2 OFFICE OF THE CHIEF OF POLICE 9518 Fairview Avenue Douglas W. Keen Manassas, Virginia Chief of Police Office (703) Fax (703) The City of Manassas Police Department continues to focus its efforts on the ever changing and increasingly demanding task of ensuring our community is safe, engaged and committed to maintaining the high quality of life we have become known for. Community Policing continues to be the basic framework for this objective and we have achieved many accomplishments by following this philosophy. Our proactive approach has prevented crime and allowed our staff to spend more time interacting with the community. During this past year, our department experienced several incidents of violent crime that were quickly and diligently investigated, resulting in arrests and the removal of violent offenders from our streets. We were also able to achieve full staffing, furthering our proactive policing measures and contributing to the overall success experienced by the agency. In addition to several new officers, we were able to hire a part time Crime Prevention Specialist, a position that figures prominently in our Community Policing efforts. We continue to enjoy recognition through the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies as a Flagship Agency, achieved during our 2010 on-site assessment. Our next on-site is scheduled for 2013 when we will once again seek re-accreditation by CALEA. We recently experienced audits by the COPS Office and Immigration and Customs Enforcement, successfully satisfying all requirements of both agencies. As the Chief of Police, I want to commend the professionalism, dedication and commitment of all of the men and women of this Department. I also want to acknowledge the exceptional working relationship we have with our regional partners in law enforcement and the strong partnership we have fostered with the City Council and other City staff. I can assure you we value these relationships and will continue to work to maintain them as well as the trust of our citizens as we move forward to fulfill the shared vision we all have for the City of Manassas. Sincerely, Douglas W. Keen Chief of Police 2
