Page 3 Director (continued from Page 1) relationship between the GNW Chapter members and the Emerald City Harley Dealership/Staff. I want this chapter to offer rides and activities which will interest the whole spectrum of members, from the brand new riders to the seasoned veterans. I believe we must continue to recruit new members who have varied interests and views, and might bring suggestions to strengthen our Chapter as a whole. Your Board has plans to offer: a variety of rides, the GNW HOG 21 st Annual Bunny Run, chapter meetings on the first Saturday of each month, music/ entertainment, potlucks, barbeques, ABC s of Touring and mileage competitions, member s picnic and a holiday party! If your heart is truly in making our GNW HOG Chapter the best it can be, please get involved! Please attend the activities and rides, come and listen to music and have a bite to eat on Throttle Thursdays and volunteer, volunteer, volunteer! See you at the 21 st GNW HOG Bunny Run!!! - Brian H.O.G. Mileage Program The H.O.G. Mileage Program is beautiful in its simplicity: You ride, Harley will reward you. Your first award comes at just 1,000 miles! Great Northwest H.O.G. Chapter Mileage Program Because we believe that more is better!, your Great Northwest HOG and Emerald City Harley Davidson are teaming up to give you exactly that - more! More opportunities! More prizes! More fun! Details to come at a Chapter Meeting near you! Ten GNW-HOG members are hiding out above. Be the first to send an to Membership@GNW-HOG.com correctly identifying the member s LAST NAMES (horizontal, vertical, or diagonal) to win a semi-fabulous prize! (If you get stumped, send what you got - you just might win!) Dealership (continued from page 1) allows you to get your drivers license updated to class 3 endorsements. Call us for more details! I would like to thank all the GNW HOG Chapter members for their continued support and GNW HOG Board members for all their hard work in recent months. I know that many of you have put in many hours to make sure that the GNW HOG Chapter thrives and maintains its history and tradition. Thank you for that and I appreciate you more than you think! I would especially like to thank Brian and Kathy Hendricks for their enthusiasm and get er done attitude, Bob Bleiler for his extensive organizational skills and his attention to detail, Billy Bob for his insight on History and his candid talks about the colorful history of the chapter, and Mark McCollum for his creative side and his great ideas about keeping things fresh and exciting. THANK YOU for all that you do! Now let s ride! - Sebastian

Page 4 MESSAGE FROM OUR ASSISTANT DIRECTOR, SECRETARY, EDITOR Kathy Hendricks If everything stays on track, then when you are reading this edition of the HOG Call we will have had our new website launched (if not yet, it will be very soon). I encourage you all to check it out and give suggestions (if any) that you would like to see our website have that it may not have now. We are very grateful to Brian Myers for his efforts in putting together our new website and to Billy Bob for taking over the maintenance of our website. The Bunny-Run will be coming up very soon and there have been some members that have said that they would like to get involved and I would like to take everyone up on that. Please contact me because we could use your help. We really want this event to be just as spectacular as last year, but hopefully it will be better than last year s event. I would like to start putting together bins for donations and startup our fundraising and diaper/wipes drive. Anyway, if any of you would like to get involved with the Bunny Run, MESSAGE FROM OUR HEAD ROAD CAPTAIN Farrow If there s one constant in life, it s change. I don t know who first said it, but I think they got it right. Just a month ago, Mike Arvay was the GNW Chapter s Head Road Captain. No change in the foreseeable future, right? Just a few short weeks later Mike tendered his resignation as Head Road Captain due to changing personal circumstances. Mike has been a member and active in several capacities since 2007: Road Captain, Safety Officer, Assistant Director, and most recently, Head Road Captain. As I have had the privilege of getting to work with and getting to know him better these last few years, please come and talk to Brian Hendricks or me to see about getting involved and helping out. Thank you so very much. For those members that have not been able to attend the Chapter Meetings due to the day and time of the week - please know that you are able to see the meeting minutes on the Forum. The Blast goes out weekly to keep you informed, but the minutes are available to see what you missed in the meeting to stay current with what s going on in our Chapter. One last note, please stay tuned for information on New Membership Orientation meetings - scheduled events where new members can have a chance to meet chapter members, board members, road captains, and ECHD staff. These events will be where new riders and new members can ask questions, learn about our rides, and meet new friends. Interest in the orientations is high and I am looking forward to putting them together! Best Regards, Kathy Hendricks I have learned that Mike loves his GNW Chapter and bleeds Black and Orange for it. I hope you all will join me in thanking Mike for his years of excellent service to this Chapter. His leadership will be missed. Now, although Mike has had to take a step back, he hasn t left the chapter entirely. Hopefully Mike will still be able to find time to attend a few chapter meetings, and more importantly, a few of our chapter rides. Moving forward, I want to thank the Road Captains for showing their faith in me, electing me to be the next Head Road Captain, and making that recommendation to our Director. I will do my best to pick up where Mike left off, leading us forward with service to the chapter first and foremost!

