3 Revised 6/01 Hydrants Waterous WB The Pacer In 1886, Waterous introduced their line of Frost Jacket fire hydrants. The traffic model WB brings the developments of the last one hundred plus years into the 1990's and beyond. It incorporates the strength and durability of a ductile iron lower barrel and conforms to the latest version of AWWA C-502 specifications for dry-barrel fire hydrants. It is easy to maintain and has a proven record of dependability. American-Darling B-84-B The design and construction of every American- Darling 5 1 4" B-84-B fire hydrant provide for maximum water delivery to nozzles with minimum pressure drop. Features which assure years of uninterrupted service include: positive mechanical drain operation; ability to remove complete working parts assembly, including hydrant valve, drain lever and hydrant seat; simple barrel extensions to accommodate grade changes. American-Darling B-62-B Reliability is the most important requirement in a fire hydrant. This means dependable, efficient operation when needed and is the result of quality design and manufacture to rigid specifications. American-Darling B-62-B hydrants incorporate over 80 years experience in design, manufacture and field experience to make available the utmost in reliability. Clow Eddy F-2640 The Eddy hydrant has existed since The design has proven to be dependable and efficient and one that is easy and simple to maintain. The Eddy's advanced design provides for minimum friction loss and maximum water delivery. Superior engineering, construction and materials assure operational dependability. When the Eddy hydrant does require maintenance, the complete removal and reassembly of the working parts can be accomplished with three ordinary hand tools: an adjustable wrench, a standard screwdriver and pliers. Clow Medallion The Clow Medallion fire hydrant sets new standards for fire protection. The Medallion has earned both Underwriters Laboratory and Factory Mutual approval. It is fully rated for 200 psi working pressure and has a five (5) year limited warranty. 4 D-1 Waterous Pacer WB D Pacer s Exceptional Features Many years of experience have taught Waterous what customers want in a hydrant. They have applied this knowledge into the Pacer design. As a result it incorporates the best features of all hydrants with additional features not available elsewhere. Pacer is a functionally designed hydrant unmatched in overall convenience. In addition, Pacer meets or exceeds all applicable industry standards. Pacer offers such quality convenience features as: 250 PSI Rating Designed for 250 psi working pressure and tested to 500 psi hydrostatic pressure. All Ductile Iron Construction Its lighter, stronger, smoother and more uniform than hydrants of cast iron construction. 360 Degree Nozzle Rotation The stainless steel retaining ring system allows 360 rotation by merely loosening the flange bolts and turning the nozzle section to the exact position desired. All Bronze Drain No composition, plastic, rubber or leather face to chip, peel or crack. Fusion Bonded Epoxy Coating The interior and exterior of the MJ shoe as well as the upper and lower valve washers are fully coated with fusion applied epoxy. WB Specifications Hydrant shall conform to AWWA C-502 Standard for Dry-Barrel Fire Hydrants. Hydrant shall be the traffic model design with replaceable parts designed to break away without water loss and damage to other parts of the hydrant. Hydrant shall be designed for 250 psi working pressure and tested to 500 psi hydrostatic pressure. Main valve opening shall be a minimum of 5¼". The bronze valve seat shall thread into a bronze subseat. The all bronze drain plunger shall be positively operated by the main operating rod. A travel stop nut shall be used to provide a positive limit to the travel of the main operating rod. The hydrant shall have a two piece operating nut for durability and low maintenance. The nozzle section shall be ductile iron and capable of 360 rotation by simply loosening the four ground flange bolts. Nozzles shall be mechanically attached with a ductile iron retainer and sealed with an O-Ring. The upper and lower standpipe and extensions shall be ductile iron with a minimum inside diameter of 7¼". The MJ shoe and upper and lower valve washers shall be fully coated with a fusion applied epoxy. The MJ shoe shall be attached to the lower barrel with stainless steel bolts and nuts. The MJ shoe shall have a flat bottom, ribbed back and strapping lugs to facilitate installation. It includes such items as main valve rubbers, gaskets, O-Rings, nuts, bolts, snap rings and lubricants. description W Hyd. Maintenance Kit WB Top Extension Kit A hydrant so low that connection of a hose is impossible or difficult is a community hazard. Since they cannot be eliminated, minimizing the cost of repair is the next best thing. This is being done in many cities by using the Pacer WB Traffic Model Hydrant. The Pacer is designed to break away without water loss and without damaging the lower barrel or other vital parts of the hydrant. Repairs can be made without digging or shutting off the water because the Pacer is a true compression hydrant in which the main valve closes with and is held shut by water pressure. The Traffic Repair Kit makes repairs simple and fast. Only the parts which were so designed will break away on impact. 21 D-18 Clow Medallion Fire Protection The Clow Medallion hydrant is designed and built to provide unsurpassed fire protection. Utilizing computer developed data, Clow engineers painstakingly sculpted interior surfaces to provide the smoothest possible waterway, resulting in the lowest possible loss of head through the hydrant. The result? More water to the nozzles faster. With the Clow Medallion, it s performance that counts. Maintenance While providing fire protection is a hydrant s primary function, ease of maintenance and repair are valid concerns of maintenance crews. Extraordinary steps were taken to insure that the Clow Medallion can be routinely serviced and repaired easily. All working parts are readily accessible from the top of the hydrant. 5-Year Limited Warranty The Medallion equals or exceeds the requirements of the American Water Works Association (AWWA). Also it has been listed by the Underwriters Laboratory (UL) and is approved by Factory Mutual (FM). Structurally and operationally this is clearly a superior Fire Hydrant. The lifting rings, which are held in proper alignment by the spreader bar, fit over the 2½" hose nozzles and are locked in place by the hose nozzle caps. 30 D-27 Hydrant Storz Connections D Integral Hydrant Storz The integral hydrant storz nozzle is provided on new hydrants. A storz spanner wrench is required for cap removal. The storz meets or exceeds the requirements of AWWA C502 regarding material and pressure testing. The storz shall have a brass metal face and hard anodized aluminum storz ramps and lugs. The aluminum finish shall be hard coat anodized to Mil-A-8625, Type 3, dark gray. The storz shall be made of forged or extruded 6061-T6 aluminum. The blind cap shall have hard anodized aluminum storz ramps and lugs, made of forged or extruded T6 aluminum. The cap shall be equipped with a suction seal. The cap shall be connected to the hydrant with a 0.125" vinyl coated aircraft cable. Once installed, the integral hydrant storz with cap extends less than 2" from the hydrant nozzle. Permanent Hydrant Storz The permanent hydrant storz threads onto the male nozzle and is secured permanently to the hydrant. A storz spanner wrench is required for cap removal. The storz adapter shall have a hard anodized aluminum metal face seal and hard anodized aluminum storz ramps and lugs. The adapter finish shall be hard coat anodized to Mil-A-8625, Type 3, dark gray. The adapter shall be made of forged or extruded 6061-T- aluminum and secured to the nozzle by (2) stainless steel screws, inserted 180 degrees apart. The female adapter shall contain a flat rubber gasket which seals against the male hydrant nozzle. The blind cap shall have hard anodized aluminum storz ramps and lugs, made of forged or extruded T6061-T6 aluminum. The cap shall be equipped with a suction seal. The cap shall be connected to the adapter or hydrant with a 0.125" vinyl coated aircraft cable. Once installed, the permanent hydrant adapter with cap extends less that 3" from the hydrant nozzle.
