7 RCUTS RCUTS recaution for Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) "R " and "S T R-TSR" : The Supplemental Restraint System such as R and S T R-TSR, used along with a front seat belt, helps to reduce the risk or severity of injury to the driver and front passenger for certain types of collision. This system includes seat belt switch inputs and dual stage front air bag modules. The SRS system uses the seat belt switches to determine the front air bag deployment, and may only deploy one front air bag, depending on the severity of a collision and whether the front occupants are belted or unbelted. nformation necessary to service the system safely is included in the SR and S section of this Service anual. WR: To avoid rendering the SRS inoperative, which could increase the risk of personal injury or death in the event of a collision which would result in air bag inflation, all maintenance must be performed by an authorized SS/T dealer. mproper maintenance, including incorrect removal and installation of the SRS, can lead to personal injury caused by unintentional activation of the system. or removal of Spiral Cable and ir ag odule, see the SR section. o not use electrical test equipment on any circuit related to the SRS unless instructed to in this Service anual. SRS wiring harnesses can be identified by yellow and/or orange harnesses or harness connectors. recaution for n oard iagnosis () System of /T and ngine -7 : The C has an on board diagnostic system. t will light up the malfunction indicator lamp () to warn the driver of a malfunction causing emission deterioration. CUT: e sure to turn the ignition switch and disconnect the negative battery cable before any repair or inspection work. The open/short circuit of related switches, sensors, solenoid valves, etc. will cause the to light up. e sure to connect and lock the connectors securely after work. loose (unlocked) connector will cause the to light up due to an open circuit. (e sure the connector is free from water, grease, dirt, bent terminals, etc.) e sure to route and secure the harnesses properly after work. nterference of the harness with a bracket, etc. may cause the to light up due to a short circuit. e sure to connect rubber tubes properly after work. misconnected or disconnected rubber tube may cause the to light up due to a malfunction of the R system or fuel injection system, etc. e sure to erase the unnecessary malfunction information (repairs completed) from the TC and C before returning the vehicle to the customer. recaution for /T ssembly or TC Replacement : When replacing /T assembly or TC, refer to the pattern table below and initialize TC if necessary. 33 /T CTR SYST SC2605 RSSUR CTR S S T TC RSSUR CRCTRSTC - TR n order to obtain the most appropriate line pressure characteristic to meet the current driving state, the TC controls the pressure control solenoid current valve and thus controls the line pressure. Shift Control : The clutch pressure control solenoid is controlled by the signals from the switches and sensors. Thus, the clutch pressure is adjusted to be appropriate to the engine load state and vehicle driving state. t becomes possible to finely control the clutch hydraulic pressure with high precision and a smoother shift change characteristic is attained. SC3569 asically TC programmed for economy mode, but TC changes to several shift schedule automatically according to specified condition. SC ST Upslope ode When TC detects upslope from load of engine torque and decrease of acceleration, this mode changes shift points in high-speed side according to the upslope degree and avoids busy shift of /T. ownslope ode When TC detects downslope from increase of acceleration with accelerator full close, this mode operates moderate engine brake by changing shift points in high-speed side. ot ode Control This control lowers temperature by changing shift points when the temperature is extremely high. own Shift ermission Control n order to avoid the over speed of the engine, down shift is done only at under a constant vehicle speed. -33

ST C-U CTR When shifting from the lock-up released state to the lock-up applied state, the current output to the pressure control solenoid valve C is controlled with the TC. n this way, when shifting to the lock-up applied state, the torque converter clutch is temporarily set to the half-clutched state to reduce the shock. alf-clutched State The current output from the TC to the pressure control solenoid valve C is varied to steadily increase the pressure control solenoid valve C pressure. n this way, the lock-up apply pressure gradually rises and while the torque converter clutch piston is put into half-clutched status, the torque converter clutch piston operating pressure is increased and the coupling is completed smoothly. Slip ock-up Control n the slip region, the pressure control solenoid valve C current is controlled with the TC to put it into the half-clutched state. This absorbs the engine torque fluctuation and lock-up operates from low speed.
