1 MACOMB COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF ROADS TRAFFIC OPERATIONS CENTER To provide and maintain a reliable real-time traffic operations system, in coordination with county stakeholders, that enables a safe, efficient, and informative travel experience. PERFORMANCE MEASURES MAY % RELIABILITY: NETWORK Percentage of intersections along major Macomb County corridors which have 0 82 operational communications to the 150 Traffic Operations Center SAFETY: SERVICE REQUESTS EFFICIENCY: F/C REVIEWS Number of completed service requests received by the Traffic Operations Center during the target month. Number of times the Traffic Operations Center staff reviewed an intersection based on a service request. Reviews occurred in the field (F) or at a console (C) through the network. INFORMATIVE: TOC HIGHLIGHTS The month of May was an exciting time for the Macomb County Department of Roads Traffic Operations Center (MCDR TOC). As the communications backhaul project nears final testing, communications to hundreds of radios, controllers, and other field devices have come online, granting access to a wide variety of new tools for the engineers, technicians, and operators to use in improving the County s traffic infrastructure. With increased bandwidth capabilities, more cameras and additional data can be transmitted back to the TOC. Additionally, the Computer Maintenance Management System auditing project continued at a rapid pace, with over 320 intersections now audited and accessible in the NexGenAM system. With a few clicks of a mouse, users can now access information on a traffic cabinet, the equipment inside as well as outside on the poles, and even view photos. 2 Field/Console Reviews Completed TRAFFIC OPERATIONS Compilation of the general field/console review types completed by the Traffic Operations Engineers. Field/console reviews are assigned after a public/stakeholder concern warrants an investigation. Reviews are either conducted in the field or at an Operator console through a network connection. Service Requests By Intersection Motorists and public agencies contact the TOC to provide feedback on intersection functionality. This month, the intersections where TOC engineers focused attention to address the feedback were Van Dyke (M 53) at 15 Mile, Romeo Plank at 22 Mile, 26 Mile at Bay River Marketplace (Meijer Entrance), Garfield at Canal and North Avenue at 23 Mile. The service requests for Van Dyke (M 53) at 15 Mile were due to high traffic congestion in the Michigan Department of Transportation s construction zone. TOCengineerskeptakeeneyeontheintersection and maintained signal timings best suited for that intersection and the associated construction traffic patterns. 6 Current Camera Locations CAMERA COVERAGE This chart measures the activity of operational cameras currently integrated into TOC video wall software. (See definition below.) During the target month, the TOC added 36 cameras to be viewed on the video wall. MCDR is undergoing an extensive upgrade of its communications system. Once this project is completed, the TOC will have a more enhanced, reliable and robust communications network. Cameras currently deployed and under Macomb County Department of Roads jurisdiction. Cameras considered operational were available 90% of the target month. Cameras needing maintenance were available for less than 90% of the target month. Cameras in Standby have not yet been integrated into TOC video wall software. Page 6 of 6
