Technical data sheet Vincent Lemaire CEO Safra CONTACT US Safra Constructeur 25 rue Copernic Albi Phone : +33(0) Fax : +33(0) contact@businova.com Imagination, innovation and boldness for the public transport of tomorrow Thanks to : «SPL d un point à l Autre» for Gaillac city, «La Communauté d Agglomération de l Albigeois», and Tisséo for «Agglomération de Toulouse». Safra Pictures : Safra / Studio Tchiz / Occiprod Conception : Safra - service communication Printing : mai 2016 O ut of all the challenges that need to be taken up in order to improve the well-being and lifestyles of all citizens, I am convinced that more sustainable and more intelligent public transport mobility is one of the essential issues that need to be resolved for the cities of the 21st century. It is this condition which has polarised innovation within Safra when it comes to responding to changes to public transport. We at Safra feel that businesses have a duty to be visionaries, so we are embarking on the pioneering development of the bus of the future, the Businova. Innovation is something that has to be tackled with conviction and we need act like a leader in order to come up with new paths towards the sustainable development of public transport. Through the Businova, with its innovative engine design and attractive look, Safra are thus firmly committed to reconciling environmental and economic sustainability along with improving the lives of citizens. Thus, in the face of these complex but crucial challenges involving governance methods, growth, mobility and the environment, success will come from an outward-looking approach and synergy between the political world, the world of business and the transport authorities. Throwing our efforts into leaving our own mark on urban mobility, whilst at the same time reducing its environmental impact - now that really is a noble cause! So we feel sure that if businesses, local authorities and councillors all take bold approaches this will drive us on to success, and this project is explicit proof of that.
Engine A customised, efficient engine which adapts to the needs of the network. Cost No infrastructure costs either on the line or at the depot. Cost of the optimised battery pack. Environment Reduction of pollutant emissions, battery optimisation and a long vehicle life are our priorities. Connectivity Remote vehicle monitoring for simplified operation, also allowing maintenance operations to be planned in advance. Pros Operation Easy to operate and requires no alterations to the line. The multi-hybrid version can be recharged at the depot in 6 hours using a 32A socket. Chassis The energy pack on its independent axle means that the weight of the battery does not limit the vehicle s capacity. Models Engines 10,5m version 65 to 70 passengers Multi-hybrid 2 drive trains in parallel (Electric / hydraulic) 100 % Electric The Range Fuel cell 12m version 92 to 100 passengers Under examination is one of the leaders in the central contracting of public transport
SUSTAINABLE MOBILITY Urban mobility issues have driven us to design the Businova. Reducing harmful emissions and giving our children high-quality air; cutting down on the amount of noise caused by means of transport in order to improve the everyday lives of city-dwellers; developing an engine capable of using forms of energy other than just fossil fuels; allowing public transport authorities and businesses to commit to the transition to other forms of energy - that is the real challenge. As a pioneering technology company, Safra have developed the first multi-hybrid electric vehicle, in partnership with R&D Industries, which means that Businova can offer a full solution for sustainable mobility in an urban environment.
The Businova is a showcase for an effective policy for cleaner, healthier towns and cities.
The environmental issues The Businova is a rational, environmentally responsible product which will allow local councillors to commit to cleaner towns and cities. Conventional engines inexorably release CO 2 and other toxic products, such as fine particles, which can end up in dangerous concentrations in an urban environment. Along with the major issues involved in global warming, air pollution is now becoming a public health matter. As a result of its flexibility, the Businova can help to reduce both fossil energy consumption and CO 2 emissions - as low as zero emissions - depending upon how it is used and the choice of engine. Finally, many of the materials used in the vehicle s design are recyclable. 8 ATTRACTIVE An unusual, comfortable and accessible design which is popular with people of all ages - that s what the Businova is all about. Its shape does not go unnoticed and is a source of pride for councillors who are bold enough to make such a cutting-edge choice in order to improve mobility in their towns and cities. That s not all - the Businova s chassis has been split into two modules, one for the energy source and the other for passengers, and the architecture thus offers a unique viewpoint at the rear of the vehicle, giving users a new feeling of freedom, calm and user-friendliness, all of which means that Businova is both utilitarian and a pleasure to ride on - also helping to make transportation networks more appealing. There can be no doubt that this vehicle, which has been designed for all generations to enjoy, has something for everyone. 1 bus can carry as many people as 30 cars.
Both utilitarian and a pleasure to ride on thus making public transport more attractive. Design Dominique Delamour - R&D Industries
INNOVATION Simplicity The Businova s unique engine system means that the vehicle can easily adapt to the transport network and no infrastructure is required, which means that the vehicle does not have to be tied to a specific line. The recharging point installed at the depot does not require any complicated, expensive installation work. A simple terminal plugged in to a 380 V power outlet is all that is needed to recharge the vehicle in 6 hours overnight. Finally, the cab has been designed to make the hybridisation transparent to the driver, thus making the bus easier to drive. 380 V~ 32 A
Common sense, pragmatism and simplicity are the bases upon which this vehicle has been designed.
Upgradeability The bus of today is not the bus of tomorrow. Because the electric technology in use at the present time in transport world is only at a very early stage in its development, right from the launch of the Businova project we at Safra chose to design an upgradeable vehicle. This means that the Businova we have right now, with its hybrid electric mode, will allow us to offer the following in the future: a zero-emissions vehicle, an end-of-line recharging system (for a large fleet), a hydrogen range extender, a switch to a new battery chemistry in the future. This upgradeability is made possible by the vehicle s innovations: the energy pack located underneath the rear platform, the coupling box, the incorporation of components into the vehicle allowing much simpler replacement.
The Businova s flexible architecture also allows a choice of the technology used on the line, depending upon its configuration. For instance, a city centre line could be operated with zero emissions... Safra s sustainable development policy involves combating planned obsolescence. It has always been our job to ensure that the vehicle lasts both technologically and aesthetically, so we optimise the equipment s performance throughout its life. Agility Flexibility Modernisation UPGRADEABILITY V E H I C L E Multi-hybrid 100% electric Fuel Cell
EFFICIENCY A CREATIVE PARTNERSHIP The Businova is an urban transportation vehicle offering superb technical, economic and environmental performances. The engine can include up to three energy sources all working together and organised around a distributor unit - a highly efficient way of powering the Businova and, conversely, this system allows optimum recovery of the vehicle s kinetic energy when braking. The Businova s innovations do not end with the drive train - they also involve intelligent auxiliary management, and it is all of these developments together which help us to achieve significant improvements to the vehicle s efficiency. At Safra we have our own design and engineering department, based around five core skills: - Mechanical design (chassis, suspension, engine, bodywork and interior layout) - Electrical design (drive train, looms, electrical architecture, etc.) - In-vehicle systems (CAN network architecture, software development, etc.) - Artificial intelligence (energy optimisation, control logic, etc.) - IT (Wi-fi, databases, back-office tools, etc.) At Safra we have been working with R&D Industries on the Businova project. R&D Industries is a research company which has been operating since 1992 and its vocation is the design of urban transport systems.

A responsive, connected vehicle Only the development of intelligent transport systems will allow us to absorb the increase in traffic and to improve its safety and energy performances. The Businova is ahead of this particular curve. The Businova has a network of logic controllers which communicate with each other and thus allow overall management of the vehicle s energy. This then allows the Businova to interact with its environment and to gather data in real time which can then be used to improve operation of the vehicle. The Businova s intelligent architecture thus allows remote communication to facilitate support whilst the vehicle is in service, and also its maintenance.
