1 Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority Board Action/Information Summary Action Information MEAD Number: Resolution: Yes No TITLE: Safety Report PURPOSE: To present to the Board of Directors a report on the state of safety within Metro, including safety statistics, current actions, action plans on recomendations to audits, policies and other safety related information so the Board may be kept up to date and informed. DESCRIPTION: To ensure that safety is the priority within Metro and that necessary actions and policies are implemented to enhance the safety of our employees and customers. Third continuous month of steady or lower employee injury rate Three more injuries than last month but decrease rate due to additional hours worked Majority of injuries were minor strains, bumping and/or slips/fall injuries Actions In all safety committee meetings and general observations, the focus is on being aware of your surrounding and using caution at all times. Per Million Pas ssenger Trips Second month of stable customer injury rate One more injury than last month Between Metrobus and MetroAccess, 9 vehicle collisions contributed to 34 claimed customer injuries Actions Rail customer injuries this month; majority of increase in escalator claimed injuries Continue to emphasize and focus customers attention to use caution when using Rail; particularly our escalators and ensure announcements are made to use caution when in our Rail system.
