16 R The purpose of this months tech tip is to explain how the new KD-X device can be utilised to diagnose issues when trying to program keys. Although there are many determining factors to be aware of when carrying out diagnostic work, there is a simple formula that can be followed to ensure successful programming. As a general consensus if the vehicle has sufficient battery voltage, you are using the correct transponder key and you are selecting the correct programming method, programming will generally be successful. However when this is not the case and the vehicle history is vague or unknown there is more to the equation. In past tech tips we have covered battery voltage, how to test fusible links and explained some common issues when carrying out diagnostic programming, with the KD-X we are now able to test another important part of the Immobiliser circuit known as the Transceiver. The transceiver is the Induction coil located at the ignition barrel that transmits and receives transponder data. The transceiver powers the transponder in your key and on some vehicles also charges the rechargeable battery mounted on the keys PCB for central locking purposes. Tech Tips USING KD-X TO DIAGNOSE PROGRAMMING ISSUES When facing programming issues, the value of knowing whether the transceiver is transmitting a request from the immobiliser circuit is very important. Using the KD-X we are know able to test this data transaction. How to test: Pair your mobile device with the KD-X using the mobile KD application Select chip function Under other - select Ignition coil detection Hold the aerial of the KD-X close to the ignition transceiver, insert the key and turn to the ON position. If the ignition transceiver is working the KD-X will emit an audible beep and your mobile device will display the message Ignition coil normal. In the event that the KD-X does not beep there is a much greater issue to diagnose. Here are a few issues to check for: SG Tech Team The transceiver wiring is disconnected or damaged. The transceiver is faulty. (This is very common on some NISSAN & HYUNDAI vehicles) A fusible link has blown that effects this circuit. The module that requests for the transponder data is faulty or the wiring from this module is damaged. For assistance with troubleshooting immobilizer issues call the SGT tech team.
