1 T P0139, P0159 O2S2 omponent escription The heated oxygen sensor 2, after three way catalyst 1, monitors the oxygen level in the exhaust gas on each bank. ven if switching characteristics of the heated oxygen sensor 1 are shifted, the air-fuel ratio is controlled to stoichiometric, by the signal from the heated oxygen sensor 2. This sensor is made of ceramic zirconia. The zirconia generates voltage from approximately 1V in richer conditions to 0V in leaner conditions. 2 T onfirmation Procedure T P0139, P0159 O2S2 NOT: f T onfirmation Procedure has been previously conducted, always turn ignition switch O and wait at least 10 seconds before conducting the next test. WT ONSUT- TSTN ONTON: or better results, perform T WOR SUPPORT at a temperature of 0 to 30 (32 to 86 ). 1. Turn ignition switch ON and select T ONTOR mode with ONSUT-. 2. Start engine and warm it up to the normal operating temperature. 3. Turn ignition switch O and wait at least 10 seconds. 4. Start engine and keep the engine speed between 3,500 and 4,000 rpm for at least one minute under no load. 5. et engine idle for one minutes. 6. ake sure that OON TP/S indicates more than 70 (158 ). S174Y f not, warm up engine and go to next step when OON TP/S indication reaches to 70 (158 ). 7. Select O2S2 (B1) P0139 or O2S2 (B2) P0159 of O2S2 in T WOR SUPPORT mode with ONSUT-. 8. Start engine and following the instruction of ONSUT-. BS000VY 9. ake sure that O is displayed after touching S- RSUTS. f N is displayed, refer to -255, "iagnostic Procedure". f N NOT B NOS is displayed, perform the following. a. Turn ignition switch O and leave the vehicle in a cool place (soak the vehicle). b. Return to step 1. Overall unction heck PBB0115 Use this procedure to check the overall function of the heated oxygen sensor 2 circuit. uring this check, a T might not be confirmed. WT ST 1. Start engine and warm it up to the normal operating temperature. 2. Turn ignition switch O and wait at least 10 seconds. 3. Start engine and keep the engine speed between 3,500 and 4,000 rpm for at least one minute under no load. 4. et engine idle for one minutes. 5. Set voltmeter probes between terminal 74 [O2S2 (B1) signal] or 55 [O2S2 (B2) signal] and engine ground. BS000VZ -250

(epress and release accelerator pedal as soon as possible.) change of voltage should be more than 0.06V for 1 second during this procedure. f the voltage can be confirmed in step 6, step 7 is not necessary. 7. eep vehicle at idling for 10 minutes, then check the voltage. Terminals T Sensor Bank P P ontinuity should not exist. 4. lso check harness for short to ground and short to power. O or N O >> O TO 7. 10 omponent nspection T OXYN SNSOR 2 With ONSUT- 1. Turn ignition switch ON and select T ONTOR mode with ONSUT-. 2. Start engine and warm it up to the normal operating temperature. 3. Turn ignition switch O and wait at least 10 seconds. 4. Start engine and keep the engine speed between 3,500 and 4,000 rpm for at least one minute under no load. 5. et engine idle for one minutes. BS0031 S174Y 6. Select U NTON in TV TST mode, and select O2S2 (B1)/(B2) as the monitor item with ONSUT-. S662Y 7. heck O2S2 (B1)/(B2) at idle speed when adjusting U NTON to ±25%. PBB0796 O2S2 (B1)/(B2) should be above 0.63V at least once when the U NTON is +25%. O2S2 (B1)/(B2) should be below 0.48V at least once when the U NTON is 25%. UTON: iscard any heated oxygen sensor which has been dropped from a height of more than 0.5 m (19.7 in) onto a hard surface such as a concrete floor; use a new one. Before installing new oxygen sensor, clean exhaust system threads using Oxygen Sensor Thread leaner tool or and approved anti-seize lubricant. Without ONSUT- 1. Start engine and warm it up to the normal operating temperature. 2. Turn ignition switch O and wait at least 10 seconds. 3. Start engine and keep the engine speed between 3,500 and 4,000 rpm for at least one minute under no load. 4. et engine idle for one minutes. 5. Set voltmeter probes between terminal 74 [O2S2 (B1) signal] or 55 [O2S2 (B2) signal] and engine ground. -258

The voltage should be above 0.63V at least once during this procedure. f the voltage is above 0.63V at step 6, step 7 is not necessary. 7. eep vehicle at idling for 10 minutes, then check voltage. Or check the voltage when coasting from 80 km/h (50 P) in position (/T), 4th gear position (/T). The voltage should be below 0.48V at least once during this PBB1108 procedure. 8. f N, replace heated oxygen sensor 2. UTON: iscard any heated oxygen sensor which has been dropped from a height of more than 0.5 m (19.7 in) onto a hard surface such as a concrete floor; use a new one. Before installing new oxygen sensor, clean exhaust system threads using Oxygen Sensor Thread leaner tool or and approved anti-seize lubricant.
