1 The holidays are over, our New Year resolutions are set and all that is left is for Mother Nature to bring us those warm sunny days so we can ride and have fun. Just because the weather is sketchy and the temperature is cold doesn t mean we can t sit back, pick up our latest HOG Magazine and plan that next great getaway. HOG offers us a lot of tools to help with planning rides, finding locations, and meeting up with other HOG members. It could be going to one of the various regional rallies that they have planned for the year. Or, maybe it is one of their touring rallies where you can meet up with other HOG members to ride a certain area of our great country. But wait! This is 2018 and once Thomas & Janet Ptacek Directors again the big party is being planned in Milwaukee over Labor Day weekend to celebrate 115 years of the Harley-Davidson Motor Company. No matter where you want to go or what you want to do, there is a lot of information that is provided to help us ride and have fun. So, as you sit by the fire, sipping your hot toddy, and waiting for the temperature to rise, grab your laptop or tablet, go to the HOG member website, and start planning your next great adventure. ~ Thomas & Janet

2 New Year New goals What have you committed to this year? I am sure some of the drive and direction for the New You (those decisions made Dec 31 or Jan 1) may have fallen away, but what about your riding? Many of us have not been on the roads much due to these North Pole temps. But like the North Pole it is a constant reference point a direction for having a bearing on where you are and where you intend to go. Trey Hargus Assistant Director We (PTHD HOG) just had a Road Captain meeting and have started the ride calendar. Scott and Chuck are planning trainings. Here at PTHD you have opportunities to improve your riding with formal training through the HD Riding Academy. There is an upcoming Skilled Riders one-day course in April, which is half full (if enough interest is found from within the HOG chapter, we may add another day and create another 12 openings). What is your direction? How far have you traveled to reach your goals? Are you using a map to plot your progress? My goal for you, and me, is to become a better rider, to break some poor habits and to sometimes rethink what it is we re doing while out on two or three wheels. With 16 years as a Motor Officer, 12 years as a Motorcycle Safety Instructor, 2 years as Motor Officer Instructor and over 45 years of riding a motorcycle I find that I still have room to grow. Don t take what you know or don t know for granted. Come ride with us and let s learn together from one another! ~ Trey Hargus - Aquaman Do you have an interest in planning activities and other events for the Chapter? Have you ever wondered what it takes to be one of the officers for the Chapter? Often times people think being an officer is all about the time involved. It isn t the time that we enjoy but seeing the smiling faces and laughter of our Chapter members during one of our rides, meetings or activities. HOG provides us a lot of resources in our roles for the Chapter and no one has to know everything in order to provide our members ways to ride and have fun. If you have an interest in learning more about what is involved in being an officer, please contact one of us and we would be happy to share our experiences and other information and let you see what is involved in leading this Chapter in order to ride and have fun. 3 Suffering from PMS? Oh my, how these winter days make us antsy for spring!!! Only 48 days to spring as of February 1st, and the days are getting longer!!! If you haven t moved your bike lately, it would be a great time to move it slightly for the tires. Settling in one spot for a long duration may cause spots on tires that are undesirable. Scott Mendham We had a great showing of existing road captains and prospective ones at our general meeting January 17th. We sure enjoyed the Whole Hog Cafe as well. They have a great room for any future needs of the chapter. If you didn t make the meeting and wish to be on the team, please contact Chuck Yarbrough (Tusk) or myself! 4 Janet Stewart TIME IS RUNNING OUT If you have not already done so, NOW is the time to renew your Pig Trail HOG Membership. There are 2 types of HOG Memberships; National HOG Membership Provides access to a world of exclusive benefits such as the Harley Davidson Museum, HOG Events, HOG Magazine, Touring Handbook, Road Side Assistance, Discounts, and more. Membership is $45 per year and is renewable every 12 months from the signup date. Associate membership for a spouse, or sponsored person is $25 per year. Local Chapter HOG Membership Provides access to Chapter Meetings, Chapter rides, Ladies Of Harley (LOH) Activities, and all the other fun events and activities of the local chapter. You must have a current National HOG Membership in order to be eligible for the local chapter. Membership fee is $20 per person for the year and is renewable January of each year. In order to continue to ride and have fun with the Pig Trail HOG Chapter, each person will need to fill out the Membership forms and pay the local membership fee. Renewals can be done at the Dealership (Cashiers) and before or after the Chapter Meetings. It would be a sad, but Members that have not renewed by the end of February will be removed from the rosters and will no longer receive activates updates. 5 Kelley Rose Our January LOH activity was a Serving-Others labor-of-love event. For the third year in a row, LOH ladies gathered to make No-Sew Blankets for the Northwest Arkansas Children s Shelter. The blanket making tradition began with Lois Harvey inviting us out to her fabulous studio to teach us this fun craft and has continued annually since. Thank you, Lois! This year, Celia Silkwood served as our hostess for the second year in a row. Her home is beautiful and the counter space is perfect for assembling the large pieces of fleece. Kareen Turner served as co-hostess and helped Celia prepare and provide the goodies. We couldn t do these events without the hospitality of our gracious hostesses and co-hostesses. Thank you from the bottom of my heart Celia and Kareen! A special welcome goes out to Sheila Branham and Coleen Tyler who were attending their first LOH event! We really enjoyed getting to know you and look forward to seeing you next time! We will end up donating about 15 warm, soft blankets to the children. Thank you to all of you who participated. I am sooo proud of our Ladies of Harley. You are all so generous to serve others and support our community. Our next LOH event will be a Trinket Trade at Susan Housel s from 7-9 pm on Friday, February 16th. Terri Greene will serve as co-hostess. Please bring at least two items to trade for new-to-me shiny items. Many of you have said you have several items to bring. Well, the more you bring, the more you take home, the more fun it will be! Because the more you know about the road, the more it has to offer. There is a better rider in all of us - no matter how long you've been riding. It's time to get more out of the road, more out of the ride and more out of yourself. Whether you're a recent graduate of a new rider course or a seasoned road veteran, the Riding Academy Skilled Rider Course is the perfect way to brush up on your riding technique and to challenge your current skill level. The Class The Skilled Rider Course is an 8 hour course held entirely on our range over one day. The Course the proven curriculum of the Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) Experienced Rider Course Suite, with some enhancement developed by Harley-Davidson enthusiasts. Participants use their own motorcycles to enhance the following skills: control at low speeds, risk management, limited space maneuvers, cornering judgement, stopping quickly in a curve, swerving and stopping quickly, multiple curve manuevers and surmounting objects. Benefits In addition to enhanced riding skills, students who complete the Rider's Edge Skilled Rider Course receive a pin and patch set as well as a completion card from the Motorcycle Safety Foundation, which may qualify riders for insurance discounts (check with your insurance provider for more details). Cost The Riding Academy Skilled Rider Course at PTHD costs $ per person. Payments can be made via cash, credit card or a check payable to Pig Trail Harley-Davidson. What you need A street-ready motorcycle (registered, insured, inspected & pre-ride checked), an endorsement, permit or license, proof of valid motorcycle insurance, a helmet manufactured to US DOT standards, protective eyewear, motorcycling gloves, a long-sleeve shirt or jacket, over-the-ankle boots Jeans, and pre-paid course fee.
