5 OUR TECHNICAL ASSUMPTIONS AT THE CROSSROADS OF THE ENERGY AND RAILWAY SECTORS ELECTRICITY STORAGE becomes a (technical and financial) reality in the industrial world. Railways must integrate this technology which will be a strong asset for a robust and reliable electrical railway network. (GREEN) HYDROGEN will be one of the leading fuels of future (new) mobility patterns. H2 is the way to zero-emission trains. SMARTGRID will represent an opportunity to move the energy industry into a new era of reliability, availability, and efficiency. RAILWAY ENERGY STEERING will rely on a real-time management thanks to the digitalization of railway assets 5

15 SMART STATIONS AIX-EN-PROVENCE TGV STATION: PROOF OF CONCEPT OBJECTIVES: MAKING RAILWAY STATION AN ENERGETIC AND MOBILITY HUB Reach the energetic autonomy of the station, Propose the electric vehicle charging stations service. HOW? By COMBINING Technological blocks : > Smart charging stations, > Solar panels, > Energy Storage Systems. SNCF and Energy providers work together to optimize the usage of different assets in the microgrid with the goal to provide affordable, reliable energy with a low environmental impact. In the future: enable energy exchanges with the district around the station 15

19 Shift2Rail has led to a successful cooperation between RUs, IMs and the industry. Some of the undertaken activities will not be completed by SNCF therefore actively supports the establishment of a Shift2Rail 2.0 in the next EU Research Framework Programme and would welcome being a strong partner in it. 19
