4 Environmental Sustainability Cities main problem but also solution Cities consume on average between 60% and 80% of world energy production They are responsible for most emissions of greenhouse gases Over the next 20 years, the share of people who live in cities, will increase from 50% to 59% Cities are the main cause of CO 2 emissions, but also represent the solution of the problem as enabler of a high potential for improving energy efficiency 4
