1 - Ground fault Datasheet protection device Features Blue housing 1-3 poles plus neutral 7-100mA Preciese, temperature independent operation Choise of time delays, terminals and actuator colours Application Under strained or heavy use, a motor and/or another load-generating component within the equipment will draw additional current from the power source; when this happens, the equipment s wires or components will overheat and may ultimately burn up. In addition to protecting the equipment, the entire electrical system including the control switches, wires, and power source must be protected from faults. A circuit protection device should be employed at any point where a conductor size changes. Many electronic circuits and components like transformers have a lower overload withstand threshold level than conductors such as wires and cables. These components require circuit protection devices featuring very fast overload sensing and opening capabilities. Description The PDR is an equipment ground fault protection device that combines hydraulic/magnetic circuit breaker and overload and short circuit protection and ground fault protection. This breaker senses and guards against faults to ground using a state of the art integrated circuit. This technology detects faults and when a fault occurs, the breaker trips and an LED illuminates. The LED gives a clear indication that the trip occurred as a result of leakage. This protection helps prevent serious equipment damage and fire. All PDR equipment leakeage circuit breakers will trip on overload or leakage to ground, even when actuator is forcibly held in the ON position. Environmental characteristics Operating temperature -10 C C Vibration, functional IEC 61373, Section 8, Table 1, Category 1, Class B, Body Mounted: Random vibration test for 30 minutes in each of the 3 mutually perpendicular axes. Total vibration time of 90 minutes. During the test the circuit breakers were subjected to tripping time measurements at 200% of rated current. MIL-STD-202G Method 204C: Withstands 0,060 inches excursion from 10-55Hz, and 10Gs Hz, at rated current. Instantaneous and ultrashort curves 90% of rated current. Shock NF F , Par : The circuit breakers were monitored for discontinuities (open and closed position) and powered at 100% of their rated current. The circuit breakers were subjected to a total of 18 shock pulses of 1/2 sine wave with a nominal time duration of 18 msec. and a peak acceleration of 30g s, 3 pulses in each direction of the 3 mutually perpendicular axes. IEC 61373, Par. 10, Table 3, Category 1, Classes A & B, Body Mounted: The circuit breakers were monitored for discontinuities (open and closed position), powered at 100% of their rated current and subjected to a total of 18 shock pulses of 1/2 sine wave with a nominal duration of 30msec and magnitude of 3g. (vertical and transverse) or 5g. (longitudinal), 3 pulses in each direction of the 3 mutually perpendicular axes. MIL-STD-202G: Withstands 100Gs, 6ms, sawtooth while carrying rated current. Instantaneous and ultra-short curves 90% of rated current. 3

4 Technical specifications Environmental characteristics Salt spray IEC , Severity Level 3: four (4) Salt Spray periods of two (2) hours each, at a temperature between +15 C, and +35 C and a 5% salt solution. Each 2-Hour Salt Spray period was followed by a Hour period in the humidity chamber at +40 C and 93% R.H. At the completion of he Fourth Salt Spray/ Humidity Period the Circuit Breakers were immediately subjected to a storage drying period of three (3) Days at +23 C and 45% - 50% R.H. The total test time for the entire Salt Mist Test was seven (7) days. Thermal shock MIL Method 107D, Condition A: Five cycles@ -55 ºC ºC...+85ºC ºC Damp heat IEC , Test Method Db, Variant 1, with the following details: Test stated at ambient temperature and uncontrolled humidity. The following 24-hour temperature humidity cycle: Temperature was raised to +55 C and the relative humidity to 95% over a period of 3 hours. The conditions of a 55 C and 95% RH were maintained for 9 hours. The conditions were reduced from +55 C and 95% RH to +25 C and 95% R.H. over a period of 1.5 hours. The conditions of +25 C and 95% RH were maintained for 10.5 hours. The above steps were repeated for six (6) cycles, 144 hours operating. Fire and smoke NF F /102: Material of the circuit breakers is tested regarding the fire and smoke behaviour for material selection and application for electrical equipment. Classification I0/F0 (RATP test report number ). Response time at different temperatures Protection level NF F , paragraph /11.3.4/11.3.5: Response times comply with the following test method: Measure and record time delay trip values at 1.25, 3, 5 and 10 x In at 22 C after operating at 1.05 x Inom for 1 hour. Measure and record time delay tip values at 1.25, 3, 5 and 10 x In at -25 C after temperature stabilisation. Measure and record time delay tip values at 1.25, 3, 5 and 10 x In at 70 C after temperature stabilisation and operation at 0.86 In for 1 hour. Measure and record time delay trip values at 3 and 5 x In, 5 times at 22 C with 5 min between readings IP40 when mounted in a panel Table of time delay values NOTES: Delay curves 22, 24, 26: Breakers to hold 100% and must trip at 125% of rated current and greater within the time limit shown in this curve. Delay curves 20: Breakers to hold 100% and must trip at 150% of rated current and greater within the time limit shown in this curve. All curves: Curve data shown represents breaker response at ambient temperature of 25 C (77 F) with no preloading. Breakers are mounted in standard wall-mount position. On 50A and less current ratings, the minimum inrush pulse tolerance handling capability is 12 times the rated current on standard delays and 25 times the rated current on high inrush delays. These values are based on a 60Hz 1/2 cycle, 8,33 ms pulse. High inrush delays should be specified for applications with high initial surge currents of short duration such as switching power supplies, highly capacitive loads and transformer loads. 4
