5 Drive wire systems Drive Systems All moving screens have a leading edge which is moveable and a back edge which is fastened to the greenhouse structure. The leading edge of the material is fastened either to a lightweight steel tube or to an aluminium profile. This leading edge tube or profile makes a seal with the greenhouse structure or the back edge of the next sheet, when the screen is fully closed. It also provides a fixing point for the screen s drive system. The simplest form of moving screen is drawn by pulling on the leading edge across the greenhouse by hand with a nylon cord. However, this is only possible with very small screens. As a screen gets larger, it is necessary to provide a method which will move the leading edge equally across its whole width. Motor driven moving screens are pulled opened and closed either by a drive wire system (see below) or by a rack and pinion system (see page 12). Small manual screens can be driven with drive wires and a simple crank handle gearbox. Box Section and Components Drive wires are fixed to a leading edge made of lightweight steel tube or aluminium profile. These are wound on and off a 2 torque tube to open and close the screen. Ridder motor gearboxes Compact self-braking gearboxes with single or three phase motors for driving the screen system. Three rpm motor gearboxes are used for wire rope driven screens. 18 Rolling screens Rolling Screens Rolling screens have a number of uses, most usually as side or intermediate screens. The most common type is the centre rolling screen. In this the tube which the material rolls around is positioned across the middle of the screen material when fully unrolled. When the screen rolls up the bottom and top parts of the material are rolled up simultaneously. The centre rolling screen is usually motorised but can be operated with a manual winch. The bottom rolling screen is very similar to this but, as the name suggest, the roll tube is positioned at the very bottom of the material when fully unrolled. This type is usually motorised. The final type of rolling screen is the top rolling screen. In this the roll tube is positioned at the top of the screen and the screen material is rolled off the tube in a similar way to a domestic roller blind. We have split this section as follows: Drive system separated into electric tubular motors and manual winches. Roller tube and accessories separated into sub-sections for centre and bottom rolling screens and top rolling screens. 22 Rolling screens Power roller screen system The RPR100-4 Power Roller is a maintenance free drive suitable for side wall roof and twin roller screen systems in greenhouses and roller screen systems in livestock sheds. Because of its compact design and patented tilting movement, the RPR100-4 Power Roller can be fitted with the heating pipes in the side walls of a greenhouse. With the conductor that is specifically designed for the Power Roller and the tilting movement of the drive, a roller screen can be fully opened and closed. The RPR100-4 Power Roller couplings ensure a seamless connection to the many suitable types of roller tubes with diameters of 35mm, 50mm and 63mm. The RPR100-4 Power Roller has a combination of mutually tuned gear wheel and worm wheel transmissions, which results in an almost silent drive. The self-braking worm wheel transmission for the RPR100-4 ensures that the two sided output drive shafts are locked when the drive is in the rest position. The drive has a twosided drive shaft, which enables the Power Roller to be fitted in the centre of a roller screen system, which significantly lowers the torsion in the roller tube with driven screen lengths. The Power Roller has an integrated linear limit switch system with control and safety switches that have high switching precision. The maximum switch range for the limits switch system reaches 43 drive shaft revolutions. The Power Roller comes supplied with a cable tree (harness) set connected to an electric motor and a limit switch system. These should be ordered separately according to the required length.
