Originally an RC car, Andy is detailing the engine bay and interior, in addition to suspension and other parts. NOTES FROM THE DECEMBER MEETING The last get together of 2015 was well supported with 25 members, 3 juniors and 3 guests in attendance. Before taking a quick look at the main proceedings, we need to put out two reminders. Firstly now that winter has arrived, we have a clean shoe request in place. This is to ensure we do not leave the room with a mess on the floor. Secondly since the SMAS financial year begins in January, Rick will be looking for your 2016 membership fees. Every third month is a Theme Night meeting and for 2016 various ideas were presented. Amongst the more interesting were an EGG NIGHT, where models from the Egg Kit range will be suitable, plus any scratch built items using an egg shape. If memory serves correct, there were even some early land speed record cars that used a stream-lined egg shape. Another idea that we have not had before involves wire wheels. At first glance that would appear to have limited applications, but on consideration it could involve motor-cycles, cars, early aircraft and so on. So look for that topic later in the year. Where some of the themes have limited appeal, one answer will be to have three themes on one night instead of two. Either that or have an additional theme night. Once again a reminder that models presented for the first time in keeping with a theme, qualify for a free ticket on the prize draw. The subject of the Draggins contest was discussed briefly. An additional category has been suggested in honour of the late George Barris, who created machines such as the Batmobile. That category will probably be added. Last year there was a problem with the Draggins having separate Friday and Saturday tickets. 3 PARSONS PROJECT Ta 154 Progress Report I have managed to get a bunch of work (...play?) done on the cockpit of the Ta 154, I did manage to lose a few...ok a lot of the etch parts for the seatbelts. In the past I used to get into a panic and all cranky when little detail bits pinked out of the tweezers. Now I don t even look around for them anymore, just chalk them up as MIA and carry on. So the easy way out was taken by draping the rear seat belts over the sides of the back rest, to hide the fact that I was too laz...expedient...with the missing parts. I have removed the casting blocks from both fuselage halves and test fitted the pit with surprisingly good results...in spite of my modelling abilities. P.S. the good news is you can spill all the Tamiya glue you want on this kit and all it does is remove the finger prints and maybe a bit of paint. - Chris Parsons 3

4 A QUICK PEEK IN THE BOX HpH Models Focke Wulf Ta 154 Editor s Note: Before looking at the latest offering, a few words about the reasons for Peek in the Box articles. In fact there are various reasons why they appear. It could be a kit from a new manufacturer that we have not seen before. Maybe the re-release of a kit that has not been around for a few decades. Sometimes it is an offering from a kit manufacturer that is stepping up their game, to become state of the art in the hobby. Then, as with this month s item, a limited run about something incorporating an unusual subject and/or materials. A review of past subjects shows the majority to be aircraft, which reflects growing interest in that side of the hobby. Cars do not get that much coverage, largely because the bulk of automotive kits from Revell/Monogram, Tamiya, etc. do not change much from issue to issue. Other manufactures with far more limited releases, such as Revell Germany, Fujimi and so on, tend to concentrate on subjects not covered by others. If something is acquired that you feel may be of interest to others, please take some photos before starting the project. And now back to the regularly scheduled programme (by Chris) already in progress: I have received my HPH 1/32 nd scale, Focke Wulf Ta 154 Moskito, and it looks to be a great kit...hundreds of little chunks of beautifully cast resin parts, a bunch of brass, a CD for instructions, very nice decals and a Belgian chocolate. This is not a cheap kit, but it is probably the only way I can put a 1/32 nd German Moskito on the shelf with my 1/32nd De Havilland Mosquito. I was so impressed with it as a matter of fact I m now budgeting for the HPH 1/32 nd (another all resin) Messerschmitt Me410. This company also makes a full (resin) interior for the Revell 1/32 nd He 111 but to show it off you d have to build that kit as a cut away or crash (torn open fuselage) diorama. They also make a fibreglass and resin 1/32 nd Catalina. Now, having built a 1/48 th Canso and smacking myself in the head and knocking a lamp off my bench with that barn door wing in that scale, I can only imagine breaking windows and punching holes in the walls working on a Catalina in 1/32 nd scale...plus it tips the scales at $ CDN (I ve bought cars for less).
