10 TODSS improves the functionality of AVL and CAD systems for dispatchers by addressing information overload. Because each vehicle continuously sends real time data to dispatchers, this contributes to information overload. Therefore, important information about emergencies or disruptions may go unnoticed.
11 DNA kits are used by Transport for London (TFL) to identify and prosecute those who spit on bus operators. London is currently the only city in which the kits are being used for this purpose. TFL acknowledges that seemingly nonserious incidents can have a significant psychological impact on operators, and the most problematic of these incidents has been spitting.

21 Houston METRO issues pepper gel to bus operators who request it. The agency provides appropriate training to these operators. Metro Transit in Minneapolis allows operators to carry pepper spray. It has been successfully used several times to thwart assaults. Another agency in Texas allows operators to carry short blades. Liability is a significant concern to the agency and the operators themselves. Using selfdefense tools effectively without excessive force requires good judgment.

24 Intelligence and crime analysis allow for more efficient and effective resource allocation including officer deployment throughout the system. Crime analysis provides insights into crime trends, specific crime categories, hot spots, problematic time periods, and perpetrators; use of specific algorithms/models may help law enforcement predict crime hotbeds. CAD systems incorporate mapping technology to dispatch units to incidents, keep track of ongoing incidents, and provide officers with remote access to the systems.
