12 R Tech Tips Transponder programming troubleshooting Have you ever had problems programming keys to a vehicle? Find below a troubleshooting checklist that will help with problem vehicles. Prior to programming: 1. Add a jump pack or secondary power source to maintain voltage during programming. 2. Get the details from the vehicle & check the SRS to ensure that you are using the correct transponder & obtain the correct programming procedures. 3. If you are attempting a vehicle that is not listed in the SRS, call the SGT tech team to gain advice on the correct procedures. 4. If you experience any difficulties in the programming please check communication issues below. Communication issues: 1. Check you are using the correct pathway on the XTOOL as suggested on the SRS. Example: Ford > Aus > Falcon is wrong. Aus Ford > Aus > Falcon is right Make sure the vehicle has sufficient voltage 13v + during the programming procedure. Most communication failures are a result of low voltage. Check that the X-TOOL is charging when plugged into the vehicles OBD port. (If it doesn t charge than there will be a blown fuse) If communication is still an issue, check all the fuses on the vehicle. Programming successful! But vehicle does not start: Check that the transponder being used is correct for the vehicle. Example: Using an ID46 instead of a ID46-GM. It s not uncommon to get a success message even though the wrong transponder has been used. Check the live data to see if the keys are reporting that they are registered. Check the status of the security light. The security light will generally indicate if the transponder is programmed or not. SG SG Tech Tech Team Team Try to get a history on the situation, ask questions like; Did the car start before? Was it bought at auction? Did you recently loose the keys or has the vehicle been un-operational for months? Check for an aftermarket alarm or security devices (kill-switch etc.) that have been installed that may interfere & have them removed. Disconnect the Negative terminal on the battery & reconnect after 2 minutes & try to start the vehicle. Preliminary checks when the vehicle does not start: Vehicle is in Park or Neutral. Clutch & or Brake is depressed when attempting to Start the vehicle. Check the vehicle has fuel? Check the battery has sufficient voltage to start.
