4 Purse Seiner E727 Jette Kristine Esbjerg Improvement at 23,5 % Bollard pull in Frederikshavn E727 Jette Kristine Technical data: Engine: MAN 1080 kw at 825 rpm Propeller: MAN Alpha VB740 / ø2650 / 214 rpm 19.1 tons bollard pull before 23.6 tons bollard pull after Latest information from the vessel indicates a fuel saving at minimum 15 %. Jette Kristine consumes approx. 600,000 liter MGO per year - total savings at approx. 90,000 liter MGO at approx. 5,- DKK per liter = 450,000 DKK / year (60,466 Euro)

Where to save: - Frequency regulating of hydraulic pumps - on/off switch near operation areas Refrigeration: (approx. 7% of total fuel consumption) RSW Refrigerated Sea Water Refrigerated cargo holds freezing holds Ice plants Where to save: - Energy saving compressor - Frequency control on pumps - Automatic regulating systems on RSW valves - Insulation of cargo holds

6 Thermo photographic: Deck support with uninsulated heating pipes The heating pipes were running from the engine room to a heating ventilator in the forecastle, inside the aluminum deck support. This reduces the effect of the ventilator and heats up the cargo holds. It was recommended to insulate the pipes.

7 Heating: (2% of total fuel consumption) Generators Oil heating Engine cooling water Main engine Heating Electric heating When using the waste heat from the engines the ships efficiency is improved The price from an oil boiler is approx. ¼ per produced Kwh compared to electric heating (DKK prices) Electric heating approx /Kwh - Oil heating 0.08 /Kwh The ventilator uses 6 Kw/h = 144 Kw per day The vessels generator was a Scania DS11 which uses 0.22 l/kw in average. 144 x 0.22 = liter MGO per day. With an oil price of approx /liter it amounts to per day per ventilator. Per year this is x 365 = 11,563 liter oil per ventilator (7,747 )

9 Other consumers: (approx. 2% of total fuel consumption) Ventilation Airconditioning Engine heating Refrigerators and freezers Electronics (navigation equipment, radios and televisions)

10 Main engine Diesel engine before installation Engine room Fact: Approx. 40% of the fuel are is for propulsion, the rest disappears into different losses (flue gasses, cooling water, mechanical loss) Improvement: Use of waste heat from cooling water system, new electronic controlled engines more efficient - savings approx % Easy way to save fuel: Slow down!!

11 New emission levels in 2015 (SECA area) Reduction of SO₂ (sulphur) in marine fuels from 1 % till 0.1 % (global 3.5 % 2020: 0.5%) In 2016 reduction of NOx from new ships to 80% of present level. What happens? - Increased demand on low sulphur distillates (marine fuel, 0.1 % and 0,05 %) - Production of low sulphur marine fuels will not be increased according to fuel suppliers. - Supply and demand? - Higher prices at marine fuels.

12 Bulbous bow Reduces/changes the waves in front of the ship, most efficient at a certain depth and speed, a negative influence at the wave pattern can occur if not correct design, savings up till 30 %.