Page 5 North or East? You would think that a seasoned Road Captain and Sweep could make up their minds! Actually, it wasn t near as random as it might sound! Well planned and executed by RC Linda and Sweep Jeff, the ride took us on a nice route through the countryside and ended up at Ixtapa Mexican Restaurant in Sultan. It was good to catch up with old friends and get to know some of our newest members. If you weren t there, you missed a good time!

A Page Out of History Billy Bob Lusk, Historian and Charter Member Bunny Run 1995 This month I thought I d look back on old Hog Call issues and find something to write about. Since the Bunny Run is coming up soon, I took this historical chapter perspective from the May 1995 Hog Call. I ve included a few photos of the event also. This historical reflection goes as follows: The Bunny Riders met at the Barn at about 9:30 in the morning, and had a group photo taken at 10 am. 19 bikes left for the Ryther Children s Center in Lake City. When we arrived, the children were waiting for us outside their cottages. With the Easter Bunny on the lead bike, we did a ride thru the back to the staging area. Page 6 At this point, the kids joined us and we passed out bunnies and a bag of goodies. Photos were taken with the Easter Bunny and on and around the bikes. Some of the bikes were fired up so the kids could sit and feel the Harley Thunder! After about an hour, we departed, with much cheering and thanks, and headed off on the back road to Granite Falls. That took a little longer, due to a wrong turn and a dead end at the NAS radio center. Oops! Back tracking, we finally made it to the Granite Falls Eagles, where we were treated to hors d oeuvres on the house! I d like to thank everyone for providing the bunnies and money for the goodies. Special thanks to the 19 bikes for making it great for the kids. Everyone had a GREAT time. Signed The Easter Bunny I think we ve expanded the goodies we bring and increased the participation since Let s make Bunny Run 2014 the biggest and best yet! Premium Harley-Davidson. There is no other kind. Take a close look at any Harley-Davidson motorcycle you see parked under the neon lights. Premium to the last detail. The Harley-Davidson Street 750 and 500 motorcycles are no exception to that rule. Steel tank and fenders. Paint a mile deep. LED taillight and mini bullet turn signals. Ignition, fork and gas cap locks. Rock-solid belt final drive. Painstakingly tight fit and finish. Intuitive hand controls. Because only a motorcycle we re proud to build is a motorcycle you ll be proud to park on your curb.

Safety First! A Message from your Safety Officer - Jeff Thompson An important repost as we start a new riding season: SPRING CHECKLIST Read Your Owner s Manual: While it may not be the most exciting reading material, knowing the ins and outs of your motorcycle will be helpful in understanding any problems that may arise during a ride. Tires: Check the surface of your tires for cuts, foreign objects, and low tread levels. Also, monitor the pressure in your tires because it can affect the way your bike handles. Fluids: Check your oil, fuel, and coolant levels to prevent your engine from giving out during the middle of your ride. You can look in your owner s manual to find your bike s specific fluid requirements. Lights: Test all of your lights, including your headlights, brake lights, turn signals, four-way flashers, and even the indicators on your dash. Whether you re riding during the Page 7 day or at night, lights make a rider more visible to other motorists. Brakes: Test your front and rear brakes one at a time to ensure they work properly. Without a properly functioning brake system, you will not be able to bring your motorcycle to a complete stop. Horn: Check your horn. It s very important that you have a tool to alert other drivers of your presence, especially if you re in their blind spot while they re changing lanes. Mirrors: Adjust your mirrors so that you are able to see the lane behind you as well as the lane next to you. While you may not be able to rely on other motorists to pay attention to their surroundings, you can use your mirrors to keep track of them to ensure your own safety. Helmet and Gear: Don t let your motorcycle safety checklist end with your bike. Make sure your helmet is approved by the Department of Transportation, free of cracks and damage, and fits snugly on your head. Also, your riding gear should never interfere with any instruments on your bike. Make sure everything fits properly and there are no loose ends that could get caught on your bike.

Page 8 This year we want to encourage you to get out and ride and take photos of your travels as you go. The plan is really simple; we ll be using the H.O.G. ABC s of Touring Contest as a model. The idea is to take pictures according to their rules. It s that easy! At the end of the year (by the November chapter meeting) simply submit a copy of your official Harley-Davidson ABC s of Touring Contest entry form and copies of all the photos that you will be submitting to H.O.G. for their contest. Rules and forms can be found in your 2014 ADVENTURE GUIDE. And the best part - you will qualify for prizes with just five contest points (one point earned for each qualifying photo)! Points 5-25 Points Key Chain Prizes Points Key Chain, Mug Points Key Chain, Mug, & T-Shirt 78 or more points Key Chain, Mug, T-Shirt, & Long Sleeved T-Shirt A drawing for additional prizes - $100 Gift Card, a Free Tire, and a 1k or 5k service - will be held at the Chapter Holiday Party. A chance to win with each 5 points! (Must be present to win)

