1 Alternate Fuels Testers TEST RESULTS from testing done on Sunday 5/27/06. Present: Alan Miahnahri & Rudy Stefenel. It was great that Alan helped with the testing; we talked about his 13 month old baby, diesel cars, pollution and butanol. Purpose: TO VERIFY THE CONCLUSIONS OF PREVIOUS TESTS DONE, BUT THIS TIME WITH VERY PURE ACETONE: TO FIND OUT IF THERE REALLY IS A FUEL MILLAGE IMPROVEMENT TO ADDING A SMALL AMOUNT OF ACETONE TO A TANK OF GASOLINE. All the previous tests were done using Klean Strip acetone purchased at Orchard Supply in Milpitas. Just to be sure that we have test result that are not contaminated by impurities in the inexpensive acetone that we used earlier, testing was done Sunday with very pure lab grade acetone that is 99.7 percent pure made by Fisher Chemicals at about $35 per pint. ALSO TO FIND OUT IF THERE IS A FUEL MILLAGE IMPROVEMENT TO ADDING A SMALL AMOUNT OF ACETONE TO A TANK OF DIESEL FUEL. Naturally, we used very pure acetone for this test too. CONCLUSIONS: For gasoline: The results did not indicate any improvement using the equivalent of 2 ounces of acetone or 3 ounces of acetone per 10 gallons of gasoline as compared to using regular gasoline in our test set up. Testing was done with very pure acetone: Fisher Scientific A18-500, 99/7 % pure. These are the same conclusions we had using not so pure acetone: Klean Strip acetone from Orchard Supply. For diesel: The results did not indicate any improvement using the equivalent of 2 ounces of acetone per 10 gallons of diesel fuel as compared to using straight diesel fuel. The same very pure acetone was used as was used for testing with gasoline.

2 TESTING WITH GASOLINE GENERATOR: Sunday's test involved using a Champion Power Equipment 3500 watt gasoline generator using a 1500 watt electric heater as a test load. The fuel flow rate, using regular gasoline, was compared to the fuel flow rate using a mixture of regular gasoline with the equivalent of 2 ounces of acetone per 10 gallons of gasoline and the equivalent of 3 ounces of acetone per 10 gallons of gasoline In all cases, several tests were averaged together to help cancel out normal testing inaccuracies. Here is the gasoline generator set up. Notice the heater test load on the right hand side and the beret stand on the left. Notice that the fuel line going from the beret to the fuel filter, goes through a piece of copper tubing cemented to a piece of concrete. This was done to keep engine vibrations from getting to the beret and to keep the fuel level from shaking it, making it easier to see the fuel level accurately.

Gasoline: Union 76 regular. Acetone: Fisher Chemicals no. A certified A.C.S. 99.7% pure lab grade Watt Gasoline Generator: Champion Power Equipment Model C Test Load: Bionair Electric Heater model BH3930U, set at 1500 watts Before the test, I mixed 6 3/4 milliliters of acetone in one gallon of gasoline as the variable, 6 3/4 milliliters is the same as 0.2 ounces. 0.2 ounces per gallon is the same as 2 ounces per 10 gallons. ENGINE WARM UP: Warmed up the Champion 3500 watt generator with a Bionair electric heater as a load, set at 1500 watts and ran it for 15 minutes on straight regular gasoline.

5 All test times recorded are in minutes and seconds all through this report. As an example 2:11 is two minutes and eleven seconds. Here are the times logged for 50 milliliters of fuel flowing using straight gasoline: Ambient temperature in the shade now is 72 degrees F. TEST DATA ( straight gasoline ): 2:11, 2:12, 2:11, 2:11, 2:11, Average: Ambient temperature in the shade now is still 74 degrees F. We let the beret run nearly dry and then we added the variable (gasoline with a little acetone) for 15 minutes, keeping the generator running and keeping fuel in the beret. This cleared out the straight gasoline from the generator and primed it with the variable. Then we ran ran the tests; Here are the times logged for 50 milliliters of fuel flow using the variable: TEST DATA ( variable: 0.2 ounces of acetone in one gallon of gasoline): 2:12, 2:12, 2:11, 2:11, 2:11, Average: 2:114 I was going to switch over to testing with the diesel generator now, but Alan suggested that we increase the acetone to the equivalent of 3 ounces per 10 gallons of gasoline just to see if this makes a difference. This is supposedly the optimum amount. We were all set up so this would go fast. So I mixed up a fresh a fresh gallon of gasoline with 0.3 ounces of acetone and we ran five tests. By the way, 0.3 ounces is 8.5 milliliters. We ran the gasoline generator with the new variable for 15 minutes to clear out the old variable. Then we ran the tests with 0.3 ounces per gallon of gasoline. TEST DATA ( variable: 0.3 ounces of acetone in one gallon of gasoline): 2.11, , 2.11, 2.11, Average: My conclusion is that, with our set up is that there is no significant difference between running straight gasoline and gasoline with 2 ounces of acetone per 10 gallon of gasoline or 3 ounces of acetone per 10 gallons of gasoline.

