AGENDA Introduction to the NICE GRID project PV integration : offers and results of clients experimentations Reducing peak demand : offers and results of clients experimentations 11
Two winter offers to reduce winter peak demand between 6 and 8 PM Smart meter Linky + VOLONTARY LOAD MANAGEMENT All electrical appliances Bonus for demand response: financial compensation for not consuming between 6 and 8 PM SMS and mail warning SMART ELECTRICAL HEATING Smart meter Linky + Electrical heating Remotely controlled electrical heating between 6 and 8 PM Bonus for demand response SMS and mail warning Each participants can follow their consumption and the effect of their efforts with a 1 hour time step visualization Linky necessary to compare with baseline and to make 1h data available 12
Financial opportunity coexists with the wish to take part into a collective effort, to do a «citizen» action» More than 220 residential participants for winter experimentations (out of 1650 eligible clients): 15% of requested clients Challenge of reducing winter peak reduction well understood by participants 77% changed their behavior by using several levers However these changes don t go toward a higher energy sparing Participants had feedback at individual and collective level to give sense to their action 11 participating companies This engagement is based on Trust in their electricity supplier Quality of commercial relations with EDF Interest and legitimism of demonstrator regarding the electricity supply in the PACA region Principle of demand response is legitimate and accepted because it is punctuel and limited 13
Load shedding involves the aggregation of residential and commercial flexibilities as well as grid batteries January 20 th 2015 OVERALL CONSUMPTION IN CARROS COMMERCIAL STORAGE RESIDENTIAL Contribution to reduction : 47% (11 companies) Reduction up to 10 % of electricity consumption Contribution to the reduction: 47% Effect conform to the request (example of 1 MW storage during 30 min) Contribution to the reduction: 6% Average reduction of 20 % of electricty consumption compared to a reference day 14
Energie «effacée» (kwh) Three types of flexibilities contribute differently to the load shedding Contribution of each type of flexibilities within a load shedding on several days Schedded energy (kwh) x 1536 x 48 Maximum shedded power (kw) 1350 x 1357 x Residential Flexibilités flexibilities résidentielles Batteries Flexibilités réseau Commercial flexibilities Commercial flexibilities contribute to the largest amount in energy but are variable Batteries are responsive and can make a large power available to the grid Jan Jan Jan Jan Residential flexibilities are the smallest contribution but are stable. Source: EDF R&D 15
Conclusions and perspectives Electrical water tank as a tool to integrate PV electricity: Easy to activate through the Linky infrastructure (smart meter) High capacity: 2,4 kwh on average per customer No impact on customer comfort Important reserves: 11 M clients, with 8 M remotely controlled High mobilization of commercial and residential customers Residential customers: low share but stable Commercial customers: highest share but variable Results have to be consolidated with ongoing experimentations Experimentations in 2016 with focus: On the use of residential batteries at customer premises On the use of evolved water tank
