2 A World in Continuous Change We are moving from an industry that, for 100 years, has relied on vehicles that are stand-alone, mechanically controlled and petroleum-fueled to ones that will soon be interconnected, electronically controlled and fueled by a range of energy sources I believe the auto industry will change more in the next five to 10 years than it has in the last 50, and this gives us the opportunity to make cars more capable, more sustainable and more exciting than ever before M. 12 More than 4Gb per car per day Terabyte of data need processing and proper big data analytics skills Machine learning techniques required to understand what the vehicles are doing System modeling and Virtual Sensing techniques will become more and more important

13 Cybersecurity increasing importance Prof. Dan Boneh, Stanford University, describes several methods of sensor abuse One example, mobile phones sensor abused to: Steal position leveraging battery drainage Speech recognition leveraging gyroscope Vehicle cybersecurity importance will increase and will require robust, shared processes for systems security

14 On the other hand propulsion will simplify Battery price will achieve competitive price soon Electrical propulsion system vs. Internal combustion engine has 1/100 moving parts Lower disruption rate and higher mileage expected for future vehicles

16 How do we achieve all of this? Need to apply a multidisciplinary approach: regulations, ethics, local authorities. All are key contributors to flawlessly introduce this paradigm shift Requiring new standards, a framework for autonomous testing, an update of urban mobility plans Updating universities courses and training to ensure competences on the matter