6 TESTING WITH DIESEL GENERATOR: Here is the diesel test set up. Notice the beret stand with the beret. The fuel flows though a piece of copper tubing cemented to a piece of concrete to keep engine vibrations from reaching the beret. Notice the large external muffler to keep the noise down. The four waffle irons in the photo were the intended test load. Unfortunately, at least one of the waffle irons had a thermostat in it that caused it to switch on and off. The test load must be constant so the waffle irons were replaced with the same 1500 watt heater test load that was used when testing with gasoline. Unfortunately, I did not take a photo after swapping the waffle irons with the heater, so you have to use your imagine with this photo.

7 Here is the copper tube glued to a piece of concrete to absorb vibrations. This shows Matt Flynn timing diesel fuel flow a week before, 5/21/06, when we tried to do this very same testing in the diesel generator. It rained later when I was testing the variable and the water got into the beret and ruined the test.

8 TEST SETUP 5/27/06: Location: Stabilizer Solutions, foot hills in Milpitas, thank to Peter Herrera! Diesel Fuel: No 2 diesel purchased at a gas station called USA GASOLINE. Acetone: Fisher Chemicals no A certified A.C.S. 99.7% pure lab grade. Diesel Generator: Multi-Power Industrial Equipment Model 178 F, 5890 Watts Test Load: Bionair Electric Heater model BH3930U, set at 1500 watts A Multi-Power 5700 Watt diesel generator was used with a 1500 watt electric heater as a test load. The fuel flow rate, using straight diesel fuel, was compared to the fuel flow rate using a mixture of diesel fuel with the equivalent of 2 ounces of acetone per 10 gallons of diesel fuel. In all cases, several tests were averaged together to help cancel out normal testing inaccuracies. Before the test, I mixed 6 3/4 milliliters of acetone in one gallon of diesel fuel as the variable. 6 3/4 milliliters is the same as 0.2 ounces. ENGINE WARM UP: Warmed up the Multi-Power 5700 Watt diesel generator with a Bionair electric heater as a load, set at 1500 watts and ran it for 15 minutes on straight diesel fuel. Ambient temperature in the shade now is: 79 degrees F. All test times are in minutes and seconds all through this report. As an example, 3:16 is three minutes and sixteen seconds. Rather than time the fuel flow in the beret from the 0 milliliter mark to the 50 milliliter mark, I timed the fuel flow from the 10 milliliter mark to the 60 milliliter mark when testing with diesel fuel. This was done to give the bubbles at the top of the fuel in the beret more time to clear after filling it. Here are the times logged for 50 milliliters of fuel flowing using straight diesel: TEST DATA ( straight diesel fuel ): 3:31, 3:32, 3:31, 3:32, 3:32, Average: 3:316

9 Now I ran the diesel generator for 15 minutes using the variable to clear out the straight diesel and prime the fuel system with the variable. TEST DATA ( variable: 0.3 ounces of acetone in one gallon of diesel ): 3:30, 3:31, 3:31, 3:31, 3:31, Average: 3:308 On the average, the variable timed 8/10 of a second faster for 50 milliliters of fuel flow, than with straight diesel fuel. That is about 2/10 of a percent faster which is within the measurement inaccuracies. This sure does not show that the diesel generator is running more efficient with the variable than on straight diesel fuel. My conclusion is that there is no significant difference between running a the diesel generator with straight diesel fuel or with 2 onces of acetone per 10 gallons of diesel fuel in our test set up. 5/30/2006, Rudy Stefenel
