17 Fuel system Jetting and Mixtures Whenever you fit a replacement carb that s a different model than your Land Rover came with, you almost always have to adjust the jetting.

Weber carburetors used on Land Rovers are generic use aftermarket versions that almost always require rejetting to work properly on a Land Rover engine.

One reason people claim better mileage figures for the Weber is because it is often too lean for the motor! If you are getting 16-20 mpg it s a sure sign the carb is way too lean.

in continuous use, the jetting has to go leaner (assuming it was right when you started). Cold dry air can use a richer mixture than warm and humid at the same altitude.

Webers usually need to be jetted a few sizes richer than they come out of the box, but it all depends on your motor s condition and where you use the truck.

2 17 Fuel system Jetting and Mixtures Whenever you fit a replacement carb that s a different model than your Land Rover came with, you almost always have to adjust the jetting. Just because a carburetor comes out of a box as for Land Rover doesn t mean it is jetted correctly for your motor! Weber carburetors used on Land Rovers are generic use aftermarket versions that almost always require rejetting to work properly on a Land Rover engine. The burned exhaust valve and melted piston here are from two different motors where a Weber 1V was fitted as a replacement carb without rejetting. One reason people claim better mileage figures for the Weber is because it is often too lean for the motor! If you are getting mpg it s a sure sign the carb is way too lean. If driven hard for extended periods of time this is what will result. BP carries a range of jets for all carbs we sell: Zenith, Rochester, and Weber. Generally, above 5,000 ft. in continuous use, the jetting has to go leaner (assuming it was right when you started). Cold dry air can use a richer mixture than warm and humid at the same altitude. Cold dry at seal level requires richer than cold and dry at 11,000 feet. Hot humid days at altitude really require leaning out! Our Rochesters come jetted for sea level, as do the new Zeniths. Webers usually need to be jetted a few sizes richer than they come out of the box, but it all depends on your motor s condition and where you use the truck. Many owners have a few jet sizes to play with: a high altitude jet for the mountains, a richer one for the deserts, and their usual. Call or us for jet sizing recommendations, but make sure you know the size of the jet that s in there now. 6 Camping Security 21 Security When you are away from your Land Rover you do not need to spend your time worrying about vehicle security. Locks on your fuel tank and your hood can go a long way towards providing peace of mind. A battery isolator switch under a locked hood just might save your Land rover from being taken for a joy ride.
