3 Main Automotive Trends at International CES 2016 (1/6) The vision of most automotive OEMs is that the car becomes a personal assistant, a mobile phone on wheels, the best companion of the user or his BUDD-e (buddy) Vehicles should make life easier through value added services like preplanning and optimization of routs based on agenda data, parking pre-reservations, preparation of the connected home before arrival, etc. or simply through the possibility to relax during automated driving In this framework the vehicle becomes part of the internet-of-things being connected to Mobile devices Smarthome Office Divers clouds As the overall ecosystem will change with the arrival of automated driving, OEMs recognize clearly the need to change their business models and to generate added value services in order to keep or further increase their revenue streams Ford wants to become an Automobile and Mobility Company BMW and Ford plan to offer added value connected services also to vehicle-owners not driving their respective brands With MercedesMe Mercedes and its partners offer a package of innovative services, products and lifestyle GM has massively invested into Lyft, a competitor of Uber Objective is to increase the frequency of customer interaction and not only to get in touch with customers when selling a car or in the repair shop 21-Jan-16 Copyright 2016 Page 3

4 Main Automotive Trends at International CES 2016 (3/6) For this purpose real-time vehicle environment data are created through real-time scanning with LiDAR sensors and cameras implemented around autonomous vehicles and are compared with high-resolution map data All mapping companies and OEMs create at the moment their own high resolution map data by scanning step by step all roads worldwide Audi, BMW, and Daimler acquired mapping company HERE from Nokia HERE is currently scanning roads for its HD Map Layer TomTom has scanned highways and freeways in Michigan and California in HD quality and starts now to scan European highways Toyota builds its own mapping system for autonomous cars Ford signed a partnership with Velodyne using Velodyne s LiDAR sensors to create HD maps Mobileye has a partnership with VW and GM to map roads with their camera systems Vehicle localization and object classification need important calculation power in combination with artificial intelligence and deep learning Maps are updated based on crowd-sourced real-time data Vehicles access on databases with millions of data on object classification (traffic signs, traffic participants, etc.) Algorithms define situational behavior of vehicles In case of vehicle errors or situations in which vehicles do not know what to do new algorithms have to be created and deployed to the fleet NVIDIA believes that all OEMs have to have their own deep neuronal network potentially leading to competitive advantages Neuronal networks will become essential for the driving experience Networks will be maintained, improved, deployed and enhanced over time 21-Jan-16 Copyright 2016 Page 4

Next Big Step BUDD-e Concept Car (derived from the Bulli) SOP could be around 2019 Long distance electric car based on modular electric drive kit with EPA estimated manufacturer range of 233 miles At a charging power of 150 kw system can be charged to 80% capacity in 30 min. Top speed of 180 km/h and acceleration from km/h in 6,9 seconds Battery is located flat on vehicle floor bringing a low center of gravity System powers two electric motors for all wheel drive No more door handles doors can be opened by gesture or voice recognition Exterior mirrors replaced through cameras HMI Concept Active Info Display with 2 full HD customizable touch screens (Drive - navigation, Consume audio controls, smartphone integration) and 1 instrument cluster display (Control - vehicle status) Gesture and natural voice recognition car will recognize person who is talking by locating person within the vehicle Capacitive steering wheel switches with haptics feedback for swipe and pressure activation Social vehicle allowing a group of friends travelling together to bring their own content to the cabin center display through their mobile devices Vehicle is part of the Smarthome content of fridge can be controlled remotely (cooperation with LG), doors for persons ringing at the door can be opened from the vehicle (cooperation with DoorBird) Vehicle has a drop box to which mail and parcels can be delivered Page 5

6 NVIDIA Accelerating the race to self-driving cars (1/3) The Self-driving loop for Path Planning Sense at all times in all possible conditions with GPS, LiDAR, cameras, radar, etc. where the car is and what is around the car Map, created in advance, measures and maps precisely the world (HERE HD maps) Localize car within a few centimeters based on measurements and perceptions Perceive everything around the car in any condition and classifies it Plan the path based on all measurements This is a continuous loop in self-driving cars The most difficult task in the self-driving loop is Perception This problem is solved with deep learning/ deep neuronal networks being better in image recognition capacity than a human being NVIDIA GPU Platform accelerates training process of deep learning/ AI engines by up to 40 times Therefore NVIDIA works with the entire eco-system to support AI research and implementation The GPU platform can be implemented in different environments like PCs, robotics, cloud computers, vehicles For the automotive industry NVIDIA provides and end-to-end platform starting with a training platform for object recognition, over a deep neuronal network to an in car AI supercomputer Architecture will be a cloud connected internet of cars When car comes into a new or difficult situation learning of this car is sent back to the cloud and the experience is re-released to all cars Because of the experience of one car all the cars of the network became smarter Page 6

7 TomTom Highly Automated Driving Maps TomTom launches Highly Automated Driving (HAD) maps in Michigan (interstate roads and freeways) and California (interstate roads) Today both States serve as testing ground for autonomous vehicles The project started 4 months ago and TomTom has scanned in the meantime kilometers in the USA HAD scanning for German Highways is under way HAD Maps deliver a highly accurate and realistic 3D border-to-border model of the road TomTom RoadDNA is a highly compressed 2D version of the HAD map Through TomTom RoadDNA autonomous vehicles can compare HAD maps with scanned real time data while driving in order to know the precise vehicle position TomTom is currently looking for partners (OEMs, suppliers, etc.) in the HAD ecosystem Page 7

