1 VALVES & CONTROLS crosby SERIES 800, 900 OMNI-TRIM, AND BP OMNI-TRIM Crosby s Series 800 adjustable blowdown, Series 900 fixed blowdown OMNI-TRIM, and BP OMNI-TRIM full nozzle pressure relief valves have a simplified, single trim design with superior application versatility. Series 900 OMNI-TRIM Series 800 Series BP OMNI-TRIM Features Relieving capacities certified by National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspectors. Certification includes air and steam for Series 800, and air, steam and water for Series 900. BP certification includes air and water. Valves manufactured in accordance with the requirements of ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Section VIII and Section III. Superior seat tightness. Precision lapped flat metal-to-metal seats, or elastomer or TFE O-ring soft seats provide the ultimate in seat tightness. (Elastomer or TFE O-ring seat standard for Series BP.) Maximum corrosion resistance. Trim components are stainless steel as standard. All 316 stainless steel, Monel, Hastelloy and NACE* optional constructions are available. Spring standardization. Standard Series 800 and 900 pressure relief valves are suitable for inlet temperatures to 750 F [399 C], using a 17-7PH stainless steel spring. Series BP is suitable for inlet temperatures to 400 F [204 C]. Fewer parts result in increased reliability and ease of maintenance. Series 800 pressure relief valves have an external blowdown adjustment allowing for short blowdown, smaller differential between operating and set pressures, and reduced product loss. Series 900 valves use a single trim design for liquid, gas and vapor services. Series 900 valves provide reliable blowdown without the need for adjustment. The Series BP with its balance piston design offsets the effects of variable back pressure on valve set pressure. Series BP valves can handle applications involving high built-up back pressure. 2 SERIES 800 ADJUSTABLE BLOWDOWN PRESSURE RELIEF VALVE Crosby Series 800 full nozzle pressure relief valves are designed for use on air, gas, vapor and steam service applications. The Series 800 design utilizes an external blowdown adjustment to provide shorter blowdown than the Series 900 OMNI-TRIM, typically in the range of 5 to 15%. The Series 800 pressure relief valve with its precise blowdown adjustment results in increased efficiency since system pressure can operate closer to set pressure. The shorter blowdown also reduces product loss. Effective orifice areas are 0.110, 0.196, and sq. in. [71.0, 126, 198 and 325 sq. mm]. ASME CODE REQUIREMENTS Series 800 pressure relief valves are manufactured in accordance with requirements of ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code, Section VIII. The Series 800 can also be manufactured to ASME Code Section III for nuclear-related applications. CAPACITY CERTIFICATIONS Capacity certifications include air and steam. Relieving capacities are certified by the National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspectors. 3 SERIES 900 FIXED BLOWDOWN OMNI-TRIM PRESSURE RELIEF VALVE Crosby Series 900 OMNI-TRIM full nozzle design pressure relief valves have a simplified, single trim design with superior application versatility. They provide overpressure protection for thermal relief and medium flow applications in refineries, chemical and petrochemical plants, power plant auxiliary systems and pulp & paper mills. The Series 900 has been used successfully in thousands of industrial process applications since its inception in Series 900 OMNI-TRIM pressure relief valves provide overpressure protection on air, gas, vapor, liquid thermal relief and steam service. Maximum fixed blowdown is typically 20% or less. Standardization of components in the OMNI- TRIM provides easy assembly, durability, ease of maintenance and lower inventory costs. The design and wide array of options provide maximum versatility and premium performance. Effective orifice areas are 0.074, 0.110, 0.196, and sq. in. [47.7, 71.0, 126, 198 and 325 sq. mm]. ASME CODE REQUIREMENTS Series 900 pressure relief valves are manufactured in accordance with requirements of ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code, Section VIII. CONNECTIONS The Series 900 OMNI-TRIM is typically supplied with screwed inlet and outlet connections, but are also available with optional flanged end connections or male socket weld ends. Standard flanged end connections are lap joint stub end construction. Optional flanged end connections with unique face-to-face dimensions to match existing installations are also available. Contact your sales representative for availability of these and other special designs. For installations where a bolted cylinder is preferred for maintenance reasons, a special version of the No. 5 orifice in ¾ x 1 connection size only is available. This valve is designated as A and has a maximum set pressure of 1500 psig [103 barg]. See the illustration on page 37. Standard connections are ¾ x 1 MNPT x FNPT. 4 SERIES BP OMNI-TRIM The piston O-ring (Figure 1) is used to balance the Series BP. The diameter of the piston O-ring is the same as the seat diameter (Figure 2) and offsets the effects of superimposed variable back pressure and built-up back pressure in excess of ten percent of the set pressure. Effective orifice areas are and in 2 (47.74 and mm 2 ). Standard materials of construction are carbon steel cylinder; 316 stainless steel base, disc insert, disc holder and guide; and 17-7PH stainless steel spring. Optional materials of construction are available for special applications or conditions involving corrosive fluids. In addition, materials are available conforming to NACE MR Special cleanings, coatings and lubricants are also available on application. For applications at pressures and temperatures not listed in this catalog, consult Crosby or your local authorized representative. ASME CODE REQUIREMENTS Series BP pressure relief valves are manufactured in accordance with requirements of ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, Section VIII and Section III. BACK PRESSURE The maximum allowable back pressure in liquid applications is 70% of set pressure. The maximum back pressure in vapor and gas applications is 50% of set pressure. For liquid thermal relief applications, the maximum allowable back pressure is 90% of set pressure. Note: The maximum back pressure rating is 400 psig. For back pressures greater than 400 psig, consult the factory. CERTIFIED CAPACITIES Capacity certification includes air, liquid, gas and vapor. Relieving capacities are certified by National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspectors. SEAT DESIGN Series BP pressure relief valves are available with elastomer or TFE O-ring soft seats for optimum seat tightness and minimal maintenance. Details on O-ring materials and pressure and temperature limitations are on page 10. All O-rings are standard commercial sizes. BLOWDOWN Blowdown is the difference between the opening and reseating pressure of a pressure relief valve expressed as a percentage of set pressure. Series BP blowdown is fixed and non-adjustable (typically 25% or less) on liquid, gas and vapor applications. Optional cap types and lifting levers are described below. 1. Standard Threaded Cap (Type A) Where no lifting lever is required. 2. Threaded Cap with Test Rod (Type B) Normally used to hold the pressure relief valve closed when the system is being hydrostatically tested. 3. Packed Lifting Lever (Type D) For applications where periodic testing is desirable. This is a sealed design for pressure integrity. Note: ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code rules require that a lifting lever must be supplied with the valve when the service is (1) air, (2) water at the valve inlet that exceeds 140 F [60 C] excluding over pressure or relief events, or (3) steam. 4. Packed Lifting Lever with Test Rod (Type E) Same as Type D except furnished with a test rod. caution: Test Rods should never be tightened more than fingertight.
