he energy transition encourages the emergence of new flexible uses France is also preparing the Energy ransition Challenges and solutions Increased production of electricity from renewable energy Wind (19 GW) Solar 1 million sites by2020 An irregular production which causes an asynchrony between production and consumption he difficulty to forecast the local production Smart Grids Evolution of consumer behavior towards energy savings Development of sustainable transport Energy Conservation Information Consumption management 35 million customers Electric vehicles by 2016, 2 Moi. by 2020 and 8 Moi. by 2030 Optimize the localisation of renewable energy production sites Increase observability of networks Optimize the control of the local demand and generation - Demand side management - Developing energy storage 11
he growth of decentralized generation (DG) connected to the distribution network changes the conditions of its operation and its development 94% of the renewable decentralized generation (DG) (~ ) are connected to the distribution network and represent a total of 10 GW 31/12/2012 By 2025, more than half of new energy production installations will be connected to distribution network Assumptions : By 2020 (PPI) : Wind = 19 GW Photovoltaic = 5,4 GW +1 million sites Photovoltaic generation connected to MV/LV networks (31/12/2012) : 3,12 GW, sites 2012 : MW ( sites) Wind generation connected to MV/LV networks (31/12/2012) : 6,82 GW, sites 2012 : MW (92 sites) By 2030, UFE predicts : Wind = 28GW Photovoltaic = 30 GW 12
Our challenges and responsibilities Peak Demand Management BC: Investment deferal ools: Flexibility Management EV Integration & Management BC: Investment deferal ools: Smart charging DG Integration & Management BC: Investment deferal ools: VVC, antiislanding Power Quality Management BC: Customer satisfaction & cost ools: VVC, FDIR, Micro Grids? Grid Optimization (Operation & Maintenance ) BC: Increase lifetime asset, Reduce O&M costs ools: Monitoring, Automation ERDF aims to manage as well all these challenges and to remain fully responsible of the distribution grid 13
Our belief: a need for an Active Distribution Management System «fit-and-forget» approach «only operation» approach «active» approach ERDF believes in an «ADMS» to manage the future Grid & Markets he active approach would allow for interaction between planning, connection, operational planning and operational timeframes. Different levels from planning, connection to real-time flexibility can reduce investment needs and increase security and quality of supply. 14
Active Distribution Management System implies more interactions and informations exchanged between actors Planning & connecting processes have to evolve use of meter & quality data Operational planning will become central for SO/DSO coordination & Markets Ex-post data analysis will be crucial for all new business processes New DSO interactions with markets & SO at different time frames Need for CIM & CIM Market extensions for DSOs 15
Active Distribution Management System: introduction of the operational planning as a core business process for DSOs Forecasting & Profiling System (FPS) Operational Planning System (OPS) Active Demand Management System (ADMS) Grid & Market Data Storage & Analytics (GMDA)? [1] Network topology [2] Cable caracteristics [3] Compensator activation [4] Switching operations [5] Network measurements [6] DER description [7] Metering historic [8] Weather forecast [9] Customer information. ariffs. [10] Calendar information [11] DER information. Maintenance [12] Work scheduling [13] Switching orders Urgent need for the development of the IEC Part 5 - Operational Planning 16
Active Distribution Management System: integration into current DMS? Forecasting & Profiling System (FPS) Operational Planning System (OPS) Active Demand Management System (ADMS)? Grid & Market Data Storage & Analytics (GMDA) elecom Management System (MS) Need for a new Reference Architecture for Distribution Management System 17
Respect for a methodology that leads to system requirements We need also a methodology to write effective requirements for the new Smart Grid systems and functions We value the Use Case methodology when the following sequence is respected: Starting with goals of primary actors (i.e. DSO for Distribution Management System) Describing firstly the Business Processes use cases (black-box) hen opening the boxes and describing the system use cases (black-box and white-box) Recommendation : Read the book of Alistair Conckburn: «Writing effective use cases» 18
ERDF approach to describe business use cases How describing new Smart Business Processes enhanced by new Smart Grid Functions? Planning & network development Power system optimization Operational planning Real ime Operation (incl. Emergency) Data analysis ex-post Metering, Grid, settlement, Market Long term (1 to 5 years) Short term (intra-day to 1 week) Post actions ime scales Mid term (1 Month to 1 year) Real time (after «market cosure», incl. Emergency) View Points «Market Facilitator» & «Grid Optimizer» DGM Functions & Basic Monitoring & Control Capabilities Flexibility
Business Use Cases related to Electric ransportation Example DC8 Electric ransportation IEC C8 WG6 example Mobility Services Infrastructure Services Energy Services Information & data Services Business domains Mobility services EV Supply/Rental Multimode travel Parking Urgency DC8-1 Unconditional charging DC8-5 EV Fleet DC8-2 Charging with Demand Response DC8-6 Residential Parking DC8-3 Smart Charging Discharging in a Private Network DC8-7 Public Parking DC8-4 Smart Charging-Discharging in a DSO Public Network Business processes Interoperable data processing, exchange & settlement Reservation of an EVSE? Charging Service Roaming? DC8-8 Energy Management for Smart Charging DC8-9 Capacity Forecast Based Smart Charging Identification? Authorization? Measurement? Billing? Smart Grid functions
ERDF intends to take an active part to this (r)evolution ERDF decided to become active in the normalization work since ERDF participates actively in IEC work: Convenor of IEC C8/WG6 Generic Smart Grid Requirements IEC C8/WG5 System approach and methodology IEC C57 with five experts: o WG10: Francis Gallon o WG14: Oliver Carré, Rémy Younès o WG15: Florent Cardolaccia o WG17: Pauline Gény And ERDF had always a great support of EDF R&D EDF R&D was involved in IEC C57 since 1996 when CIM was brougth to WG13 and when WG14 (System Interfaces for Distribution Management) was created CIM IOP Use Cases 21
Conclusion Active Distribution Management System is a key tool for the future of DSOs Need for Operational Planning (i.e. IEC Part 5) Need for CIM & CIM Market extensions for DSOs Need for a new Reference Architecture for DMS hank you for your attention Any Questions? 22
