2 Welcome to the 0th Annual Lassle Ranch Simmentals production sale. It is hard to believe 0 years have gone by since we sold LRS Preferred Stock 70C in that first sale and he still shows up in lots of pedigrees today. Year after year we strive to produce bulls with one goal in mind: To keep you in the cow business and help improve your bottom line. If you look through the catalog you will notice many of the bulls are sired by some of the best proven and time tested A.I. bulls in the industry and many are the result of our extensive embryo transfer program. Our embryo transfer program has allowed us to offer more genetics from our top cows, as well as gives you the option to purchase full siblings/half siblings to result in a more uniform calf crop. Please take a minute to read about the change in how the EPD s are calculated and let us know if you have any questions; the numbers have changed, however their genetic ranking has not changed when comparing bulls. We are fortunate to get to work in an industry that we love so much and even more fortunate that we get to do it as a family run operation. Erwin comes out to the ranch as much as he can, but at 8 is starting to slow down a little. Ryan, Sarah, Grace, and Harper are still in Billings. We love having them close and they enjoy being able to be more involved in the ranch and spend a lot of time helping on the weekends. Grace started Kindergarten this year and loves going to school while Harper is now walking and is always on the move. Stephanie is still teaching in Hysham and in the summer has been Clay s hay boss and hired hand. Travis and Alix were married this past July and are living in Sheridan, WY as Travis took a teaching job in Ranchester, WY. As always, the bulls have all been tested for BVDPI and are certified negative. Any bull that has parentage that indicates he has a chance of being a carrier for any known genetic defect at the time of the sale will be tested and guaranteed genetic defect free. The bulls will be fed until April, fertility tested, and delivered to your ranch. Let us know if you have any problems with your purchase and we will do our best to correct them. New this year we will be genomically testing some of the bulls. This DNA test will add accuracy to their EPD s on the bulls that are tested. This technology is new and you can expect to see even greater use in the future. We will have all updated EPD s on the genomically tested bulls available on our website ahead of the sale. All the bulls have been tested to determine if they are homozygous black and will be listed in the catalog. We are opening up our heifer pen and offering choice of our 0 born heifer crop. This has become a tradition for us the last few years and we have taken great pride in the success of the heifers chosen for their new owners. In addition we are also selling red cows. These are the last red cows that we own I guess they have earned their keep since they are still around. We are selling them for one reason and one reason only as we try and produce Homozygous black bulls in volume and a more limited market for red bulls it is tough to manage just a few red cows and have a red program. For that reason these red cows will be sold. They will be sold with papers and a good opportunity for someone looking to add some fresh genetics to a red Simmental program. We probably say it every year, but truly believe it this year we feel this is the best set of bulls we have ever offered for sale. 4 EPD Percentiles Where does an animal rank? Knowing where an animal s EPD ranks within the population of any given genetic evaluation is a far more valuable and accurate prediction of that animals true genetic predicted merit than simply knowing the numeric value of the EPD itself. First and foremost, before you can rank or even compare animals EPDs, you must be comparing apples to apples and that s why we use the American Simmental Association s MultiBreed Genetic Evaluation It eliminates the guesswork and necessity conversion table and formulas when comparing breeds or hybrids. The accuracy of the MultiBreed evaluation is increased greatly when all of an animals ancestors are registered in the herdbook and all of the progeny data from them are processed through the MultiBreed Genetic Evaluation. Data is only as accurate as you make it and at Lassle Ranch Simmentals we have gone the extra mile for many generations of genetics to insure our customers of accurate and meaningful data. We have added the percentile rank to all the bulls in the sale. The percentile charts below are from the American Simmental Associaiton 0 MultiBreed Genetic Evaluation using the new Simmental/Red Angus base. Using these charts to plot exactly where an animal ranks within the breed is the most accurate way of determining their true genetic merit and is far more important than the actual numeric value given to the EPD. Retained Semen Interest: The buyer will receive full possession, 00% salvage value and ¾ semen interest of any bull purchased in this sale, while Lassle Ranch Simmentals will retain ¼ semen in these bulls. The buyer has the option The day of the sale to purchase Lassle semen interest for % of the sale price. Lassle Ranch Simmentals will reserve 00 units of semen for in herd use only. If semen interest is not purchased this semen interest royalty entitles LRS to ¼ of the revenues of any semen sold. LRS semen interest remains even if the bull or any interest in the bull is sold to a third party. It is the buyer s responsibility to ensure that LRS interest is upheld if semen is ever sold. The buyer must also inform any third party of Lassle Ranch Simmentals semen interest if bull is ever sold. Lassle Ranch Simmentals will not be responsible for expenses related to semen collection or promotion of any bull purchased unless a mutual agreement is reached for the expenses prior to semen collection. Full Purchase Value Extended Warranty on Sale Bulls: Every bull selling carries a 00% guarantee extended warranty for one breeding season provided the bull is managed for proper and acceptable nutritional physical health. In the event a customer has any problem with a bull (health, injury or death) prior to or during the bulls first breeding season the customer should immediately contact Lassle Ranch Simmentals to report a claim. A veterinarian s statement of the problem will be required and Lassle Ranch reserves the right to have the bull returned if deemed necessary. A replacement bull of mutually agreed upon quality will be provided if Lassle Ranch has one available. In the event a satisfactory replacement is not available, the customer will be given a full credit (minus a salvage value of $000 for original bull) to be used in a future Lassle Ranch Sale. LRS will not be held responsible under any circumstances for any settlement amount exceeding the purchase price of bull. No one can guarantee that every animal will perform perfectly, but at Lassle Ranch Simmentals we can guarantee that we will make things right if they do not. Testicle measurements: The scrotal circumference of each bull was tapemeasured on December 9, 0. The scrotal measurement were adjusted to yearling and sometimes will vary one way or another as actual yearlings.