Membership Memo Bob Bleiler Membership Officer A new HOG Logo was revealed in the November HOG magazine! And unless you ve been living under a tarp hanging off your bike, you knew it was coming and you voted on your favorite option. When voting was announced in the August HOG Newsletter, over 25,000 members voted on the first day! And, in total over 100,000 members helped to choose our new logo. And What does this have to do with membership?. It is one approach to answering the question - We have a great group of people in our chapter and so many great rides and fun activities, so how do we get more people to join our club?. Well that question was the basis for the largest, most global, most customer-led, multi-year research project that HOG has ever undertaken. Over the past several years they collected survey and focus group input from members, non-members and dealers. And one area to improve was in doing a better job of showing the connection between HOG and Harley- Davidson. Many Harley-Davidson riders mentioned that they were unsure if HOG was part of Harley-Davidson (hard to believe heh?). And so when the HOG 30 th Anniversary graphic was created, the design incorporated the Harley-Davidson Bar and Shield. And Wow! What a reaction! Many HOG members shared how cool they thought it was that the Bar and Shield was part of the HOG 30 th graphic. Now the Harley- Davidson Bar and Shield has been incorporated into the heart of the new H.O.G. logo to reinforce that H.O.G. is the Official Riding Club of Harley-Davidson. Page 9 But it does not stop with just the new H.O.G. logo. Other customers mentioned that HOG felt kind of one-size-fits-all and not very customizable - and therefore not very Harley-Davidson. We all know that Harley-Davidson represents freedom, personalization and self-expression. This self-expression comes to life through the one-of-a-kind motorcycles each of us creates and the wide range of Harley- Davidson merchandise that allow us all to tell our unique story. Now we have the new H.O.G. logo, the Heritage H.O.G. logo, and additional H.O.G. graphics on patches. So you are probably asking what you should use on vests and jackets, right? This is where our choices and our individualism come into play! We won t be choosing one back patch that everyone has to wear. We ask you to embrace the Harley-Davidson ideals of individual choice, customization and self-expression. We welcome you to use the new HOG Logo, the Heritage HOG Logo and new alternate HOG Graphics to demonstrate your individuality and to showcase that we welcome all Harley-Davidson owners, and that in H.O.G. each rider is an individual who has the power to represent their club pride in their own way. That s how HOG and our chapter will show that we are becoming better, becoming more flexible, and becoming an even better way to enjoy riding the best motorcycle in the world!

Page st Annual GNW HOG Bunny Run We are getting close to our largest activity of the year which benefits the children and families of Housing Hope. On April 13 th, 2014, we will gather at the ECHD around 9:30am with other HOG Members and guests for a very special day. We will leave the dealership in groups escorted by Road Captains around 10am and head north towards Housing Hope. All of the bikes will gather at a staging location TBD and around 11:30ish, all at once, we will drive our Harleys into the parking lot of Housing Hope. The children and parents will be lined along the entrance and you will see huge smiles on the faces of these families when they hear and see our bikes. There will be activities programmed for the kids, the families will judge are bikes in the best Easter decorated themed bike contest and of course we will deliver all of our donations in the Emerald City trailer. Did I forget to mention that the Easter Bunny will be on a bike leading the entrance into Housing Hope? The 2013 Bunny Run featured just over 80 riders who raised $5, in donations and cash to support Housing Hope families and Tomorrow s Hope Child Development Center. The GNW HOG Chapter #3169 brought in 7,176 diapers, 500 Pull-Ups, and 16,700 wipes, in addition to donations of cleaning products, white products (toilet paper, paper towels, etc). Furthermore, our chapter also donated $3, in cash with about $1,200 of that donation in quarters to contribute to laundry costs for Housing Hope families. Please help us in making this another awesome Bunny Run by dropping off your donations at the Emerald City Harley Dealership. The poster lists the supplies and diaper sizes in need for these families. Housing Hope has challenged us to have 100 riders this year, please mark your calendar for April 13 th to help make a very special day for some families which are not as fortunate as most of us. Thank You!! Brian Hendricks Director-GNW HOG #3169

Page 11 The weatherman might have scared-off a few, but the 17 bikes that converged for the 7th Annual Angel of the Winds ride came through the threat of high wind and heavy rain relatively unscathed! Led by Road Captain Brian Chubb and swept by Road Captain Paul Lauch, 7 bikes left the dealership and wound north through Everett to Marysville and then glided through the Tulalip reservation on the way to meeting up with 10 bikes from the North Cascades Chapter led by Vince Danner. After a brief meet-and-greet (where we were introduced to new friends and got caught up with some old friends), it was a short jaunt over to the casino where - as we ve come to expect - they treated us royally! Thanks for the ride, Brian and Paul! P.S. Congratulations to Bob Fast Fingers Bleiler for his victory in the casino slot tournament!

Chapter Meetings start at 9am in the HOG Den. First Saturday ride follows the Chapter meeting. Third Sunday ride meets at 9:30am. New Member Welcome! Starts at 10am Throttle Thursday begins at 6pm.