8 Toyota Artificial Intelligence Starting January 2016 Toyota will invests $ 1 Billion for the next 5 years in the Toyota Research Institute (TRI) Toyota will research in the areas of Artificial Intelligence, Deep Learning and Robotics The head of the institute is Dr. Gill Pratt, who previously worked at the U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency The institute is located in Stanford Research Park, Palo Alto, CA, and near MIT in Cambridge, MA Toyota has three goals 1. Enhance safety of cars with ultimate goal of creating vehicles that are incapable of causing a crash 2. Make driving accessible to everyone, regardless of ability 3. Apply Toyota technology used for outdoor mobility to indoor environments, particularly for the support of seniors 4. Accelerate scientific discovery by applying the technics from AI and machine learning to other areas of scientific discovery particularly material science Toyota Prius Mobility Teammate Concept Vehicle LiDAR sensors in front of the vehicle on each side, and in the back on the top of the rear window Embedded millimeter wave radar in front grill 2 forward looking high definition cameras integrated next to the rear view mirror With Artificial Intelligence vehicles learn to drive independently Vehicles use deep learning networks Vehicles share their learned experience with other cars over the network Continuously learning vehicles adapt to more difficult traffic situations Page 8

9 Faraday Future FFZero01 Concept Car (2/2) FF Concept Car is a preview of the DNA of future FF vehicles to come FFZero01 Concept Car Seat design inspired by NASA research for zero gravity driving position placing the driver at a 45 angle Drive-by-wire Asymmetric instrument panel HMI interaction similar to mobiles devices with swipes, touches and pinches Smartphone is docked into steering wheel allowing driver to access information, control secondary functions, view live images and to navigate Head-up Display with augmented reality Spine of the headrest includes head- and neck-support connection, oxygen supply and water supply through a port of the helmet developed by FF FF is speaking about a tablet on wheels with connectivity functions featuring Adaptive personalization Seamless transfer of custom vehicle configurations Access to live images Real time data visualization Aero-tunnels, running from front grill to back, channel air through the vehicle Cooling of batteries Reduction of power consumption Page 9

10 Mitsubishi Electric Emirai 3 xdas Concept Integration of two separate flat LCD touchscreens under a curved plastic surface in middle console area Two screens work together when lower TS recognizes 3 or more fingers on its surface a control dial is displayed allowing to change volume on the lower TS or to slide it to the upper TS to change temperature when turning fingers on its surface Content of screens can be personalized and synchronized with cloud content On the lower of the 2 screens inptus can be realized through writing recognition High-visibility panels reduce reflections on screens due to optical-bonding and optical-design technologies 3 screens integrated above the steering wheel Screens on left and right side are rear view video screens replacing side mirrors through cameras Center screen is a digital instrument cluster User Monitoring Camera and Eye detection Recognizes driver and adjusts devices to personalized preferences Realizes safety functions like Distraction sensing or if driver looks into the wrong direction in case of a dangerous situation warns the driver Together with a sensor integrated in the drivers seat measuring the heart rate the system recognizes the state of the driver like drowsiness or sudden health issues 3D Combiner HUD with picture displayed virtually 10 meters in front of the vehicle Adjusts the display's position in the combiner according to specific situations, such as when turning driving on an expressway, showing objects in the combiner further out as in city mode Cameras integrated around the vehicle Functions are forward looking camera permitting to look around the corner Bird s-eye view Page 10

11 Bosch neosense programmable haptics (CES Innovation Award) Bosch neosense haptics feedback and pressure sensing in touch screen Bosch proprietary solution Programmable haptics feedback integrated in pressure sensitive surface Programmable haptics simulates textures, patterns or buttons under the finger tip Through sliding with the finger over the surface the user finds buttons due to their simulated textures With pressure sensitive surface depending on the pressure applied to the touch surface menu scrolls faster or slower The pressure sensing is apparently created by a combination of capacitive and resistive sensors that are overlaid Page 11

12 Audi OLED Rear Lamps New Audi rear lamps will enter into series production in 2016 in Audi TT RS 4 OLED elements with 3 segments each, segments that can be controlled independently Combination with LED lamps having blinker function As LED lights do not have to be exchanged over vehicle lifetime ( hours lifetime incl hours operating time) OLEDs are designed in a way achieving the same lifetime OLED applied on glass carrier which is completely encapsulated and water tight Advantages of OLED lamps Low DC voltage of 3 4 volts necessary Homogeneity of lit OLED surface not needing any light guides or reflectors Small/ flat packaging space and lightweight Audi TT RS Rear Lamps Flexible OLEDs Today 3D formed OLEDs do not have the same maturity as flat OLEDs as it is not yet solved what carrier to use and how to bend them without harming the organic semiconductor layer Audi experimental curved rear OLED lamps Page 12

13 Synaptics Display enhancement technologies Pseudo Color Idle Mode As display surfaces in cars get bigger and bigger power consumption presents a challenge The Pseudo Color Idle Mode decreases screen power consumption to ¼ by using only 8 colors instead of the normally used 16 Mio. colors Quality of the picture is excellent and the user can not see a difference compared to the original image TouchView TDDI (Touch Display Driver IC) Based on the acquisition of Renesas, Synaptics has developed a one chip solution A single chip drives the display and the touch controller Advantages are cost savings and space reduction Page 13
