well, if there s a 2018 Gold Wing (heated seat! And grips!) in your driveway, there is really no other choice but to hit the long road.
