1 EKO-JB Description The EKO-JB combustion is a Class E6 type-approved damper intended to prevent the spread of combustion gases in ventilation ducting that penetrates fire rated compartment wall or floor structures. The damper is designed in accordance with the requirements of the Swedish standard VVS AMA 98, section QJC.1. The damper can also be located directly after air treatment units serving more than one fire cell. The EKO-JB combustion may also be used for direct air transfer in cases where the fire load factor does not exceed M/m. Type approval The EKO-JB combustion has been tested by Sveriges Provnings- och Forskningsinstitut (the Swedish National Testing and Research Institute) and typeapproved by SITAC (the leading Swedish construction approval agency), certificate no. 113/98. The abovementioned fire technical classification E6 applies on condition that the combustion is connected to our EKO-KE control and monitoring system, or equivalent equipment, to provide automatic functional testing at least once every 48 hours. In the case of smaller dampers, up to a maximum of x mm, installed in individual archive rooms or similar premises, the automatic functional checking system may be replaced by a manual system, with regular checks performed at least four times per year. Such checks must be logged in a register. In other respects the appropriate conditions must be maintained in accordance with the type approval. Design The EKO-JB combustion is supplied prepared for insulation in either guided or flanged design. The basic model is equipped with a factory mounted electric damper motor with spring return and end position contacts. Alternative damper motors are available if required, refer to the damper motors section. On installation the damper blades must always be horizontal. The EKO-JB combustion is manufactured of hot-dip galvanised sheet steel to environmental classification M. The smoke damper may also be supplied in alternative materials such as stainless steel 333 or acid resistant 343 for increased environmental requirements. Air tightness classification The smoke damper is equipped with a sealing gasket that seals the air side to the equivalent of class 3 in accordance with the Swedish standard for air tightness, VVS AMA 98. There is also a sealing strip around the damper frame, that expands and seals if the damper is exposed to heat. Working pressure The working pressure of the damper is max. 5 Pa, pressure class B, differential pressure with closed blades. Sizes The EKO-JB combustion is manufactured in a large number of standard sizes from x to 16x16 mm for vertical location and 1x1 for horizontal mounting.

2 Damper motors The basic EKO-JB model is supplied with a 4V electric safety motor. As an accessory the damper motor can be equipped with an EKO-TK press button switch for on site manual functional testing. Ventilation systems where the EKO-JB combustion is installed must have a smoke detector to provide an alarm and automatically close the damper. A 4V motor is always used in conjunction with the EKO-KE control and monitoring system. Alternatively the combustion can be supplied with a 3V electric motor or with a low or high pressure pneumatic motor as required. Note that the combustion must always be used with the supplied motor for type approval to be valid. Accessories EKO-KPB Junction box. EKO-RKB Control unit. EKO-RE Smoke detector (duct). Maintenance We recommend preventive maintenance of the damper as required by the plant in which it is installed. The damper blades and interior surfaces are cleaned with a brush, vacuum cleaner or by wiping down. NOTE Water or other liquids must not be used. Other movement requirements apply, in accordance with the type approval. The combustion s must always be installed with the pivot shaft horizontal Fire protection requirements in accordance with the applicable BBR. Dampers installed into the last fire cell or for air transmission in ventilation ducts must not be terminated closer than prescribed in the diagram below. Ducting must be insulated against the spread of fire in accordance with the following diagram. Insulation lengths are based on test results from Sveriges Provnings- och Forskningsinstitut (the Swedish National Testing and Research Institute). Branch connections to insulated ducting Branch connections are insulated in accordance with the diagram. 6 Table for diagonal calculation Width Height It is assumed that rectangular ducts with sides larger than.5 m have been reinforced in accordance with applicable regulations. The diagonal measurement (x) is to be used on rectangular ducts to obtain the correct insulation length, see diagram. Example: Duct width 14 and height 8 gives the value 1.6. Go in to the diagram at diagonal measurement 1.6 where the required insulation length is specified. The combustion is connected to the control and monitoring system EKO-KE.
